I like Fumarole a lot. It's nice since UR decks often either need the defensive threat if they're a controlling build, or they need something that can end the game quick if they're turning the gas on themselves, and fumarole accomplishes both roles well.
I have not visited a Volcano, though I do know what one is.
Attacking for four damage is more than I need out of my lands. I do not like to block with it, but some times you've got to do it and it trades with most threats.
I've never seen an eruption or flowing lava, but I've seen/been on two active volcanoes. One is Mount Saint Helens in WA. You can even walk in an extinct lava tube there. I've also hiked on an active volcano, in New Zealand - a popular hike called Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
Fumarole is as playable as all the other man-duals. I don't like it as much as I like most of the others, but it's still a great card.
To my knowledge, I have not been on a volcano. However I did a little hiking in western Panama and some of the mountains may have been extinct volcanoes. There were two earthquakes while I was in the country, so it's seismically active.
I like Fumarole just fine. It's probably in the bottom 3 creaturelands, but that's okay by me.

Fumarole's great. It gets in for 4 when the coast is clear, and can block beasts on defense. And even on most contested boards, it force the opponent to dedicate a bear to block it to avoid taking 4. That's a nice amount of combat utility to have strapped to a fixing land.
A combination of Izzet Guildgate, Horned Turtle, and Gore Swine isn't super exciting at first glance, but being able to have a manland that's good on offense and defense that still fixes your mana is absolutely worth it. Like the rest of the BFZ/OGW manlands, Wandering Fumarole doesn't really pull me into its color pair the way Celestial Colonnade and Creeping Tar Pit do, but once I'm already drafting Izzet I do pick it pretty highly because manland duals are just that good. It's easily the 4th best dual land for Izzet, and I don't see it getting outclassed in the foreseeable future.
I've been lucky enough to have a chance to hike active volcanoes in Costa Rica and Nicaragua when I was doing a study abroad in Central America, and got to peer into two actual fumaroles. I hope to never see one that wanders.
I like Ancient Grudge in constructed, but don't play it in cube. If I was playing a powered cube, I'd probably put it in a rainbow section or something. It's hard to lose a guild slot to such a narrow, non-archetype-defining card, but I'd want to play it. I know LSV thinks the world of it in Vintage Cube drafts.
Do I hold any grudges? Sure. But the best grudge story I've ever heard is between two of my dad's buddies. In the 80s, Mark and Jim played softball together. One night Mark said something untoward about Jim's wife, and when Jim went home, he discovered a squirrel in his live trap. So instead of taking it down to the woods as he always did, he took it to Mark's yard to release it, under cover of darkness. Then he did the same thing every time he had a squirrel trapped. For twenty years. He only stopped because he moved ten miles away.
I heard the story while we were small game hunting one time, and I asked Mark why he was so angry about squirrels. He complained at length about the squirrel population in his yard, and how it seemed like he had more squirrels in his yard than anyone else he knew about. To this day, Mark has no idea. We always chuckle about it when he brings up the squirrels in his yard.

Great spell, but mono red and green have enough options so that I don't have to dedicate a guild slot to a pure artifact removal spell.
I've made peace with everything in my life so far except for one person who closed herself off from everybody. My friends and I have reached out multiple times, ball is in her court now. Depression runs in her family, so that's probably one of the underlying causes. Not exactly a grudge, just an indefinite, unresolved conflict....
Love me some Ancient Grudge. Always overperforms. I've tried cutting it from my Gruul section but I miss it when I do, so I stopped doing that. For some, it's hard to find room, especially if you like spamming the powerful Gruul 4's, but I think it's well worth it in a powered environment.
I prefer not to run cards that are completely dead if there are no artifacts to destroy. Disenchant and Manic Vandal are as narrow as I want my artifact removal to be. It has an extra strike against it for being a functional gold card in a guild with plenty of competition. My Gruul spots are all taken up by beatdown and ramp cards, there just isn't room for a card I expect to usually start in the sideboard.
If I did run this card, I'd go with the Innistrad art.
I've learned not to bother holding grudges, if someone proves to be toxic or untrustworthy, I just cut them out of my life or at least keep them at as much of a distance as I can. Life's too short to be consumed by grudges and resentment.

I was hypothetically testing Gary in my head last night, seems like an underrated cube card to me. 2-power synergies, in a color ripe for recursion abuse, and has very little competition in its slot. The life swing can be huge, especially when done multiple times via recursion / blink / clones.
I've never worked in sales, but I did work in the NYC diamond district for a while. It's basically legal drug dealing: everything is weighed out, put into ziplock bags, nobody trusts each other, and there's a good amount of racism going on.
The black 5cc creature section is pretty shallow, so I don't fault people for using Gray Merchant, especially not if they push mono-black/devotion alongside it.
I worked in sales for quite a while before starting my career.
Gray Merchant's one of the black cards in my multiplayer expansion, because the ETB effect does so much more work in a multiplayer game. Without trying to support mono-black/devotion decks, I don't think Gary's ACS is good enough for the average cube mostly because the body's pretty lame for 5-mana. Shriekmaw's the only black 5-drop I run in my unpowered cube.
I worked as a telemarketer during summers when I was in college, cold-calling people to get them to buy magazine subscriptions and overpriced vitamins and water filters. The constant rejection really got to me, and I was really glad to move on to other things.

Gray Merchant is in my C/Ube, where he's quite solid. The competition for spots at 5 in Black leaves him out of the Eternal cube, though. This is a good man, and if my cube were larger, he'd probably have a spot.
If you count retail as sales, then I worked in sales for several years before finding my career.
Probably the best 5 drop black creature that's actually played at 5 mana. Not oppressively strong, though can be abused with recursion. Doesn't force mono black, but can still give good life swings in multicolor. I like Gary a lot. I don't see him being cut from my 450 anytime soon, partially because Shriekmaw is about the only competition it has at the 5CMC slot for black creatures.
I have avoided working sales because I am not someone who can work to make belligerent people happy. I make happy people miserable. I teach.

You guys are both missing out on Custodi Lich. If you're skipping it because of Monarch: don't. It's no more complex than any other mechanic, and your drafters probably aren't morons. Lich is a great black 5 drop that won't be leaving my cube anytime soon.

I agree! I actually have 2 playgroups, one that's more casual and really embraced Conspiracy, the other that sees it as basically the same as Unglued. I tried to get them on board, but ultimately found it was better to respect their wishes and turn Conspiracy into a separate module.
I still really don't like the lack of reminder text on the Monarch cards, though.

One of the best EoT shenanigans you can throw out. Instant speed black tutor is nothing to scoff at, even if you have to draw the card. Up there with Demonic Tutor as cards that can push you towards black early without actually forcing it.
I am currently a college teacher, but I have tutored a few subjects before.
This was one of the first money cards I bought for cube. Found a MP Visions copy for $20 at a store and said to hell with it. It was sort of the start of my cube going from a random collection of cards I had to something more cultivated.
I love the card, and I love my copy of it. It's a pretty good reason to play or splash black, and outside of aggro, there aren't a ton of reasons to do that.
