I wish there was a foil version of raymond swanlands art. doom blade is good at what it does but i dont think it is neccesary in cubes under 400 cards. Go for the throat and Ultimate price have more targets and the new cast down/fall into oblivion is also better.
I think it's a bit outclassed now. Go for the Throat is a better Terror-variant, and we're about to get another better one too. And I don't even run that card anymore. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's pretty basic/fair. I prefer a lot of other black removal spells to these kinds of cards now.
I liked Martial Coup before we got more playable cheap Wraths. When the format was a little slower, it was a total bomb. But as the pace sped up, the need for cheap Wraths grew, and this one just got too slow.
Rolling Earthquake and Earthquake are probably my favorite X spells. I've seen 'em cast on X for big numbers a few times, occasionally to just force the game to a tie.
Manglehorn is an upgrade to Viridian Shaman and Uktabi Orangutan in every possible way, except the lack of monkey sex. I don't see any reason to not run this card in a standard cube.
I prefer several naturalize effects ahead of Manglehorn (Reclamation Sage, Nature's Claim, and Acidic Slime). Not being able to hit enchantments hurts, but the extra hate against artifacts is nice. Manglehorn is better in powered environments. It's a fine inclusion in any cube, but I don't run it.
Spellskite is a good card, both for control against aggro (great blocker, will absorb burn spells), for reanimator and cheat decks to protect fatties, and for artifact decks, for obvious reasons.
I think I end up paying mana more often than life on phyrexian mana cards, but not by much and usually that's when I draw/cast the cards off curve anyway.
There are many like it, but this one is mine. Go for the Throat is often considered the best 2 mana removal spell in black and I agree. It's the only one I run in my 360 unpowered.
Probably the best of the 2 mana removal spells in black, I haven't run the math but it's between this and Ultimate Price.
I once stabbed my hand trying to separate 2 frozen burgers, went right into the lowest joint of my pointing finger, couldn't move my finger properly for days. Wedged the knife between them and started wiggling it until it pushed right through in in to my finger, I'm an idiot.
I think this would be the first of the black targeted removal spells I'd to my cube. It seems to have the greastest number of targets, but I'd check on Ultimate Price before making the choice.
I'm not sure what my worst laceration was, but I have a scar from a huge male iguana biting through my index finger and about half the fingernail. That sucked.
Isn't Ultimate Price worse than Go for the Throat in Cube? Ultimate price cannot target artifact creatures as well because they are not mono-colored. So the only creatures that GffT can't kill but Price can are mono colored artifact creatures, which is just Porcelain Legionnaire for most cubes. On the flip side, there are more multicolored creatures in cube.
I think for the best 2cc black removal, I would pur this and Doom Blade as close contenders.
As for the art, both arts are good, but I like the promo more. The vampire is more sinister (rather than bloodthirsty) and the elf is in pain (rather than just shocked).
Dungeon Geists, then was a hard cut a few years ago for me. The excitement of spotting them in the spoilers, discussing the card with my housemates, and then trying to open or trade for the heavy hitters on a college budget...every card in my cube, particularly back then, was so important to me, and was something that was fond and familiar to my friends. But the Geists...they weren't great! The card went late even in the earliest days of my cube. On paper, it should've been fantastic - it's a blue Banisher Priest but with reasonable stats, right?? But it never felt like that to players as it was getting passed around the table, and I think the visceral action of physically moving a card to exile does a lot more psychologically than tapping a creature. Now that my cube's at 720, I think Dungeon Geists would be totally fine from a power-level perspective (if a little boring), but I just know that none of my players would play it. Kind of a shame, but at least most of the rest of the Cube Class from Dark Ascension is still around.
Re: untapping - don't do anything to help me remember, I'm generally ok at remembering but I'd like to be better.
Dungeon Geists is a fun card that I like playing, but it does seem to be underrated by many players, especially considering that Sower of Temptation is better most of the time. There are lots of good blue 4-drops, and this guy is a bit bellow the best ones.
I set cards that won't untap, either due to cards like Geist or being exerted, off to the side of my play area, and when untapping everything else I bring them back to the center instead of untapping it.
I like Dungeon Geists a lot, it was amoungst the rares in my first fatpack and has hung about in cube due to being an evasive beater that locks down a creature. I agree with Braid of Fire, it feels a lot like a blue Banisher Priest alot of the time, and against creatures with and etb it can be even better but that 1 extra mana makes a world of difference in terms of what it is stacked up against unfortunately. I cut mine a while ago to test out Curator of Mysteries and I could definitely see myself changing back if I don't have a better option before my next update (Curator of Mysteries has been very lackluster).
Geists can slot into most blue archtypes as it can be at the top end of tempo or the middle of a curve in control or midrange. A 3/3 body helps speed up the clock a lot, especially when it is removing a potential blocker. In a format where the skies are dominated by 1/1 spirits Dungeon Geists is often the biggest creature in the air.
If you are in need of a budget option in your 4 drop blue slot Geists is a great option, you can buy it for pennies but does enough to hold it own.
I usually remember what won't untap and on the occasions I don't my opponent is usually more than happy to remind me.

my favourite x spells are secure the wastes and rakdos's return. last cube draft rakdos's return actually saved me from a lethal rolling earthquake which was coming the next turn.

Do you ever have difficulties remembering when a permanent isn't supposed to untap? Do you do anything to help you remember?
