We play with a free 7 first mulligan house rule but I've never tested this because it seems insanely OP for an unpowered cube like mine.
My wife and I's backup plan is to sell all our earthly possessions, buy two mac books and van and tour North America vagabond style while sustaining our existence by teaching English to Asian kids over the interwebs. We might also do that in the near future for kicks and giggles if the stars align for us
BONUS: Hangerback walker question: The farthest I've ever walked in one day was 19 miles. Two years ago my wife and I hiked Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, CA. The hike is supposed to be 16 miles but we took a few wrong turns and ended up getting lost for 2 hours. Needless to say, we were quite pooped that evening.
In the first Conspiracy draft I did with my friends I got this 4th or 5th pick. I think it's the kind of card where newer players don't immediately recognize the power level. It's nuts and as others have said, doesn't belong in an unpowered cube. You dig a third of the way into your deck before the game even begins. It only lasted for one draft in my cube.
I think the card probably should've said you have to choose one of the hands and you can't take mulligans.
No backup plans here, really. Wife and I both love our jobs and they are in pretty safe industries. (Nursing homes for her and a big urban public school system for me.)
Hangarback Walker is a card that I initially underestimated. Being a long-time cuber and member of this community often makes it easy to identify sleeper hits early (like Goblin Rabblemaster, Kolaghan's Command, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy or Torrential Gearhulk - I got all of those for my cube before their prices exploded). Hangarback is one that I missed. Thought it was meh and didn't pick one up for less than $1 when the set came out. After hearing others liking him in cube, it was already too late. It suddenly was a $10 card. I sat this out and only got one now that it rotated out of standard. Good card. Shouldn't have slept on it.
Backup Plan is the second card that I included in my unpowered cube at one point, then cut it because it was simply too good. (The first one was Mana Drain.) Not because it was annoying or because it played in a way that I disliked... simply because it was too powerful. It basically was that whoever had the luck of opening it had a noticeably increased chance of winning for the rest of the evening. Maybe it is acceptable in a powered cube that has a dozen more cards of a similar power level. It definitely was too much for my unpowered cube though.
I wish instead of being pure upside, it had some kind of drawback. Like chosing from two hands of 6 cards, for example.
I don't run any conspiracies, but I want to get some and try them out. I bought some conspiracy 1, but not a lot, and didn't really get any of the draft altering cards that I really thought was fun.
As far as I know, no one really wants them except for cube managers, so the Conspiracies and draft-altering cards are all available dirt-cheap as long as you're not trying to foil them out. I really recommend giving them a shot if your playgroup is down with trying them.

Utter End is an unfortunate victim of poor print timing by WotC. This was a slam dunk include and a really great addition to the Orzhov cube suite, but the very next block gave us Anguished Unmaking. It's a shame, too. This card had some sweet art and a nice promo as well.
Does blowing up Alderaan in Star Wars count as the end of the world? No? I'll give it to the original Independence Day, then. It's funny, lots of action, a little scary and sad in parts. Solid flick.
Utter End is the third-best Vindicate effect now, behind the original and Anguished Unmaking. A cube would have to be pretty big to want all of those plus the other Orzhov staples.
Favorite end of the world fiction is Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Too often these stories are ones of vast political intrigue or whatever, basically written to be made into an action movie, whereas this is a really quiet book about a father and a son.

The Stand is my favorite end of the world book. But then again, it's my favorite book, so it was an easy choice.
I've recently over the last few years gotten into reading more books and I've found that Stephen King is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The Stand was on my 'to read' list, but the sheer length of it was more than a little daunting. I decided to tackle it this past summer. I liked it quite a bit, but it wasn't my favorite of his that I've read so far. I really enjoyed the character interactions, but I hated Abigail, which sucks because she was supposed to be the light side. I just kept wanting her to die. I wasn't necessarily rooting for The Dark Man, but I was really not an Abigail fan.
solid card but as others have said just got outclassed by anguished unmaking so quickly.
favourite books about the end of the world would probably be the walking dead graphic novels if you count those as books and if you count those as "end of the world" haha
I run this, but I think it's because I haven't picked up Anguished Unmaking. Black and White can gain so much life accidentally in my cube that the pay 3 life is nothing. Still a staple in my cube though.
A Canticle for Leibowitz is my favorite book about the end of the world.
I don't see much space for it since Anguished Unmaking and Vindicate exist, and even old Vindy isn't even all that expensive anymore thanks to the reprintings and whatnot. Wouldn't be bad for a massive, or extremely budget.
I don't really much care for apocalyptic themed books or movies.
I play Utter End in my cube for two years now. The card is fine, never amazing, but it just do the job so efficiently. I don't have Vindicate in my cube and it may sound wierd but I like Utter End more. Exiling and Instant speed are keys.
Utter End is good but you can't pay 4 for a straight 1-for-1 removal spell. I'd still run it in large cubes because it is the third-best Vindicate.
I'll second (or maybe third, at this point The Stand. I'm also a big fan of the Chris Cornell song "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" (and of Cornell in general).
Even before Anguished Unmaking was printed, I didn't have any interest in cubing Utter End because 4 mana is just too much to pay for spot removal, especially since white already has access to so many Oblivion Ring variants.
If you really want to have trouble sleeping at night, check out the 1983 TV movie The Day After, the movie about humanity picking up the pieces after a nuclear war that even convinced Ronald Reagan to try harder to bring the Cold War to a peaceful conclusion.

Utter End is a fine card. Sure, 4 mana is a lot for spot removal, but I like the flexibility and the instant speed and exiling is a nice bonus that can be very relevant in a few situations. However, Anguished Unmaking is just a tiny bit better and I won't be running both (and also Vindicate) in a 5 card guild section, so it is no longer in my cube.
BONUS:
- Does The Matrix count as an end of the world movie? I would say so. Humanity and its civilisation have fallen, after all. Anyway, it is my favorite movie of that type.
- I guess my favorite end of the world video game is The Last of Us.
- World War Z is my favorite end of the world book. And I really mean the book, not that awful movie (which is completely different from the book)! It is a very good (and also a bit different) take on the zombie apocalypse.
- My favorite end of the world show is From the New World. Again, if that one counts. It is a bit out there and quite different from your typical postapocalyptic (or apocalyptic) story. But that is what makes it so great. It is really unusual and intriguing and it does begin with scenes showing the beginning of the end and the overall show is about the communities of a vastly reduced humanity living in a changed world, long after the fall of our current civilisation.
- Last but definitely not least, is my favorite end of the world comic - and my overall favorite end of the world story: BPRD. What pushes this story to the top for me is how slow the apocalypse is. In most stories, the fall of humanity happens in several weeks or even days. Here, it takes years. And yet it clear that the end is coming and that humanity is already witnessing the apocalypse, even though most people can still live they usual lives. What also makes it interesting is that while there is one source of the apocalypse, the way it happens is very multifaceted. And while the humans are winning most of the individual battles, it has become clear that they are losing the overall war.
...
Are people actually playing with Pacifism? Even when my cube was young and unrefined, I didn't run this card. If you want to run an effect like this, better run Temporal Isolation. Or Faith's Fetters as a more expensive option.
BONUS: Visited some friends yesterday to play some games and to watch a movie. We concluded the evening with funny and cute animal videos on youtube. That made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
For me, a staple card, a staple effect and Akroma art all the way (in modern frame, thanks to Duel Deck Demonic vs Divine). I guess powered cubes that are less creature centric don't need to run it? I don't remember ever encountering it in either MTGO cube.
I honestly don't know when's the last time I felt a little warm and fuzzy inside. That's actually a little sad...

My cube is both unpowered and creature-centric (though traditional high power) and I have never felt the need to run Pacifism. There are just so many better options out there. If I would run it, I would definitely run the version from the original DvD duel deck though.
This was a random selection from Cubetutor Average 720, so quite a few people are running it, even if they're not posting about their cubes here on MTGS. It's a bit surprising to see it there, in a list with the entire Power 9, and I have a really hard time imagining it being run in the same cube as Time Walk.
I guess powered cubes that are less creature centric don't need to run it?
Temporal Isolation is definitely the more powerful card, but I'm actually considering cutting it from my Peasant cube for Pacifism to make it a bit more new player friendly. In early drafts of my Peasant cube TI actually wheeled to me, and not because white was particularly open. It turned out people didn't really realize it was removal at first glance. Pacifism is an iconic retail Limited staple, and even if someone's never seen it before it's much more obvious what it does.
If you run Pacifism, I don't think you can go wrong with any version, the art and flavor text are great on all of them. If I make the swap in my Peasant cube, though, it'll be for the DTK version because the flavor text is hilarious.
My older cat, Q, makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside pretty much every time he sits on my lap and purrs. When we adopted him, he was a stray that was about 6 months old, and had been passed around to a few different homes, so we were at least the 3rd home he'd lived in during his very short life. He had all kinds of behavioral problems in no small part because he didn't really trust humans, but my wife and I worked with him and trained him, and now he's very loving and affectionate in a way that's extra special because of how far he's come.
