A 4/1 for 2R is pretty unheard of. While it dies to everything, this thing HAS to be blocked / killed to prevent some major damage. There's a lot of ways to clear the path for this, but not sure if it can crack 540 for me at the moment.
Against a creature-light board, there will be windows where a 4-power creature with a built-in Relentless Assault can just straight win the game. But if the opponent has even a single blocker, it can be blanked pretty hard. I think it misses the cut for me, but it certainly has an absurd ceiling for a 2R costed creature.
You don't even really need to clear the path with this--trade it with something, then untap your board and swing back again. Seems like a cool card, definitely worth testing.
I really love the design here and the card is a genuine threat. I think this represents the closest thing to a 'must block' you can reasonably run in a cube, not just to avoid a future additional attack step but also the fact that he hits super hard on his own.
I think the red mythics in the set both have a high ceiling and low floor, which seems to fit red. At least this guy's floor is just a 4/1 for 3 mana. I might test this card.
I don't like it. He's super fragile and without haste your opponent has a turn to prepare for the double attack. As well, he's not even part of the second attack AND he won't be untapping the next turn giving your opponent two more turns to deal with him. I don't think he's good enough for aggro and I think that leaves him without a home.
This card is hilarious in pure aggro and it can even Kiki/Twin combo. I'll be giving it a test run.
Wow did not even realize this. Good find.
It works with twin until they have an Elvish Archers to block with.
Not how that works:
Kiki-jiki clones this, the clone attacks, the attack trigger will untap all (including kiki-jiki), at next combat, make another clone.
Splinter twin on this, tap and make clone, clone attack, etc.
EDIT: Oh wait I see what you mean. The first striker will win if this ends up being your only attacker.
I think there is some confusion as to the Exert ability. Just to be clear, you exert as you attack, which then untaps your board and triggers a second attack phase after the current one. It doesn't matter if the creature itself survives or deals damage, the 2nd attack phase will still occur.
Makes this a much better card than if it had to connect.

Kiki works just better because you can just attack with the original and the copy and then make two more copies since you get two untap triggers and two additional Combat Steps each time (if I know my rules correctly).
Your right. You can just straight up go infinite. I was thinking the original Celebrant would have summoning sickness and you could only attack with one token infinitely.
Glad kiki cubers got another combo piece and an on color one at that. I'm curious to hear how he does in non-kiki decks. Let the board know how testing goes.
Err, I don't see the difference between blocking Kiki and Twin.
Correct me if I'm wrong....
Kiki: Tap Kiki to make copy, attack with both. Kiki untaps to make another copy, creates loop.
Twin: Tap original to make copy, copy swings and untaps original.
The only difference is you have an extra combat celebrant with kiki-jiki since you get 2 untap triggers if you decide to attack with both. They both go infinite either way.
Oh, I think I get it now. You can go "infinite" with attack steps but you won't be necessarily go infinite wide / damage if they keep picking off a Combat Celebrant every combat step.
Yeah if you only have Kiki and a summoning sick Celebrant and you're looking at an indestructible/pro red 6/6, then it's not doing much, but there are going to be a number of boards where it's GG.
Lol at the Kiki/Twin interaction that I never would have seen. I think that puts it over the top, otherwise I wouldn't have considered it. While not at instant speed and no tap, this is a lot less embarrassing to draw without the combo.
Fantastic card. While this card does have a bit of the high-ceiling, low-floor swingy nature of red, the floor is remarkably tolerable. Regathan Firecat stats are perfect for punishing the creature that blocks this and this guy works well whether your deck goes big or wide. Being an attack trigger and not requiring combat damage to a player takes this from okay to a near-definite inclusion for me. Bonus points for being a human.
Count me in as another player who wouldn't have noticed the Twin/Kiki combo this card enables. I thought it was cute before that realization but now I absolutely love it.

I used to write for MTGS, including Cranial Insertion and cube articles. Good on you if you can find those after the upgrade.
Without the Kiki interaction I would have to test.. so hard to evaluate.
With the Kiki interaction this is my favourite card in the set so far!
Card that straddles multiple archetypes and unique gameplay!
