This new mechanic makes evaluating cards very difficult. I wanted to start a place where people can start keeping track of how often they hit ascend in their cube games. I started keeping track a little bit last night and was surprised how often there were 10 or more permanents each game.
In last nights cube draft 2 decks hit ascend every single game except when they played against aggro and even then some still managed.
I would say that 10 permanents was hit at some point in each persons deck around 75% of games.
Even my aggro deck hit ascend fairly regularly with cards like goblin rabblemaster and blade splicer putting multiple permanents onto the field.
I am going to be reporting some testing data over the next few days on how often i hit ascend, in what kind of decks, and by what turn 10 permanents is hit. hopefully this can be a place where others can also report and we can better assess a few of these cards.
I was thinking about this as well. 10 permanents is pretty achievable for most decks, especially if you have it in hand and are aiming to get to it but I feel like it will make some of my drafters play worse by over extending to get it online or holding it too long because they want ascend (slightly like with cyclonic rift, although I love that card)
I think the main problem is a lot of the spells aren't very good in their non-ascended mode, they just feel over costed for the effect
unfortunately the RIX update on XMage has made cubing pretty much unplayable and i havent been able to collect any data yet. hopefully the servers will get figured out soon.
