I don't think the captain will work in most cube environments, even if it is a cool effect. It is definatly an EDH card imo.
I wish they would print more Legendary matter effects that are cubeworthy. I really like the affect karakas has on cube. especially since they have been pushing more cube worthy legendary cards recently.
In how "legendary" works, I am not a huge fan of the new ruling in terms of mechanics affecting planes walkers. I don't like that you can have 2 or 3 different versions of the same walker in play.
Selesnya is too stacked for Sisay to make it even with the updated rules. She's just too expensive and fragile, imo.
I think the current legendary rules make sense from a game play standpoint, but are a complete flavor fail. Personally, I think once there's a Liliana on the board, no more copies of Liliana should be played on either side. The same for legendary creatures. Curving Thalia 1.0 into Thalia 2.0 is really sweet, but makes actual zero sense from a flavor standpoint. Second Thalia shows up and is like, "Thalia! I'm you from the future! ***** gets real bad!"
My favorite non-creature/non-walker legendary card has to be Umezawa's Jitte. It's just an all around balanced and fun Magic card.
I still like both the original legendary and original walkers rule. If not the original legendary, the second one that allowed you to pop an opposed legend with your legend. There basically should only be one copy of a legend or walker on the board at a time. Everything else is a flavor fail.
She is cool but not something I would run outside of EDH.
Favorite legendary non-person (off the top of my head) might be Westvale Abbey, it's just a flavour/mechanics homerun for me. (Edit: Is that cheating? I guess it does become a creature).
I think too it is a huge flavor fail to have many versions of the same person on the battlefield, and I'd prefer a legend rule, that would ensure that. Only exception should be Clone effects, because that's what clones do, they copy someone.
This x100. I hate the thought of having two of the same walker of the field, but i do think you should be able to clone your own legendary creatures. It could maybe even work, alter the rules for copying a permanent to ignore the Legendary super type.
I've always liked Sissay, and I'm glad I got her when she was cheap. She's a fun build-around, but I've certainly tried and failed to get the critical mass of legends to make her work. Planeswalker density is low in my cube, so it's not that major a bump for me there. At this point, one of my favorite parts of a giant cube is that I can afford flex slots in guilds.
I agree with various ones of you that no planeswalkwer or legendary individual should have two iterations out at the same time. A specific exception for clones would be cool, and I'd never thought of that.
My favorite legendary object is Whip of Erebos. There's just so much you can do with it.
This has played well for me, and it's better than some of the lackluster creature five-drops. There's no real reason not to play it in a creature slot.
Bonus Questions: What is downstairs from you?
What is your favorite card to discard?
Tried it when I pulled one from a SoI draft. ETB tapped and having to discard for Instant speed were killers, so I went back to Shriekmaw as my only black 5-drop permanent.
I like discarding Deep Analysis, since that decision usually means it's an interesting game
Fastbond is cool. It's not always great, and it's this weird card that plays worse than it does in vintage but better than most cube owners think. I don't run it, but with Ramunap Excavator I should bring it back.
It was probably a turn when someone was going off with storm
Fastbond is broken. But like a lot of older powerful cards, it's a bit polar in its effect - either it does unreasonable things or it does very little. In my experience, Fastbond is really only busted in your opening hand with a bunch of ways to draw cards (and big things/effects to spend the early mana advantage on). Storm likes this card. Gush loves this card. I would classify Fastbond as pretty narrow though and probably only worth including in a combo focused cube. Could be wrong on that though as I've only run it in that type of cube to be fair.
Longest turn was definitely a storm turn. Or when we paused one time mid game to go get some food. I suppose that turn lasted an hour and a half technically.
I run Exploration, which is as close to Fastbond as I'm willing to get. If I had a copy, I might throw it in just to see what it does, but I don't like how swingy it is, in terms of being broken on turn one and bupkiss on turn 7.
We don't support storm in any way, so those combo turns don't happen for us, but a few nights ago, there was a turn involving Future Sight overturning multiple draw spells with Dual Casting active. Many cards were drawn, cascades cascaded, and a lot of Devils' Playground tokens were made.
Fastbond has done broken things, but it's gotten less crazy as I've gradually cut the cards it specifically supports, like and Future Sight, Meloku the Clouded Mirror. But it still occasionally combos off or just accelerates by 2-3 turns for 1 mana, so it's in no danger of the cut.
I also run Explore. Mostly because I think it's funny how often Time Walk does exactly the same thing.
I think Fastbond needs combo support to be great. I tried to play it as a just a ramp card multiple times, and without things like Gush, Future Sight, Magus of the Future, Magus of the Wheel, and just about every multi-draw spell you can play, it's not that good at face value.
We've had a couple of epically long turns. Recently, we had one involving Memory Jar, Goblin Welder and Psychatog that took about 5 minutes to calculate and plan out. It ended up with the 'Tog player getting through 2 blockers (one of which was a Hangarback) and having 'Tog bash for 22. After having to pump it and use Toxic Deluge to wipe the board. Epic turn. Those are the games I don't mind losing.
Blast from the Past is great. One of the 3 Un cards I run (hoping Unstable will increase that number a little).
If you asked me my favorite old bordered card in my cube everyday, I'd probably give you a different answer every time, but today I'm going to say Necropotence. The card just looks really cool, and I never get the chance to play it outside of cube.
I just recently added Blast from the Past. Great card. The cycle+madness trick is a sweet way to essentially get the spell effect + a card by making it 1RR in stead of 2R. I have kicked and flashback'd a bunch of times. Never buyback though. That mode is just too pricey (but no strike against the card for that IMO).
Favorite old bordered cube card? I have no idea. Too many choices. Literally half my cube is old bordered. Karmic Guide is one of my favorite cube cards of all time. So I'll go with that I guess.
Never buyback though. That mode is just too pricey (but no strike against the card for that IMO).
I have used it as a repeatable source of late game damage and card advantage at least afew times; cycling, madness, buyback costs 8 in total and that isn't unattainable a big mana R/x deck or in multiplayer, and when you are top decking it can be good to hold it the end of there turn and start grinding the game out. Think of it kinda like a Hammer of Bogardan that draws a card, slow but inevitable.
It's not an ideal plan but it can get the job done.
I've included it as a wincon in palinchron/heartbeat of spring decks. And I've def seen the buyback used in a control deck before in a matchup where it was relevant. There have also been a couple times where it was used as the most expensive punishing fire ever. Not the mode used most (cycle + madness wins that) but it's amazing that it's even an option.
I love this card! Even though it's meant as a joke, I like the many options it provides over a long game. I saw a ramp deck that seemed stuck on drawing lands win with repeatedly buying this back multiple times. I think the only mode I've not seen used is Kicker so far.
I only run two old border cards in my cube, this and Tinker. And Tinker is old border only because I like the Jhoira art so much more than the Tezzeret one (here's hoping for a reprint with some Jhoira art in the 25 Masters Set). Of those two cards my favor goes to Tinker.
I love me some Mind Twist. Best black card in the cube.
Thrun, the Last Troll (and now Carnage Tyrant) can feel obnoxious when they resolve, especially when the uncounterability matters. I love the feeling when my opponent plays an ETBT tapped land right after I resolve a Jackal Pup or the like. Feels good man.
Least favorite card is Upheaval, since I know it could take a while for my inevitable death to occur. Favorite is dream halls for similar but different reasons, as at least the game is going to end that turn and I'm excited to see if they go off.
Mind Twist is absurdly good on the play, particularly against slower decks where it basically reads "I win". It's much more abusive with fast mana to the point where I'd call it legitimately broken. Not my bag but I see the appeal it has to many people. One nice thing I feel about cards like this in cube is even if your deck sucks, you can still get cheap wins by simply drawing cards like this. It helps even the playing field somewhat between your weaker and better players since anyone can rip a card like this and just beat you with it regardless of what else you might be doing.
My personal least favorite card to have resolved against me is Balance. It's just a slap in the face. The farther ahead you are on board the more you tend to be impacted by this. It's just an unreasonable card which I find very unfun. Most other members of my group would probably say Bribery though. I had a full on revolt against that card back in the day.

My fave noncreature, non-walker legend is Volrath's Stronghold although Jitte and Tolarian Academy are probably the most powerful ones.

Griselbrand, because usually that means I get to have a Griselbrand in play, and he's the best.
