When Minotaur Explorer enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you discard a card at random.

Was searching for red two-drops with power more than 2 and I stumbled upon this. Is the random discard too much of a drawback even for the 3/3 body on turn two?
I'm currently not even running Gore-House Chainwalker or the 1/2 that gets +2/+0 on attack (forgot name). Random discard is an extremely steep drawback, don't know how big my cube would have to be to even consider this.
I also like all the RR creatures (Ash Zealot / Grenzo / Kargan Dragonlord) much more than Minotaur, too
Interesting find, but having to discard a card random is way too much of a discard to basically get +0/+1 over Borderland Marauder, Thriving Grubs, and Gore-House Chainwalker. The influx of 3/2s for 1R with minimal drawbacks (at least as far as aggro decks are concerned) is relatively recent, though. Was there ever a time when this was on the radar for cube?

The 3rd point of toughness is sweet, but not better enough than all the 3/2 variants to be worth losing a card. Especially not at random. Even in comparison to Pale Rider of Trostad this Minotaur is pretty bad, and not many cubes run the Rider either. And black is more shallow on playable 2-drops than red is, IMO. Same goes for Wretched Anurid. I'd rather lose a few life than lose a card at random, and it doesn't make it either. I think losing a card is simply too steep.
I mean, Heir of Falkenrath is solid, but the discard is optional, it's not random, and it's a 3-power threat with flying. That's the kind of discard related "drawback" that can actually be worthwhile.
I was looking at this a few years ago, but the card - like many other red cards - is killed by the inclusion of the words "at random". That way, it can't even perform as a cheap discard outlet for reanimator decks.
I would have played it without the random discard back then. Right now, I wouldn't even play that version, since red got both better 2-drops and better discard outlets in the last few years.

Cool card, but I don't think it can hack it.
