What do you guys thinks about this dude at Sphinx's Revelation or Narset Transcendent spot in cube?

I already tested it in the past but I was also wongering what was the general feeling about it. Personnally, I think its a nice aggro/tempo card and its great against midrange. In a 5-cards-per-guild's cube, I definitly think deserves a strong mention. Azorius is not that powerful as a cube guild and, back then, I found this little bird to be quite original as a option to boost it. Sphinx, and then Narset, was in at his spot but I'm actually reconsider it.

No way I'd play this over Sphinx. Maybe Narset.

It was a good option before Azorius had good options. Now it doesn't even remotely stack up.

That being said, it may be better than Narset still...

This card is not unreasonable and I could see it work as a 5th UW card, although I like Lyev Skyknight a little better in that slot (I cut it recently when I went down to 600, but it was almost always maindecked when I played it). I don't think I would run it over Sphinx's Revelation, but...

Yep. A ham sandwich is probably better than Narset.

I'm playtesting Narset right now and she's not that great, that's a fact.

But I find Sphinx a bit slow actually and I may be welling to boost tempo a bit by including the bird. IDK.

I'm actually about to test Azorius Guildmage in the Narset slot after the planeswalker disappointed the last few cube session. The guildmage has likely improved over the years since it was last in my cube as planeswalkers are everywhere and it's a reasonable tool against them, while also serving well against fetchlands, fatties, and as something to do with your mana when the game goes long. Not to mention being pretty nice with Master of Waves and Thassa, God of the Sea.

Let me know how it plays out. I've always been interested in it but it seemed like it was mainly for the white ability and the blue one as a secondary. As you said, that's probably changed now with more PWs, etc.

It plays really well in my all multicolored cube =D

I mean, it's on-curve power wise (3 power flyer that costs 3 mana), can upgrade your early drops, downgrade their big guys, and plays well with your own +1/+1 counters and other similar effects. The problem is, it's super fragile and a bit slow, and doesn't fit in any deck but UW tempo/flyers. I think it's probably better than Narset and worse than sphinx's.

I agree that post-Innistrad, that card doesn't look that great. But it is not that bad either. How would you actually rank in the guild? Like the 7th or 8th best card?

Azorius Guildmage has always been in my cube since day 1. Add to the fact that more and more walkers will be printed in the future, the stock keeps rising. If anything, it also helps with blue devotion.

As for the Aven, even if it suited the UW flier strategy, there're a few other cards ahead of it. It really depends on the strategy one wants for his Azorius section. For me personally I'm going more "blink"
