While I generally agree with this ranking, I don't think 2-powered aggressive 1-drops should be compared with Gargadon / Lavamancer / Goblin Welder since they're entirely different cards with different applications.
I agree. To say that Goblin Guide is better than Goblin Welder is a matter of context and is situational depending on the cube, the archetypes it supports, the draft and the deck being drafted. In a vacuum, I'd say Goblin Welder is somewhere near the top as far as power level is concerned. That card does some serious work in the right deck. With that said, though, if I were to build a new cube, I think this would probably be my order of inclusion.
I'd say Foundry Street Denizen is worse then Goblin Cohort and Mogg Conscripts. If your aggro decks go wide usually instead of packing lots of burn they're pretty solid creatures actually, easily attacking the first 4 turns.
That makes sense. I hadn't thought about those two creatures. I don't know that my cube will ever be big enough for twenty 1-drops, but this is good to keep in mind for those with very very large lists.
The PDS:Fire & Lightning copy of Jackal Pup is in my peasant cube. My 7yo likes it because it's a dog and it's shiny, but he refuses to deck it because he hasn't figured out why anyone would run cards that hurt you yet.
We don't have a dog, but we tend to dog-sit my brother-in-law's dog when he's off on holidays. He's currently rocking a three-month old black labradoodle that has just finished obedience school. My kids can't get enough of him.
Jackal Pup is a card I run out of necessity, not love. Though I do love the art. Someday we're going to get enough 2 power creatures for R that we can cut this card.
My buddy in high school always said that life sucks, so get a dog. I did, and now life's great.

Sadly, Jackal Pup has been outclassed by many other aggressive red 1 drops. It's still strong, and a MTG classic, so if anyone runs it, I wouldn't question it. Despite buying a lot of tempest back when I started, I never cracked one of these guys. The realization of how bad a lot of my early pack cracks were kinda haunts me to this day. Original art is far superior to the fire/lightning art. Some cards can have nice, pleasant art, wahtzee. You used to understand that.
I have a 6 month old rottie puppy. He's an idiot, but he's cute.
Psychatog is one of those cards that can just win you the game if not answered immediately. Instant classic, as when it was printed was effectively immune to red and black removal, while white removal was incredibly sparse, and blue could only delay it. Not quite as strong in the cube, as removal is much stronger, but still a potential grand slam waiting to happen on a moment's notice.
And the only thing I would want a new atog to eat is planeswalkers. We have one that eats forests, a couple that eat enchantments, four that eat artifacts, a few that eat lands, turns, hand/graveyards, other atogs, it's time for one that munches walkers. Sure, it would put the "story" through all sorts of hell, but the lols would be worth it.
Works well in reanimator as a discard outlet, and control as an efficient roadblock that can crash in for big damage out of nowhere. Sick combo with Upheaval. Also pairs will with big draw effects to deal surprise lethal. The opponent has to leave more than one blocker back to not just die outright to the 'Tog and a single removal spell on a lot of boards, and it's very easy to cast and protect at the same time because its CMC is low. It's still one of my favorite Dimir cards for the cube.
Psychatog has one of the only combinations of 'Tog-like abilities that can actually create a cube-worthy creature. So I'm not sure what I'd like to see a new 'Tog "eat" and have it be good enough for the cube. Something to do with discarding cards and sacrificing lands I'm sure.
It's OK, but has felt underwhelming for a while. Obviously insane with some cards, but there are other dimir cards I'd rather run.
One that eats your own life and gives your opponent life for bonuses. There are prob lots of gameplay issues with using life as a resource--both your own and giving it back to your opponent--but it would be neat.
I just like UB reanimate too much to dismiss Psychatog. Besides, it's not like Dimir is stacked or has received anything new since Dragonlord Silumgar. Infiltrator? Ashiok? Duskmantle? Far/Away? I'd rather keep the 'Tog.
-
Eldratog - colorless, eats card in exile. Original card do not steal.
Psychatog is extremely versatile and massively underrated, I added him to my cube about a year ago and never looked back. Fits like a glove in Reanimator / Upheaval / Recurring Nightmare decks, and is a stat monster that you can play late game and keep counter mana up. He's also one of those rare finisher / discard outlets that you can play in an Oath / Reanimator hybrid deck, which is difficult to pull off since Oath discourages you from not playing creature based discard outlets.
I'd like to see a Greater Gargadon style 'tog that eats permanents.
All the dimir cards are really powerful but sorta niche and I really like that. I don't like psychatogs niche as much as other cards so I don't run it, but the top of dimir could all easily be jumbled, though this is making me second guess the strix, as it's really the only uninteresting dimir option.

Strix is the only staple to me, and is really interesting as it slots into a lot of different archetypes and can perform different roles in all of those decks. Control, tempo, artifact shells, blink decks...really any deck that has UB will probably want strix. I think Baleful Strix is the best Dimir spell by a mile.
I have not played with Psyhchatog but it looks really cool and has tons of synergies.
I loved atog creatures back in the day. I would like to see an atog hydra variant that gets +1/+1 counters for eating your own permanents. Maybe 2GG for a 3/3 with trample?
Psychatog's still hanging in there for me. It's definitely not my preferred finisher in black or blue most of the time, but it's a great discard outlet and Dimir is a great pair for reanimation, and since it's so cheap it's easy to cast and hold up countermagic, so does pretty nicely in tempo decks, which can use a place to toss excess lands in the later game.
I like the idea of a Countertog, an atog that can eat counters for some kind of bonus, +1/+1 counters, PW loyalty counters, energy counters, poison counters.... you name it. I dig the idea of an atog that can eat any kind of permanent, you could call it the Omnitog!

If I had a spot for a 4th dimid card Psychatog would probably be it, or If I wasn't trying to push the artifact deck, I could trade him out for tezzeret.
I also like the eat counters idea, but there would probably be to many broken things with things like kitchen finks, on the other hand, if it was done properly, it could probably create some cool interactions though.
Dredgeatog 1BB
Creature - Atog (U) R, sacrifice a permanent: Dredgeatog gets +1/+1 until end of turn. G, put the top card of your library into your graveyard: Dredgeatog gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
2/1
That card should be w/o the mana costs, since 'togs never(?) ask for a mana cost, just the sacrifice. Those are both black abilities/traits, and with the activation cost is more reminiscent of a battlemage.

Fair point, and I figured I was missing one; still, I think you could get away with this guy being mono black since the colored abilities are not distinctly/only traits of that color.
EDIT: You'd prob still need a mana cost for the self-mill ability so it won't be broken AF, even if it's B
For some reason Psychatog was never picked in my cube. So I think my playgroup hasn't seen its power yet.
But every cube owner has good things to say about him, so I just let him stay in my Dimir section.
A great toolbox card for GGx decks. Tutors up mana dorks for acceleration, monkeys for disruption, and ultimately closers in the late game.
My favorite targets are either the prime mana dorks (Rofellos, Hierarch) or my premium value critters (Witness, Nissa). But it's also great to get answer cards with it (Sage, Ooze, Etc).
I like it. Early game it grabs a mana dork and has a chance of getting cast a second time, Mid game it gets a silver bullet or anwser, late game it grabs your finisher or choice.
It can be a lot of fun in G/u decks where you can tutor or dig for Green Suns Zenith making its shuffle cause more use full.
I like to grab Sylvan Safekeeper if I already have a threat to protect, Simic Sky Swallower is fun as a big fatty in colours set up well to abuse the shuffle clause.
I love playing decks with GSZ / Natural Order, tutoring creatures into play is so good. Versatility is never overrated, GSZ ramps you early game, value mid game, and a finisher late game. Shuffling into your library is also a nice clause (that is often forgotten, lol). The shuffle clause can actually be a drawback though since green is the color of Regrowth effects.
Primeval Titan is my favorite green creature. The raw card advantage and the ability to search for manlands is very strong, especially against control, which is midrange's worst matchup.
Green Sun's Zenith slots wonderfully into green ramp decks, acting as a ramp spell, answer card, and a finisher. Getting to shuffle it back in makes it never feel like you're "using it up" either, which is often the case for instants and sorceries in a singleton format. In a deck with Sylvan Library, having the extra shuffle effect is often really handy, too.
I don't mind the art on GSZ, but since it's seen 3 printings including and FTV reprint, I've always thought it's a bit strange that there isn't another choice of arts.
My favorite GSZ targets are Acidic Slime and Woodfall Primus, there's pretty much always something important to be answered by either, and they're both such great value.
