Purphoros, God of the Forge has been one of my favorite red cards released in the last couple of sets. Is a weaker but cheaper version of him going to make the cut? I'm going to test this one given how well Purphoros has been doing.

Yeah, this one stood out for me too. I just think it is a little too weak. Sure we mainly use Purphoros for his etb trigger ability but the threat of a huge god and the mass pump really make the whole package worth it.

This card seems pretty meh. I like Purphoros because even when you're not playing creatures he can pump the team, he's really hard to remove, and he'll randomly turn into a 6/5. This is just kinda meh for me, if I'm not consistently playing creatures it's a pile of crap. Easy pass.

Pass for me as well. I'd rather play a creature on turn 2 in my decks that run a lot of creatures.

I really like the decks that Purphoros can enable and I've been eyeing Outpost Siege as another variant of this effect lately. This new card here is cheaper and mirrors Purphoros's effect more closely, but 1 damage instead of 2 is a huge downgrade. It's not that hard to kill someone with Purphoros, but with only half the damage output, you really need to go off. It is on my test list, but I don't expect it to stick.

Did anyone test this card? I recently added Purphoros and increased my red token creation count. I started looking for a redundant Purphoros effect and came across this (also already running Goblin Bombardment).

Seems like something that would be nice in a pauper cube, especially with a token theme. Beyond that, I'm not sure it gets there. The two cards you're playing are better.

Tested it. Just not enough Ooomph for a traditional cube. Needs to do 2 damage for 2R. Or have cycling, because it absolutely sucks to draw this late. Outpost Siege was more popular than this.

Sweet, that's good to know, I added it in my last updates but haven't had a chance to play since then.
