Wow, I totally theory crafted this card in my head yesterday, no joke.
I like this card and may find room just to test it. Not sure if it will last, but I do believe that this is better than OG Will since being a creature makes it much more versatile.
I like it a lot, I always wanted to play Yawgmoth's Will but its out of my price range.
It being a creature means it is a bit easier to recur the effect in-colour as well for some extra value. The last two Maguses (Magi?) have been solid, I hope they keep it up.
Just wish it wasn't a 3 drop... Maybe a 5 drop that did it etb or sacced to do it for B.
EDIT: Just realised it is exile not sac, worse but still good.
Good card for sure. May test it out, but it may suffer the same fate as Magus of the Wheel (good but not great; beaten out by competition, etc.) but I don't even play Will anymore, and Will is probably just better than the Magus because it's faster and more reliable.
I like will, but this just doesn't seem that good, 4bb for will seems bad, and a 3/3 for three is useless when evaluating its strength. Magus of the will had sacrifice going for it at least, this is really hard to abuse in comparison(mimic vat)
I think this is better than Will for cube since Magus is more pro-active and doesn't sit in your hand doing nothing until mid-late game. This also has the benefit of being activated at instant speed, which is nice with removal. Imagine a scenario where your opponent plays Inferno Titan, targeting Magus. In response, I can cast Snuff Out from my hand targeting Titan, activate Magus, re-cast Snuff Out (for free!) taking out another one of their creatures. Next turn, Necromancy their Inferno Titan.
Looking over my cube, I still have 2-3 loose spots in black, so I definitely have room to test this card. Very happy about this because Yawgmoth's Will is one of my favorite cards and I wanted it to work in cube but it always fell short.
Being a creature gives it some interactions, but being exiled means the effect isn't repeatable (main difference over Magus of the Wheel) and the activation cost isn't cheaper than the normal rate for that effect. So ultimately it's just slower and more vulnerable since the opponent can see it coming from a mile away sans haste. Aaand black's 3 CMC slot for creatures is already fairly stacked.
I want to try it out because it's sweet and adds variety but it may come up just a tad short.
Its 2b to play and 2b to activate, not 2bb. I'd be willing to give this a try, seems useful in the ending turns of an aggro deck, being able to replay 1-2 burn spells after combat to end the game. Mana flood does happen and this card mitigates the impact of that by giving you options.

Yawgmoth's Will also exiles itself after it resolves, so it's not like there's any downside to the ability in comparison to the OG Will.
The main abusability of creatures is from recurring right? And he exiles, so no recurring. And you can't do burn post combat because why not just play a creature that can actually attack during combat? Spells stapled to creatures is usually better, this is actually worse.
So much yes, I have always wanted to run will bit don't support Storm so never had a reason too. Now he has a relevant body and fits perfectly at the top end of a Mardu aggro shell.

Will is an effect that has severe diminishing returns, it's not exactly something you can recur all the time for profit.
Yawgmoth's Will is definitely a better top deck, but it's a card you typically don't want to see early. This lets you play it early to do other things, like pick up a sword or sac it as Recurring Nightmare fodder. Being black, it's easy to let it die early and recur it later where his ability will be more useful.
Agreed with those who like this better than Will, even if slower. I can find room to try this out for a while.

I really wish the activation would've been 1B, to mirror the activation benefit we got on Magus of the Wheel. It would've meant so much more with this particular effect too.

Totally agree. I think this feels a bit too clunky to compete with black's STELLAR 3 drops.
1B activation would make this Snapcaster Mage on steroids: play ALL the cards! The cheaper activation would have benefited this more than Magus of the Wheel, but unfortunately we don't live in that world.
That being said, instant speed Yawg Will is unprecedented, the closest cube analogue would be Snapcaster Mage. Snapcaster was already the closest analogue to Yawgmoth's Will, but now the effect is even closer since Magus can be activated at any time.
I always thought of Yawgmoth's Will as a bigger Snapcaster Mage minus flash. For one more mana, you get to play not only any card, but any amount of cards. It's especially strong with fetchlands / Strip Mine variants and cards with alternative costs like Snuff Out / Dismemeber / Fireblast. One of my favorite sequencers with Yawgmoth's Will was to float mana, sac 2 mountains to Fireblast, cast Will to replay a mountain and then sac that + another mountain to replay Fireblast.
A lot of people look at Will as purely a storm combo card, but it's just a great value card in general. I don't think this pushes any staples out of the cube, but this is a very powerful utility 3-drop that's probably one of the better options outside of the usual staples.
Yawgmoth's Will loses a LOT of its potency when the opponent knows it's coming. Playing around spent removal and discard spells isn't something the opponent usually prepares for, but it's worth mentioning that this effect in particular loses a ton of value when it's telegraphed.

Agreed, but I think it's a fair tradeoff for being able to get its hands dirty as a creature. I found Yawgmoth's Will to be most useful in a heavy burn deck since burn always has a target regardless of game state. Magus being a creature will be able to shine since he can go for the dome himself before going off with Will.
I like how I can topdeck him after a sweeper, use it to crew Fleetwheel Cruiser / Smuggler's Copter to swing right away, untap next turn and activate Will to replay all my burn spells for lethal.
Anyways, I feel like Magus of the (Insert Sorcery Here) will eventually be a complete cycle. So far we have Wheel / Will. It'd be safe to say that every Magus will represent an iconic 3-cmc sorcery, but that would be hard to come by in white / green. Blue has Tinker / Timetwister / Show and Tell. Tinker is probably too broken, Timetwister is too similar to Wheel of Fortune, and Magus of the Show and Tell would just sound weird.
Right now my predictions are
WHITE:
- Magus of the Cataclysm: This has a nice ring to it, but I can't imagine they'd print it nuking lands (which would also disqualify Magus of the Armageddon / Catastrophe). This is also very similar to Cataclysmic Gearhulk...
- Magus of the Balance:Probably too OP.
- Magus of the Wrath: Wrath of God is probably White's most iconic sorcery and Magus of the Wrath is a fairly cool name that makes sense....
BLUE:
- Magus of the Spiral: Time Spiral is on the reserved list so this would be an interesting way to pay homage to it. Magus of the Jar / Magus of the Wheel already existing is a knock against it, but it's still a possibility.
GREEN:
Magus of the Hurricane: Green really doesn't have a lot of sorceries and Magus of the Hurricane sounds pretty badass.
Magus of the Order: Natural Order is probably green's most iconic sorcery, I'd imagine this would be worth a pretty penny if it ever saw print.
Being a 3/3 vanilla until you have at least 5-6 mana available, invest 3 mana more and have a loaded graveyard, isn't great. Nessian Courser is not a playable card. It seems like a narrow card that won't be worth it since it's just a 3/3 a lot of the time.
It also fails the terminate test when it matters the most. The Magus will most likely be best in burn or storm. In both of these matchups your opponent is likely to have removal in their hand, since your deck is creature-light. If this card gets shut down a large amount of the time the ability would shine, then it's just not worth it.
As a disclaimer, I have never played with Yawgmoth's Will, so I'm just guessing.
I think it's pretty good. Yaggy Will is a super strong efect, but as earlier mentioned, the fact that this guy has to hit the field first is a bit obvious in execution.
Still, the activation cost being 3, makes it like running a poor man's yawgmoth.
Anyways, I feel like Magus of the (Insert Sorcery Here) will eventually be a complete cycle.
Seems like a relatively safe bet, since we already have the Artifact, Enchantment, and Land cycles. That said, while Magus of the Order is a card I'd love to see but don't expect, the white and blue ones are really rough. Magus of the Cataclysm is probably the best bet, but ugh, what a terrible name. And blue's options are all either terrible or OP.
But I still love all of the Magi as they're super fun callouts to old cards I love.

It's not uncommon to cast Yawgmoth's Will when you're only 3-4 mana since Will is a scaleable effect that always has the same upfront costs. I've often done this when I needed to replay a fetchland and / or cast a cheap removal spell. This desperation move is less attractive on Magus since you're paying double the mana, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, especially when you need that 4th land drop.
I'm okay with my opponent nuking my Magus if it means they don't have an answer for my turn 4 Hellrider, which this card really goes well with.
Magus of the Cataclysm is probably the best bet, but ugh, what a terrible name.
Magus of the Spiral would just be a retread of a wheel effect. All the Magi in their respective colors showcase very different yet still-iconic effects in that color. Blue can still get Time Warp, Upheaval or Bribery along with lower-order stuff like Polymorph and Braingeyser.
Green would be the most interesting to see. There's Eureka if they're feeling bold. It's got a couple of modern cards that have achieved iconic status like Scapeshift and Genesis Wave. Even Tooth and Nail could be fit in, as long as the magus is not another overpriced ramp spell
