Love this Chandra, both in cube and in EDH. The {0} ability is big-game in EDH, and they're all great in cube. It's actually probably my favorite control finisher, unless you count Wildfire as a finisher.

I haven't gotten many reps in with big Chandra yet, but she seems promising. Wurmcoil engine is probably my favorite non-blue control finisher. It turns around so many gamesbthat casting it feels like cheating.

Well, we already covered vengeance with Ancient Grudge a few weeks ago, so in the spirit of V for Vendetta, what's your favorite movie based on a comic book?

This card has proven to be pretty meh in my experience. There are times where you kill something and the lifeless doesn't matter, but more often than not you either want to kill a creature that's too big or you can't afford to lose the life.
Even though there were some major changes, Watchmen was a stellar and captured the comic well.
I ran Vendetta for the longest time in my cube, but replaced it wih Regicide last summer, because I'm a nut for the "draft matters" cards from Conspiracy.
My favorite comic book movie is probably Watchmen, even if it misses a lot of material from the book, it get's most of it right (and the villain's grand scheme is actually better in the film), has awesome visuals and a great soundtrack.
That being said, Snuff Out isn't legal in Modern so this seems like it would be a decent replacement maybe? I'd probably explore all my Doom Blade variants before this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Modern is missing out on Snuff Out / Diabolic Edict / Chainer's Edict off the top of my head, so this probably can fill some holes.
I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but I love the Tim Burton Batman movies. The later ones with George Clooney are so bad, they're good. Arnold as Mr. Freeze is classic.
As far as modern comic book movies goes, I think Guardians of the Galaxy is the best Marvel movie to date. I really enjoyed Dr. Strange and Antman, which I thought I wasn't going to. Deadpool was a nice departure from your run of the mill comic book movie, still need to see Logan.
I think Vendetta is just too weak in comparison to the other available 1cc black removal now. Dismember, Fatal Push and Disfigure are all so much better than Vendetta that I think the sun has set on its playability.
I really appreciate accuracy in comic book transfers to film, and Sin City is probably my favorite one.
I still run Vendetta in my peasant cube, where it's solid. There's a lot of good, cheap black removal out there, though, so I don't know how long it'll stay.
My favorite comic-book movie is Road to Perdition.
Great choice. The cinematography in Road to Perdition was outstanding.
Yeah, it was. Great performances all around, too. I just rewatched it a couple months ago after not seeing it for several years, and it's just as excellent as ever.

Agreed 100%, and you're right that Snuff Out, Diabolic Edict, and Chainer's Edict all are not Modern-legal, so this is probably the best analog they could come up with for this iteration of cube.
As much as I've been enjoying the recent deluge of Marvel movies, my favorite is probably the 1999 spoof Mystery Men. It's not a movie, but I really loved Netflix's Jessica Jones, and I'm disappointed that they still haven't released a 2nd season of it.

I don't think I ever saw this card, because I wasn't playing during Masques or Worldwake haha. It's not bad, though. I wouldn't run it a 450, but it's not a bad option for suicide black.

I just introduced Mystery Men to my brothers about two weeks ago. It still holds up surprisingly well despite the limitations on CGI back then.
If any of you haven't seen it yet, Logan is very good, though not a happy funtime movie.
Watchmen was superbly well done, but the change to the ending causes the story to unravel a bit, and things stop making sense. Since Veidt isn't making psychic giant space squids, there's no reason Bubastis should exist because he's never mentioned being in genetic engineering. Since they changed the ending to a ploy of Dr Manhattan going nuts, the rest of the world should want America to answer for it's superweapon going insane and killing millions of people worldwide, instead of happy-funtime-unity. Things just crumble. Seeing some cosmic, psychic space Cthulhu being tested on children would drive the Comedian to tears and lose his grip, sending him to try and reason it out with Moloch, but why would Veidt's plan of just causing explosions in cities break him? gaskgnascgnaskgnaklsdglkasdgbanfbkalsngfkaf The more you think about it, the less it begins to work.
My favorite is probably The Dark Knight. Batman movies seem to have this recurring theme of fans saying "We don't like X actor for this part" and they do a really fantastic job. Michael Keaton caused tons of nerdrage in the 80s despite the lack of the internet to spread it. Batfleck was hated before Dawn of Justice released, despite him (and Jeremy Irons as Alfred) being the best parts of that movie. Pretty Boy Heath Ledger was panned as the choice for the Joker, but did an incredible job. Long movie, but keeps things consistently interesting and enjoyable.
I believe Dead // Gone was in my first cube iteration and I don't think it saw any play. Not being able to dome players or planeswalkers is a huge drawback these days. Not sure if I'd play this card even if it had Fuse.
When I'm dead I just want to be cremated and have my ashes spread on a beach or something. I don't want a grave plot, I don't believe that the dead should take up real estate like that and I don't want to create a place for my family to go and be sad.
People often say that they want X item buried with them, which I really don't believe in also. Take my bass for example: I know a lot of guitar / other instrument owners who say they want their instrument buried with them. Just because I'm dead doesn't mean my instrument is dead and I'd rather have it live to play another day than bury it with me.
Dead//Gone was in the first few iteration of my cube 8 years ago (man, time flies). Not being able to kill players was what killed the card back then, and the arrival of planeswalkers made it even worse.
Agree with all the above sentiments. Not a fan, a lot of better options.
In my opinion, there is no god and we are all biological lottery winners placed on a rock with no purpose other than what is biologically ingrained in us i.e. reproducing. So you i.e. what your brain has identified as 'you', just stops. Once the machine breaks, the machine breaks, and that means your mind stops running.
Frankly this is kind of a liberating thought process, as instead of the arbitrary goals placed on us to do this or that before we die, I just try to do what makes me happy as long as I'm not hurting others. When I die, I'll go where the rest of us go which is back to the earth or the air or wherever, and then voila thanks for coming. Hopefully won't die soon! But I don't think there's heaven or hell, just the same ***** we've been standing on.
I don't know if I had seen this card before.I was actually excited until I reailsed it couldn't hit players but unfortunately that kinda killed it for me, I might have given it a shot if it hit players (fuse would have been the icing on the cake but I'm just making a new card by that point). It would have been been an interesting find, it's not too often I see something cube-able that I wasn't aware of.
When I die I will transcend this plain of reality and return to The Mothership to continue my wanderings across the universe on my quest for redemption.
I've never tried Dead // Gone, in peasant or otherwise. I guess I just never saw the need for it. I think Flame Slash and Roast are much better in the same slot, but I'll grant that it's an answer to some Reanimator, Natural Order, etc targets that red otherwise has no answer for.
I like to imagine that there's enough we don't understand about the nature of simply existing that perhaps we do carry on in some sense after death. Not heaven or even necessarily reincarnation, but there's a permanence to having existed that I don't think time can completely undo. Maybe there's more significance to our consciousness than just having won an absurdly improbable genetic lottery. True oblivion is just too alien for me to wrap my around. Then again, if that's all there is, it's not like I'll be able to complain about it
I'd rather run any other version of Shock with upside, like Galvanic Blast or Wild Slash - which I'm not running yet, that can hit planeswalkers. However, as I learned from crunching the numbers on Disfigure it shouldn't be hard to find a target for Dead, so if I saw this in someone else's cube I wouldn't be shy about picking it up and running it in the main.
I'll grant that it's an answer to some Reanimator, Natural Order, etc targets that red otherwise has no answer for.
That's probably the best reason to run this card, although I think I'd rather add a Threaten variant or 2 if I saw RDW decks in my cube drafts getting run over by combo decks instead of the other around.
I don't believe in an afterlife either, although I look forward to being proven wrong.

As 1cc black removal spells go, after crunching some numbers in my own cube recently, I found that Disfigure actually hits more targets than Doom Blade/Vendetta would.
