Dauthi Horror can provide the reach that black aggro decks need. He's also beastly with equipment. However, many people are no longer running this card, but still choose to run its white brother Soltari Trooper. Has Dauthi Horror just been outclassed by other black aggro 2 drops like Glint-Sleeve Siphoner and Asylum Visitor in the recent years where his presence is not needed anymore?
Dauthi Horror isn't bad, but I think you're right about him being outclassed. We've had a recent influx of really solid black 2-drops for cube. Unfortunately, Dauthi Horror had to go to make room for them in smaller and mid-sized lists. He'd be one of the first aggro critters riding the bench to go back in if I were to go up in size, though.
Dauthi Horror is a fine aggro beater, but black aggro functions a bit differently. It's centered around disruption, recursion and card advantage. Whereas white is focused around power, anthems and equipment; which is why the white version of basically the card is more popular. I don't run either anymore (and didn't even at 540) but I think Trooper > Horror just because of the different ways the colors apply pressure.
I love all the shadow guys but they've been outclassed over the years. I'd likely make room for Dauthi Horror at 540. Even at 540, that's pushing it, and below that size there is no space.
I cut him at the AER update, and I may have been something of a holdout. Good card, for certain, but definitely outclassed by other cards and how the black aggro decks work. If I had a larger cube (630 or 720), I'd probably still run the Horror.
Very strange to me that a card that basically plays as a 2/1 unblockable (certainly better evasion than simply flying) is viewed as outclassed. Especially when you consider all the free equipment pounding this thing unleashes on a helpless opponent.

For us, the question answers itself. An unblcokable 2-power creature for 1B was perfect for my 720 Cube when I built it in 2010, but it isn’t even close in 2020. In the new set we even got a 2/1 flyer for 1B that can block and has an upside ability that will happen once in a blue moon. No one is talking about Cubing that card.
I remember when our group realized that all the shadow guys were outdated which caused a pretty big shift in our Cube design. I want to say that was something like 4 years ago.
