Cool, I'll give it another test run.. My playgroup strong armed me out of testing it after a weekend where no one really played it.
I appreciate when people give feedback about fringe cards that weren't unanimously received, or were low on the radar. Found a few nuggets from feedback like that (Insult//Injury comes to mind)
This card is so legit. I played it in a Moat-Walker control shell with an artifact theme and it was stupid strong. If I'm not countering something, I'm making robots to protect walkers or upgrading robots to kill people. When you have enough mana, the robots don't die and just get upgraded after blocks are declared. There was Academy synergy, Karn synergy, Tezz Synergy, Angel of Invention Synergy, Moat Synergy. Against opposing control decks, you can actually make threats as the turns are typically passed back and forth with counter magic up. The deck was absurd and I didn't drop a single game.
Here are the changes I would make if I were to play it in the future again:
-1 Plains +Island
-1 Looter +1 Wall of Omens
They left out the part where Yawgmoth is resurrected, but has been cleansed as Yawgmoth the Redeemed, and now must awaken Chromium so that Karn can fuse with him and create what can only be known as : the ultimate taco.
If anything it is more playable in unpowered. I don't see what Moxen and Lotus make of a difference for a card like this?
Aha, my mistake. When I first read the card and saw it had to do with sacrificing certain artifacts to make other certain artifacts, my mind automatically assumed it would be better the more cheap artifacts you had. RTFC I guess. Will try to test it.

My group does not want me to add this card - is there a general community consensus that it's great? The concern is obviously that it is extremely slow to accomplish much... Is it mostly a slow Servo machine, or are players upgrading to 4/4s with success?
The thing you have to remember is that it costs 1 mana to play! Is it the best token produceder around? No, but it only cost one mana to cast!
And the mix of abilities means it does a lot more in practice then just pumping out 1/1's . It protects them from control magic effects, it makes a flying army in a stalemate, it stops lifelink,...
Wow, I'm glad to read how well this card has been playing for folks. I irrationally love the thing but have found it hard to justify a slot. I will give it a run with the new set out.
I may need to bring Whirler Rogue back into the fold...
I think I’m finally going to add Retrofitter Foundry...
My playgroup insists that they don’t want to play this card, but it appears to be the “best” card I’m not currently running according to Cube community sentiment. We don’t have a dedicated artifact deck (even though we have most of the tools to support it) simply because most of the genetically good artifacts get taken by other decks, so it’s tough to have the density needed for this deck at 720. Still, I’m hoping Retrofitter Foundry proves to be generally good in Control, maybe Stax, and with the random thopter synergies.
I can't explain how good this card has been for us. Its such a small investment to run for a card that ensures getting flooded is OK. It plays great with any kind of token-y archetypes (stax, aristocrats, anthem-beatdown) and it plays great with any kind of artifact deck shenanigans whatsoever (cheap for tinker, makes many artifacts if you need to go wide with artifact count, etc). Finally, it can even make fliers when the ground is stalled or for something like a moat/quake deck (serra has fun with this card). And it is great at buying time in slower decks as well - the ability to blank removal on your chump blocker by turning it into an untapped token in response, or to chump something and then do the same to not even be down a chump blocker, is really quite efficient.
I've since changed my mind on this one. I probably wouldn't run this without cards like Pia and Kiran or Whirler Rogue and the synergies they create with this. Those synergies are the extra little push that take this card from a near-miss to making the cut. Should these cards get cut I'd probably take this out until we got thopter/servo making replacements.
Thoughts about this card in 2024? It has been requested in my group to be added.
Great artifacts matters payoff that is one of the best mana sinks / enablers for Urza / Tolarian Academy, powers up your Karnstructs, and can be insane with other things that generate thopters like Whirler Rogue / PK Nalaar. I consider it a staple for an artifacts matters package, just right beneath things like Tinker / Academy / Urza's Saga / Urza.
Has been great since inclusion for me. Pooping out servos with spare mana is decent and being able to turn random thopters into 4/4s is really great.
Has all the usuall artifact synergy of being a cheap artifact plus it just keeps making more.
Left alone for long enough it can generate a ton of value. I think it needs anough source of thopters to really go crazy, but I have definitly won long grind games off the back of making endless flying threats.
It's a solid managing for control decks as in the late game if you don't need your interaction counter you can just make servo for 2 or even just pay the 6 for a thopter that can chip in after you untap

We're in the same boat. And it keeps getting better! It got a new friend in Dovin, Grand Arbiter during our RNA update.

Staple. THE payoff for academy/cradle that also got a lot better when urzas saga was printed.
Glad I ignored my playgroup and kept testing it.
