Ugh! I actively was hoping this card would be mediocre because I hate the art and it would let me ignore this set entirely. Hopefully, it won't be too much $$$ because it's only eternal legal and I can't see it breaking into Legacy.
How's this playing for folks? Card is super strong in its appearances so far. Just uncanny hard to remove through its [+2], or beat at all, as an uncheatable six mana win-con should be. It's good ahead or behind thanks to the combination of abilities on its [+2] and [-2].
It's a shame Rowan Kenrith isn't great on her own, since the two are great in tandem, and Will would be even more bonkers if he potentially also tutored up another win-con on ETB.
It's been very strong for us. Against creature decks it can be a crushing card to resolve. Will has caused a few insta-scoops for me in recent memory.
I put together a really fun 3-0 superfriends control list recently with Will Kenrith, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, and Chandra, Flamecaller at the top of the curve. I played against an aggro deck, a grindy midrange deck, and a reanimator combo deck. In each case Will was the most effective walker and his +2 often times felt like a board wipe.
Blue for me is a very spells heavy control theme with a storm sub-theme.
I think both these cards are great with Will being basically a bigger version of Baral.
However, I only have space for one. Which one would you include?
I think they are both better than Thing in the Ice, especially in storm.
Decided to try Will as a big walker for blue (3 mana OG Jace is getting benched for a while.
Is he a trap if your not running a dedicated storm deck? He doesn't win the game on his own but pseudo-removal of the opponents 2 biggest creatures and ticking up seems like a great way to stabilise. Draw 2 and cost reduction seems like a solid way to turn the corner.

I liked Will at that time I played it and didn't run it with Storm. There's a lot of crazy things you can do with that -2 ability that don't involve storm, Upheaval was a big one, but sometimes you can just chain a bunch of big blue spells like Mystic Confluence / Fact or Fiction / Occult Epiphany / etc.

That's for the feedback. It's good to know the -2 is just a solid value play.
What got him cut in the end? Just swap him out for another big control spell?

Just competition in general. Will didn't really contribute to anything specific and was a bit clunky as things got more aggressive and there were more options for planeswalker removal.
Same experience here. Card was good, but didn’t contribute to any archetype in particular or have interesting synergy. Started out strong, then I had a few mediocre experiences in a row. He was on the on deck binder for a while but eventually was drowned out by competition.
Expensive hardcastable cards dropped in power as things got more efficient. There was already plenty of competition that did more interesting things at the top end.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that Will not being an actual win condition was a big issue for him at 6 mana. A 6-cmc creature / planeswalker should be able to close out the game by themselves these days, and Will only just durdles around.
