I think all the cards they came up with during the five minutes tiny leaders was popular are finally seeing print, and we are reaping all the benefits.
When I look at all those cheap legendary creatures in this set, I get the impression that Wizards is trying to boost/balance their rather top-heavy legendary cube.

AFAIK Legendary Cube has been abandoned (or at least not coming back in the near future) due to feedback for people not liking it.
I feel like when she attacks, the monkey jumps off her shoulder to attack separately. Then at the end of the turn it just returns to its perch on her shoulder. Then when she dies, the monkey dies with her because it can't go on living without her.
Things start to get a little weird when you add Goblin Bombardment, though.

Right but if you block the monkey it dies like any other 2/1.
love pirates, monkeys, and this card. and there are at least a few cuttable red 2's, so this card makes it in at minimum because it's interesting and has minimal competition. the more i think about it though, some of the shine has come off. lots of people have mentioned synergies, can you list some of them to help me back on the hype train?
monkey exiles at end of combat, so no clamp shenanigans
menace does make it a better sword carrier, but most creatures can carry a sword decently
monkey enters attacking, can it get the battlecry buff from hero of oxid ridge and does it trigger hellrider? judge?
2 attacking bodies swing better into a single wall (wall of roots, caryatid, steve, courser). my red aggro decks always seem to run into dumb green creatures with fat butts, but i guess getting through for 1 damage is better than 0.
purphuros and bombardment synergies as others mentioned
first strike and menace are strong when combined, but less useful after a couple turns if she's only swinging for 1.
again, still like the card, just looking for other examples of synergies. i really wanted to clamp the monkey.

The primary complaint was that there weren't enough legendary monkey tokens ...that's fixed now.
Flavor question: is this monkey indestructible? Is it a ghost? Or does she keep on replacing her dead monkeys and names them all Ragavan?
No, it just never really "dies". The opponent can deal with it, but it just shows back up again later. I imagine it coming out to harass the opponent/creature and then scampering off back below deck on the pirate ship or whatever until called upon again.
But if you want to imagine the monkey as indestructible, that sounds like more fun.
So what happens in a hypothetical situation when a bear blocks the monkey in combat? Does his fatal swipe just smack it below deck? Technically if game action = canon then it dying in combat means it's dying (hello, blood artist) and it only exiles at the end of combat. (Goodbye, blood artist.) If the monkey was indestructible it would be indestructible, but it dies like anything else--but still comes back. I think the most fun thing is imagining Kari Zev to be a lonely pirate and just making pretend each new Ragavan is the same one or an ancestor, I dunno, I like how crazy that makes her. Her local monkey vendor is living the high life.
(Look, I know this is a crazy thing to get into, but when a card is this exciting and there's no debating it's inclusion, you gotta debate *something* )

My thoughts are similar. But I was more thinking like Princess Bride and the Dread Pirate Roberts. In this case it is the Dread Monkey Ragavan, and after each looting adventure (each combat turn) the actual monkey retires(exiles) giving his job over to his understudy who takes on the name Ragavan in order to perpetuate fear in the hearts of the enemy. When he dies the understudy just takes the open position.

It had to be the Dread Monkey Ragavan, because nobody's afraid of the Dread Monkey George.
In cube? Probably, but young pyromancer is certainly better across the board in constructed.

Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
I hope the point about tiny leaders is right, I like legendary creatures and the lower costs are a fun place to see then for a change.
I assume her monkey will get a token?

I used to write cube articles on StarCityGames, now for GatheringMagic and podcast about cube (w/Antknee42.)
Pictures of the token are already floating around, but I think this thing needs its own action figure

Maybe Kari Zev has a close connection to the animal shelters on Kaladesh and participates in their monkey adoption program.

Carrion Feeder has always been a sleeper IMO. Dude just gets HUGE for a one drop. One of the more/most underrated cube cards.
