I almost feel sorry for this card. Based on the name, the initial hype, and the fact that WoTC released a judge foil of this card I think they expected this to be the second coming of Snapcaster Mage.
To be fair, it's a pretty disgusting EDH card. It's no where close to snap caster otherwise but there are a lot of spells in EDH that when you dual cast them it's a nightmare for your opponent.
I haven't run him because there are other 3 power 2 drops that i prefer, however it's worth noting (as with jackal pup) that he is always 3 power when you want him to be unlike some of the other options like war name aspirant or storm blood berserker.
I like gory films, Braindead (or Dead Alive to you americans) is a good one off the top of my head but I haven't seen it for a while; if you haven't seen it, the film was made by peter jackson of LoTR fame and is a low-budget gore fest with a nice chunk of comedy thrown in. Some of the highlights are combating a roomful of zombies with a lawnmower, trying to keep visitors from noticing his mother is a flesh eating zombie and a Kung-Fu fighting priest (I kick arse for the Lord!). Good clean family fun all round.
Gore-House Chainwalker was one of the more exciting cards for cube beck when it was first spoiled. Where people of other format saw a simple common, we saw a beater that is simple, solid and hit hard without much of a drawback. 3/2 for 1R is a beater that's going to deliver good amount of damage and there wasn't any other candidates for that competition. I like it when commons are good enough for cube (Goblin Heelcutter is another card that exciting me) and to this day, I'm still running the walker, although I probably gonna replace it soon with a more interesting card, Grenzo, Havoc Raiser.
I hate gore movies, but I really liked the Scary Movie serious. Does that counts?
I don't run the Chainwalker at 405. I did at one point, but it's been outclassed by more interesting stuff, and Stormblood Berserker and Plated Geopede fill the roles of 2cmc red beaters better.
Favorite gory movies are Evil Dead 2 and Riki-Oh.

I can't say I'm pleased to see you and must warn you I may have to do something about it.

Gore-house Chainwalker isn't exciting, but it's a 2-drop that attacks for 3, and that's something any red aggro-midrange deck is pretty happy to have. I replaced it a little while back with Thriving Grubs - which I think is a very slight upgrade to GHC - and one of my players straight up revolted at the sight of it in cube, so GHC's back, but it's probably the weakest of my red 2s, so it might not be there much longer.
I've never been one to shy away from a bloody movie, but my wife can't even be in the same room while I watch them, so I see a lot less on-screen gore than I used to. The best I've seen recently is Green Room, a no-way-out situation with a punk band who saw something they shouldn't have at a skinhead bar in the sticks. The movie's a real nail-biter from start to finish with some great performances, particularly from Patrick Stewart as the neo-Nazis' leader. Oh, and if you'd like to see something gory and Christmassy for the holidays, be sure to check out Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale.
Johnny Degenerate, thanks for the Repo! The Genetic Opera recommendation, I'll be checking that out ASAP.

Gore-House Chainwalker is a solid role player, but I don't think he's really needed until you get to the 630+ range.
I like the classic slasher flicks like the Friday the 13th's and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. High Tension was pretty gory, but not very good. Dead Snow was a terrible movie, but super fun to watch. Nazi Zombies, yo.
If i get my hand on one it will replace my Basalt Monolith. I find most time the monolith are a one shot effect but its nice when you have an untap effect or you just have spare mana EoT. Grim monolith is harder to untap but come town a turn earlier, a fair trade off.
I lived alone for a while, it was both home and prison because I was on the dole (welfare) so could never afford to go out.
FWIW you can often find gold bordered Grim Monoliths for $5 or less.
Great card. I think it's the top of what's acceptable for an unpowered cube. It's really good and super strong, but it lands in a spot where it's difficult but not impossible to answer.
Been pretty fortunate in regards to the prison/home thing; have always felt like I've had a lot of freedom, and when I haven't I removed myself from those scenarios.
It's pretty busted, and borderline bannable in unpowered lists that ban cards for powerlevel.
Agreed. It's the fastest artifact mana I run, and the starts it enables can be a bit crazy, but the fact that it's hard to make good use of this until the turn after it's cast mitigates it a bit. It's important to have answers available that cost 2 or less like Disenchant or Pithing Needle in order to run this in an unpowered cube. It's a fun card to have in there, but I don't want anything faster, so Mana Vault is out of the question for me.
I went to college in a really small town surrounded by cornfields and not much else, and I couldn't afford a car so it was hard to get away. I had some great friends and great times, but man it was easy to feel trapped on the weekends. Being broke can make anyplace feel a bit like prison.

I'm certainly not suggesting that it should be banned; only that it's right on the edge of what's considered bannable in lists with intentionally lowered powerlevels.
I always forget about the WC decks (even though I run afew), I'll have to look about on eBay in the new year and see if I can get a cheap grim monolith and a force of will whilst I'm at it.

I got 3 (4?) Grim Monoliths for $10 on eBay a couple years ago, and I searched a min ago and found a single one for $5, so they're def around. Troll and Toad has GB FoWs for ~$12.

I just got one (including shipping) for about £5, it allways boggles my mind it's cheaper to get a card shipped from America than it is to buy in the UK. FoW was £9 shipped but I'm all tapped out at the minute (and won't untap until my next pay cheque) so I will leave it for a while.
Slightly off topic but do you think wizards would ever print championship decks again or is it too much like official proxies? Does it get round the reserved list? It seems like they are the best way to get high value cards into casual hands without angering the serious collectors.
How does it stack up against sol ring? I cut sol ring for being too strong, grim monolith accelerates more, but comes down later and isn't as repeatable.
I will be giving it a go anyway but I'd like to know what I'm getting into; I like having a bit of fast mana but sol ring was slightly too much.
Sol Ring is one of if not the best card you could possibly run in any cube regardless of existing power or not, and we're talking about Monolith being acceptable in an unpowered cube, so I think that speaks to the power difference.
Looking at your cube tutor link it seems that it will easily be one of the top cards in your cube, but with a full set of signets it's not like the grim monolith player is the only one accelerating on T2 so it won't be too wildly absurd.
Bah! Doesn't even combo with Waketrasher!
Strong card obviously, I'd probably run it if there was a modern frame printing (and with that a reasonable price). But as it stands, I'm quite content with just running Basalt Monolith instead. It might be to powerful for my cube anyway...
Sometimes I think my comfortable adult life is a homely prison. There are times I long for something... more? But I'm to chicken to really do something that might risk it. (Some of this bonus questions really hit a nerve XD)
Favorite gory flick would probably be From Dusk Till Dawn.

GHC gets a bit better in Peasant, not only due to lack of competition from rares like Abbot of Keral Keep and Ire Shaman, but also due to +1/+1 counter synergies with cards like Cytoplast Root-kin and Patron of the Valiant.
