Ruin Raider

Raid - At the beginning of your end step, if you attacked with a creature this turn, reveal the top card of your library and put it into your hand. You lose life equal to that card's converted mana cost.

Depending on the body, being able to through away deathtouch snake tokens or whatever chaff you have for cards seems like big game!
I like how it immediately enables my t2 play to draw me a card. The P/T is pretty important here as I don't think I would play this as like a 2/1 or whatever, but if it's reasonable then this is something Im definitely interested in.
On the other end, what is the threshold before I start valuing lifelinkers higher than usual for cube spots? There are enough Confidants and Asylum Visitors now that I could see the black aggro decks maybe getting to a boiling point of self-hurt cards.

I've already passed that point, and added Whip of Erebos. Could still use another good source of lifegain in black, honestly.
I definitely noticed this late last night , seems okay. It's very reminiscent of Sin Prodder, but that at least has Menace. Not sure if I need this, needs to be at least a 3/2.
Depending on P/T, this could be better than prodder, since you are potentially getting a card immediately. I mean it's not like Prodder is the benchmark for good/great cards, but I dont think it's a question that a reasonably costed P/T makes this much better than prodder.
Prodder having menace is a big deal for aggressive decks, this literally has zero evasion. If this ends up being a 2/2, it's not going to be much better than Phyrexian Rager.
It reminds me more of Phyrexian Arena on a stick vs Phyrexian Rager (Magus of the Arena...wait...), since the aggressive black decks have so many creatures that can attack and recur themselves somehow now. I agree that as a 2/2 it's a bit more underwhelming, but drawing cards for what you want to be doing on T3 anyways seems sweet. There's a lot of value in turning you CA engine on immediately vs waiting that turn to do anything with your mana investment.
Raid is a really cool keyword. Looking forward to seeing what they're going to do with it.
FWIW Raid was already around in Khans block. You may already know this and I may be misconstruing what you're saying, but we got guys like Bloodsoaked Champion around already showing us what's possible.
There's really no point discussing this till we know the p/t. It's clearly an aggro card, so its stats are vitally important. 3 power? It's probably testable. Less than 3? Not remotely close.

You are absolutely correct, I had indeed forgotten about that. Seems that the keyword wasn't printed on a cube level card before, let's hope they'll make that happen this time around

Of course we do play Bloodsoaked Champion, which is an awesome cube card. When I made the comment I thought Raid included the 'get a card for life' effect, and since I don't remember having seen that before I thought it was new.
My playgroup's pick order and feedback makes me want to double-down on black aggro and move far away from green aggro, so I think Ruin Raider stands a pretty good chance of making it in. Black 3s are actually pretty competitive these days though...I wonder if I like this more than Grim Haruspex?
Think this is worth testing. I cooled a bit on it after my initial reaction, but 3/2 stats are just in that right spot to perk me back up to it.
It potentially triggering on the turn you play it , and having reasonable agressive stats is a pretty big game. Black has some creatures that don't mind suiciding later in the game, making this more reliable to trigger.
Probably won't want to play this outside of a very aggressive deck, which makes the effect a bit less interesting than something like a dark confidant.
Me and my playgroup just proxied up this, Carnage Tyrant, Ripjaw Raptor and Hostage Taker to test out. This was the only one that actually showed up in the draft, and it was absolutely stellar. I played W/U Tempo that splashed black for this card alone because I really wanted to try it out, and it won 2 games on its own! It is the second best Bob variant I have played to date, only behind the Confidant himself. It required no real hoops to jump through, and could have definitely worked in midrange too.
I HIGHLY recommend this card for all to test. It was superb tonight.

Being able to draw a card on the turn you play it is pretty big game over something like phyrexian arena.
What I'm not sure is how often You'll be able to attack that turn to trigger it.

I can see curving out in an aggro deck with this thing being great.

Evaluating this card without the p/t is impossible though. Hoping for 3/2.
