This is either the best or the second best black card in the cube, depending on a couple of different metrics. And barring rarity restrictions or power-level bannings, I would expect it to be in pretty much every cube.
Probably my favorite overall cube card, and one of the more underrated. It's hard for players unfamiliar with the card to understand why it's so powerful until they spend a turn watching their opponent's board spiral out of control. It was the first card that truly 'introduced' me to cube, and by that I'm referring to the introduction via trial by fire.
Definitely my favorite card to play in the cube, no card says "abuse" like Recurring Nightmare. It's one of those cards that ages like fine wine: as creatures get stronger over time, so doe Recurring Nightmare.
This is probably the cube card I first pick the most. Grinding your opponent out by recurring ETB creatures over and over while crushing their hopes and dreams is the epitome of magic for me.
This card is the next add to my Black section. Reading the card closely makes me wonder how the hell I've gone this long without adding it! About a year ago I started really changing my cube to support certain archetypes rather than just "what I have lying around" and at that point this card should have been a slam dunk. Glad I'll be rectifying that mistake soon.

To be fair Recurring Nightmare is pretty much a cube-only card at this point, and one of the most underrated ones at that. Unless you are cubing there's no reason to get one as it's not a viable strategy in any of the formats where it's legal, so people new to cube often don't get the power of the card.
Recurring Nightmare is easily a first pick for me and will definitely make me move to/splash black.
The better the ETB effects we get, and the more army in a cans we get, the more powerful this card becomes.
Ah, Recurring Fricking Nightmare.
I'm with Spike_Rogue - I don't think I've ever passed this.
It's on a three-card list of things banned from my cube (along with Tinker and Sylvan Primordial). The final straw came when my local Johnny started swapping Trike and Ashen Rider with it... oppressive.
@Salmo: Don't worry, I still abuse the heck out of it in regular Multiplayer.
This is probably my favourite build around card in Black. When you get it going, man, it feels crazy. So much value. I generally end up in B/G and look for guys like Acidic Slime, Rec Sage, Nekretaal etc to start looping. You can lock them out and start beating. I also like it in Green for Regrowth effects as sometimes they get your Rec Nightmare and your decks engine stalls.
I had to show my playgroup of newer players exactly what the card did, since then unless I open it, I don't get it anymore.
If you want to see how creature power has improved this is a good example. Strict upside from Savannah Lions, and white has enough of these at this point that the Lions are in danger of rotating out of my cube at 450.
I rank it 4th out of the 7 aggro 1-drops I'm running after Kytheon, Hero of Akros, Isamaru, Hound of Konda, and Student of Warfare. The multicolor hosing abilities actually seem to come of less often on Soldier of the Pantheon than the graveyard hate of Mardu Woe-Reaper, which I've found myself siding into less aggressive decks surprisingly often.
Savannah Lions with two upsides and two Tribal synergies for the Cubes that care about that.
There are a lot of Soldiers and Soldier token makers in cube so I'm actually tempted to add some support for this tribe, but are there any remotely worthwhile payoff cards for this besides Captain of the Watch?

Brainstorm is cantrip that requires some synergy to work perfectly in this format, but it's still a very strong cube card. It changes a tremendous percentage of your hand for one mana, it can hide important spells from your opponent's discard effects, and it can tuck Tinker/NO/Oath targets back into your library where you want 'em to be. Not always the place you wanna be on T1 if you can't pair it with a shuffle/library manipulation effect, but nevertheless a powerful cantrip.
Probably the best fair 1cmc "draw" spell in cube but not as powerful as in constructed due to less shuffle effects. Still, while not a super high ceiling in cube, a very high floor, very cheap, and basically every blue deck is happy to have it.
Not as powerful as it is in Legacy, but still pretty damned good. I'm not sure how I rank the blue cantrips, but I think I might like Preordain the most in cube?

Yeah, it might be better. Instant speed is huge, but being able to bottom cards is also huge.
