I'll admit that I've never really liked him. I like the ability to buff your team, but there are things like Ajani that can do that without requiring you to play a kind of dorky creature. I'd rather have Honor of the Pure or Crusade for pure anthem effects and things like Baneslayer Angel if I just want a big, bomby white creature.
My favorite +1/+1 counter card definitely has to be Altered Ego. Dodging counters and entering as a copy of the best creature on the board is really cool, since it's always better than the best creature currently on board.
I've never cubed with Mikaeus, but the fact that you have to wait a full turn after you cast him to get a mass pump seems like a deal breaker to me. That not only slows down your clock in an aggro deck because you're waiting a turn, but also because you're missing the chance to push through extra damage that usually comes from casting a surprise Anthem by leaving your opponent with bad blocks the turn you cast it. This makes Mike just a bit too clunky for cube, but he's been a holy terror in my Daghatar, the Unbowed EDH deck.
My favorite +1/+1 counter card would have to be Ajani Goldmane, it's still solid after all these years.

Wow, I forgot I had it in my cube back when Innistard came out!
The card was fine, but way too slow. It is a unique card for white though, and it combo well with persist. Also, his "Hangarback Walker" mode of pumping itself isn't that bad when you're doing it early in the game.
My favorite +1/+1 counter card has to be [card[Vigor[/card] - a staple for any +1/+1 comander theme, and a nostalgic card for me.
Yes, this is a card that is generally considered to be honorary Power, but I ran across a blog post recently arguing that it might be worth considering even for Unpowered cubes that are weighing options for lands that produce C. There's no serious doubt that it's good, but is it too good for cubes without power?

Jeez. I have a hard time seeing library in an unpowered cube because I have a hard time seeing how it could not be just absolutely busted. The number of cards you draw off library is game-breakingly absurd.
The last time I went to a library would have to have been about a year and a half ago back when I was in college. I have ebooks which make libraries much less important, and don't have a license, so getting to the library is enough of a hassle that buying books is greatly prefered.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I think it's the best card in a fully powered cube, so I wouldn't recommend playing it in a list that bans powerful cards for any reason. Library is insanely good, and when it's on, it's as if you and your opponent are playing different games; one where you get to draw 2 cards a turn instead of 1. Ring and Crypt and Lotus allow for more explosive plays, but Library's effect is far more unique and less replaceable.
I took my son to the local library to check out some books earlier this year! But before that, it had been a while...
I think Library of Alexandria is even better in an unpowered Cube than in a powered Cube. With Library, you trade some tempo for an additional draw step every turn, which pays of very quickly. The way to beat Library is by being fast, and powered Cubes add some additional tools for decks that are looking for an early kill. I would not recommend playing the card in an unpowered Cube.
The last time I stepped into an actual Library? I can't even remember because books are so cheap nowadays.
I wouldn't play Library without also playing power 9 plus Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, etc.
I'm in an actual library almost every day because I teach high school. As far as a regular public library, I was in one over the summer a good deal.

Library is insane, I'd pick it over most power 9, so yes if you ban for power library is a no. (Lotus, walk and recall) Last summer was the last time I was in a library, Ebooks are just too convenient.
An aside about mikaeus, I think his best performances were when he was played for 1W. I tried out a lot of mediocre to bad cards around scars/inn since I started cubing in zendikar, most surprisingly tibalt actually did pretty well, despite no one expecting anything from him, nor valuing him highly in the draft.
Library might be the best card in a fast-mana powered cube, and it only gets better when you remove fast mana since those make Library into a Wastes when you open with them. As Konfusius said. I cut it alongside the fast mana, but now I'm running fast mana again I may bring it back. It's quite a binary card in some games, and not in the way Land Tax is where you can kind of play into it over several turns.
Library is crazy good, but I don't think it's the best card in a fast-mana powered cube since so often the cards that can advance your mana beat a Library if the Library player isn't dropping their own mana. It's the best vs non-powered starts, but I like Lotus and Sol Ring more.
I make my proxies at the library cause it's .25/page for color prints lol
Library is extremely good. Any chance I get to draft it I do, especially when I see it pick 2 or 3. I have lost to its value before, and it is very hard to recover from.
I actually really enjoy spending time at the library. I like explore and stumble onto new books and topics. The St. Louis Central Library was recently renovated and it is a really cool piece of our culture. http://central.slpl.org/
I once held a Library of Alexandria in my hands. I couldn't afford to buy it, but my LGS guy wanted me to check it's authenticity. One of my all-time favorite cards and I cannot say enough good things about this card. But I would warn about playing it without other power being present, because it might be too warping.
I went to my local library about 3 months ago. Was doing some work setting up and breaking down stages for a downtown concert, and in some of the downtime, went to the library to relax, read a bit of a book, and enjoy the air conditioning and water fountains.
Yeah I'm not stepping anywhere near this thing. I don't even run a single Sword due to overwhelming and unfun power in a small cube, and sol ring is among my least favorite cards ever, so this power like this is toxic to me Wish I could play it though, because yeah it's absolutely insane.
Like MikePemulis I am also a high school teacher so I end up at the school library almost every day. Aside from that I also help run a card games club at the town library for kids. I'm brand new to the town and only a few kids had played mtg where most play pokemon or cardfiht vanguard. Happy to get to share this great game with them!
I consistently take Library over Recall, Lotus, Time Walk, Moxen in the Vintage cube, and I'm about 50-50 when Sol Ring and Library are both present P1P1. It would be absolutely stupid bonkers in any unpowered list, and is comically stronger than Strip Mine.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
I don't have any experience with Library of Alexandria unless you count watching Channel Fireball videos of the CFB pros crushing people with it in the MTGO Holiday Cube. The article took me a bit by surprise, and although I agree with Nick Nobody on a lot of things I can't say I'm surprised to hear that he's out to lunch on this one.
There really aren't many public libraries where I live. The university I work at has one, but nothing is lent out, you have to use and copy anything on site so I don't bother with it. These days, anything I want to read I just download or buy online and read it on my phone. The last time I used a library was when I was living in the US and working at a group home for the mentally handicapped about 7 years ago. We frequently took our clients there on weekends, where they loved the free access to computers and DVDs.

I've played smallpox, but eventually just felt the package required too many slots to be worth it in 360. Cards fun and good in that package though.
When I'm sick I like to work as much as possible, I usually work 12+ hours when I'm sick because I know my day is going to be bad regardless. I also drink oj a lot, I'm one of those cooks that only likes taking over the counter cold medicine when I NEED it to function.
I play Smallpox in Modern when I play it. Casting a t2 Smallpox facing down a mana dork, discarding Life from the Loam or Blood ghast, that's about the best feeling you can get in Modern.
I like it in cube, too. I run the Pox package and I think Smallpox is better than Pox much of the time. The Pox package has gotten less popular, it seems. I have an irrational live for symmetrical effects. I wish Wizards would print more engine cards for the Pox package.
I never get sick, but when I do, I complain a lot to my wife.

I run (and love) Pox, but found Smallpox to be just shy of good enough. I do run and like it in my lower power list, but it doesn't make the cut in my powered cube.
I rarely get sick, but it seems like when I do it's never just a common cold. It's always the flu or bronchitis or something equally terrible. I also complain to my wife a bunch and generally act like a child while self medicating until I get better or have to see my doctor.
I just picked up Nissa vs Ob Nixilis and the Small Pox included in the package. I plan to experiment with this and pox, I can see the power of this black package.
