Supposedly this is a 2/1 for R that gives all other vampires you own outside of the battlefield madness equal to its casting cost and has no drawback. If that's true, instant slam dunk for all cube sizes.
Yup, no cube is small enough that it would turn down a 2/1 for R with no drawbacks (and this guy has basically no upside - that ability is absurdly narrow).
Or something along those lines. And I can confirm that it is indeed a 2/1 that gives all your vampires outside of the battlefield madness with cost equal to its casting cost.
(and this guy has basically no upside - that ability is absurdly narrow).
I don't think that ability is as narrow as you think. This guy works very well with Oona's Prowler / Heir of Falkenrath.
Here's a list of every Vampire in my cube
- Mirror Entity
- Stromkirk Noble
- Vampire Lacerator
- Heir of Falkenrath
- Bloodghast (doesn't really need it though, lol)
- Vampire Hexmage
- Drana, Liberator of Malakir
- Vampire Nighthawk
- Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
- Falkenrath Aristocrat
- Duskmantle Seer
This guy has Blood-Chin Rager syndrome where a majority of the tribe he's trying to support is in a different color.
(and this guy has basically no upside - that ability is absurdly narrow).

Really only Heir. If you're discarding something to your own Prowler, you might as well have just cast it without madness in the first place unless you want to give it pseudo-flash or something. There's some incidental upside with opposing discard spells, but you'll not often get to control the timing there.
This also works extraordinarily well against Oona's Prowler.
Opponent attacks with her, and you discard Drana, Liberator of Malakir to have it come down as a 2/3 flash, first strike, flying blocker that eats something. Probably Oona's Prowler herself.

Pseudo-flash is pretty cool if it lets me hold up a burn / removal spell. It also works as a combat trick, flashing in Kalitas before blockers declared is pretty dope.
It makes sense that after Theros, Tarkir and Zen2 saw WotC giving all those one drops to Black and White, they'd eventually (finally)( get around to doing so with Red. (Yes Zurgo exists, but he's not enough... not nearly enough.)
My question is whether we'll get a playable one-drop at common or uncommon.

There just aren't that many discard outlets that an aggro deck, where this guy shines, would want to play.
Edit - If this ability came up more than once in 30 games on average, I would be shocked.
Wow this card is amazing!
But also, it marks a new era for cubes - an era where Wizards are willing to print [mana]r[/mana 2/1 creatures with upsides and no drawbacks.

You get crazy value with faithless looting and liliana. Also, dropping oona's prowler and then getting to play threats eot is nifty.
I'm over the moon with this card. It's a 2/1 for R with no drawbacks, which is amazing in its own right - and, it's a madness enabler! Since a card with madness has to be good enough even without the madness to be included in cube, I was hoping to see at least one card like this. And here it is!
Sure, the madness effect is kind of narrow, but it'll definitely be relevant from time to time, and the card it's on is very strong even without it.
One thing I will say about this new vampire is that I love cards like this that have strong enough stats on their own to warrant cube play but have an extremely narrow ability tacked on. It makes for great games when a player is able to utilize the extra text or even abuse it a bit.
I think I will take the easy solution this time and cut Jackal Pup. I think time have run from this card, as Aggro vs Aggro is too common for it to shine these days.
Staple aggro beater is a staple. Shocker. Still needed more in red, so this will go in straight away. Pup is nowhere near the bottom of the 1-drop list in red, so I don't think that it's a good cut even if you're removing another 1-drop for this guy.

Anybody able to translate the name of the card?

So, you'd rather cut one of Goblin Glory Chaser, Monastery Swiftspear, Reckless Waif or Stromkirk Noble and not the Pup? Which one?
