I can't seem to find an SCD or discussion of any sort of this card, so I thought this would be a good place to talk about it.
It's a card I've eyed for a bit of a while, but I'm having some trouble evaluating its power and playability.
How good would this card be in a cube environment? And what sort of situations and types of cubes would it be good in (i.e. regular, themed etc)?
There are some boards where Void seems to do work. When you can randomly kill 2 cards the opponent controls with that number, it's pretty good (especially if the chosen number is 3 or 4). And anytime Void clips a card it feels good. I played Void in my classic cube for quite a while, and it's not bad. Unfortunately, it runs into consistency issues, and can fall apart against balanced CMC boards, or when the removal happens to be symmetrical with the CMCs of your own permanents. It ultimately didn't make the cut because it was too hard to make it consistently good.
I agree with everything wtwlf said. It's good, but it's too inconsistent to stack up in today's cube.
In one of the earliest iterations of my cube, I hit the best Void I've ever seen. I was facing down a board where my opponent had an Umezawa's Jitte equipped to Soltari Priest with two cards in hand. I had been hit once already and had nothing in play or in hand to save me. I drew Void. I cast it for mana cost 2. It destroys the Jitte and Priest. What was in my opponent's hand? Balance and Doom Blade. Sickest. Void. Ever. Unfortunately, you can't count on that.
It was in the last iteration of the MTGO Vintage Cube, and it seemed to do decent work there. It seems a bit slow and inconsistent, but the ACS for it seems to be at least a 2-for-1.
Aesthetically, I have a hard time getting past the art on Void. It looks like it's supposed to be in a completely different game and has nothing to do with the name of the card.
