I have an 810 cube, so ill try any equipment that has potential. Ive been testing Champion's Helm and this looks slightly better to me. I like equipment that is 1 to equip.
Hmm, one of my playgroup raise the point of why he like this card better than Bonesplitter. It's 2 power spread across 2 body so there's more chance the attack will connect. But then again, you lose the ability to trade with bigger toughness creature. I'm not quite sure which one is better myself now.
I just don't like the fact that the token has to to be put onto the battlefield attacking. If it wasn't it would ensure some kind of infinite looping with it. In most case, I think the token would just be blocked and kill on the spot without having any impact. Maybe combine with some emblems or ways to buff it...
Maybe I am overestimating the impact and prevalence of this issue, but it is still an issue. The tokens would have a higher life expectancy if they weren't put onto the battlefield attacking.
I guess I will test this card, but my gut reaction is negative.
They would, but the card would also apply a lot less pressure at that point. I think it would need to provide +2/+0 if the tokens weren't attacking. Sometimes they'll just get blocked, but when the board is open OR they can't be blocked for free OR the block on the token allows another body to get through ...you'll be really happy to have the extra body in the red zone.
For some reason, I did unintentionally skip this post. And what Salmo is saying in it is interesting. But I'm still a bit skeptical. If your equiped attacking dude is big enough to not being simply eaten on the board, then yes, maybe it's not that much a issue. Although, I'm still ain't sure about it. Tempo decks that use evasive creatures is a good example of the point I'm trying to bring. In those decks, your opponent is alteady having problem blocking your treats because most of them have evasion, so it's more likely that your extra token gets eat on the spot. I found it testable at least, but I'm just not convince for now.
Evasion is a good point. If you're attacking with a flying Spirit token wearing Captain's Claws into a bear, the Kor Ally token gets eaten. In general attacking with any evasive creature that they can't block into anything with more than 1 toughness, that token gets eaten. Sure, that's a situation I want to be in, but I'm not necessarily winning at this point. Bonesplitter would get more damage through despite being cheaper. The question remains how often the token will survive. (Just sayin', I actually have good hopes that it may survive often enough).
In any/all the situations where it doesn't immediately get eaten, I think the value it provides is much higher than one extra point of power on your attacker would've been. Just think about how often Goblin Rabblemaster can get in for extra damage even though the creature has to attack. If free 1/1 attacking tokens were always being eaten, Rabblemaster would be a pretty bad card. But there are enough situations where they don't just immediately die that the ability is quite strong.
I'm in no way suggesting that Claws is a Rabblemaster quality card, but you can see the way that card's token making/attacking ability works to see how to evaluate the token part of Claws.
Played a match with this card yesterday in a BR agro shell against a WBG midrange deck. I was running Blinkmoth Nexus which was really good with this card as I could hop over the top and still get a body on the ground. I had Goblin Bombardment so I was able to just sac the tokens for damage. The tokens would have just gotten eat though had I not had the sac outlet. There was also a game where he had a Jitte equipped so I didn't want to attack with my evasive beaters and create a token they could chump block. The games definitely didn't allow Claws to shine, but they do serve to illustrate board states where the claws aren't super effective. My deck sucked too, so that didn't help things.
My cube doesn't run swords at the moment, so I'm always on the look out for alternate equipment that might be good enough. I'm certainly going to give it a try the next time we play. (My cube is also slightly lower power level than the standard rare cube.)
It's been pretty sweet! Build your own Rabblemaster is cool. Don't know if it cracks cubes under 540, but we're happy with it.
You're tempting me to put it in my EDH cube. More equipment support is always needed and the token support has always been a bit anemic. Hmm... The problem is that a random 1/1 a turn is kinda mediocre in EDH. Not sure about it.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
My group has decided that it's either Claws or Sword of the Animist for my cube. Right now we are running Sword (find those Wastes!) but I could see us going back to Claws fairly easily as I feel they are pretty similar in power level.

Yeah, that's it, isn't it? It's a card that technically looks good for my cube but in practice really doesn't gel well with the format.
I'll add it to my list of cards I use when some smartass sarcastically asks "what isn't good in EDH" in the rumor mill.
