Not destroying lands pretty solidly takes this out of the realm of Aggro. Cataclysm was great in part because it was so flexible. As aggro, you could use it as another Geddon effect to seal the deal, and as Midrange/Control, you could use it to stabilize after landing one decent threat.
This fills the latter role, and does it a little better because you can force your opponent to keep their worst options, but for the most part this is a bad Wrath effect and at five mana.

Yeah, it really needs to hit lands too. This isn't a bad card, but I don't want to pay 5 for it, and I don't want to cube with it, if it's not going to blow up some lands.
I had to re-read this card like 8 times for me to understand exactly what it did.
My first 5 reads or so, i thought it said you could choose any non-land permanent type (not just the ones they control). Realized that card was way too busted, so kept re-reading it and re-reading it till I found the contingency heh. Then I found it and got sad
It's very hard to evaluate how strong this card is, but don't think the situations when it's a crazy blowout will happen often enough.
IE let them keep an oblivion ring, blow up their creatures, artifacts and planeswalkers.
You lose a couple signets, but keep a full board prescence of creatures.
I'd expect this to be pretty bad on average. They get to keep the worst of each permanent type they control, but the worst planeswalker is still a planeswalker, and the worst creature is often still a threat. This is only any good if they have many of the same type and you don't.

It would be better if that's what the card did, but it's not. As it is, if they have A creature and An artifact, they get to keep both. Just like Cataclysm, but you get to choose what's kept. Which sounds great, except it costs more mana and no longer disrupts their lands.
It's a very cool card, and it's easy to imagine lots of situations where you leave your opponent with 1 or 2 or their worst permanents while you keep your 4 best, but those situations will be few and far between in cube.
This card is going to be nutso in normal limited though.
First reading: Wow, I never expected them to print a Cataclysm variant! I am so hyped!
Second reading: Yep, I am sure that being able to choose what your opponent keeps is worth 1 extra mana.
Third reading: Wait, it doesn't affect lands at all? Noooo!

Jesus, don't know why I can't process this card. Yeah haha misread it again wtf
Yeah, for a card that's not all that hard to understand once you grasp it, it's a bit of a mess to read the first time.
I took Balance out of my cube for being a bit overpowered relative to what's currently in. I was hoping this might be a suitable replacement to still have that same kind of effect, but as others have said I just don't think it's good enough.
Confusing, but not all that useful when you get down to it. I would preferentially run a Cataclysm or Terminus or something although this will occasionally make a total blow-out.
It doesn't technically deal with "multiple planeswalkers" unless they have THREE in play at once. And then they still get to keep one. Still seems bad to me.
I like this as a multiplayer card but not for 1v1. Time really hasn't changed anything about Tragic Arrogance, except now it has Fumigate to compete with.
Interesting Cataclysm-like effect; cool that you get to choose. I imagine not good enough for small cubes but maybe for larger? Thoughts?
