Hey guys! wondering if anybody has ever tested jaya. I dont know anything about how this card played in limited and I've always been interested in it. Could it find a spot in an unpowered cube?
Let me know if you have ever tested her out in lower powered cubes or if you have any info on how she plays in limited/cube environments.
It's a really cool discard outlet, and a nice form of permanent reach. But in that role, the 2/2 body makes her a bit fragile (for decks that need a reach engine) and the 1RR cost is undesirable (for decks that want a repeatable discard outlet). She's really good against blue though, since removal in that matchup is light for them, and she can randomly be great in the same way that protections can randomly make a creature great in certain matchups. Far more flexible than something like Spinal Villain if you want a cool red sideboard card, and it's more maindeckable than something like Pyroblast in this format. Fun engine card with Squee, Goblin Nabob though. She may be right at home in a lower-powered environment, but I can't say for sure.
I don't think she's quite powerful enough, which is too bad. She has been one of my top 5 or so favorite Magic characters since she appeared in flavor text in Ice Age, and I was stoked when she got a card in Time Spiral.
I hope we get a planeswalker card for her (she became a planeswalker, right?) in a commander product or something.
has anyone tried her in the last few years? I saw her in Kranny's cube and thought it looked like fun.
It's slow and fragile, but maybe more interesting than a ferocidon?
We have some pretty solid red 3 drops at the minute, I don't think I am too interested in jaya ballard, task mage. The reach is pretty sweet but she is pretty fragile so if you want any damage out of her you are always going to be tieing up mana and cards and that isn't something red decks want to do; to get the first 3 damage you need to sing in RRR2 and a card.
It's definitely a fun card but not something I'm interested in running in my current environment.
