Obvious inclusion is obvious. I won't be cutting Jackal Pup to the chagrin of one of my players, but watching this thread with interest in others' cuts.
Mono red is solid, but it's hardly oppressive. And yes, this was desperately needed to reach a critical mass of aggro 1-drops for the color, which it was still short on.

The reason mono red isn't oppressive is sometimes it doesn't curve out perfectly. More cards like this allow it to do so.

No, 1) it's not oppressive because it does fair things and 2) good, I want it to curve out perfectly.
Mono red is only oppressive in poor cubes, IMO. If your cube can do bonkers stuff, aggro is good but not oppressive.

Auto-include. My section for R 1-drops is getting crowded. I will need to consult the "This or That" thread once Zurgo comes out. I feel we have a critical mass....and I'm only running Modern Face cards.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.

I don't think you're talking about cube, are you?
I am talking about cube, where mono red is typically one of the best decks in any given Cube.
Not only could we use another red 1-drop, I was actually really hoping for one. Red is only a distant 3rd when it comes to 1-drops, and that's just a shame for such an aggro-centric color. Really stoked to add this one.

I agree with this. Mono Red does fair things very well. For my cube, I want it to curve perfectly. I want it to be the clock that's there to punish being too greedy.
Most cubes are packed with cards that can do excessively unfair things at just about any juncture in the game. These are things that a fair deck just won't be able to deal with or come back from, so their biggest hope is to out tempo them, curve out, and hopefully have an answer here or there to take out a utility creature or combo card before the other deck goes off.
I would think that mono-red cube decks are probably the most consistent type of decks in the format, but not exactly the most powerful or best- unless someone really cranks down the power-level of their cube, really botches the split between mono-green ramp/mono green aggro, and really pushes to remove unfair things and champion incremental advantage. In that world, MAYBE mono red aggro decks are always the best.
But yeah, I know I'll be removing something for Zurgo. Also being costed 1 makes it better for a Zerg rush.
I'm actually excited to get another aggressive red 1 drop near the power level of Goblin Guide since this type of card is so much more first pickable than Firedrinker Satyr. Black and white aggressive creatures are coming down the pipes too, albeit slower than red. It's exciting red has a solid curve nowadays.
Currently monored hasn't been drafted in my cube in a long time, and it's nowhere near the most powerful in my list.
I won't be kicking out any of my 1 drops in red when adding Zurgo.
It has a cute synergy with Mardu Woe-Reaper to combat graveyard recursion.
I am having a slight (major) Cube overhaul at the moment and one of the focuses was Red aggro, specifically one drops...I just bought a Goblin Guide and now he gets an Orcish brother. Smashin' helms and ringin' bells. #nothingsuss
As far as monored is concerned, it usually comes up if we have a larger draft, but that's mostly my fault. I love the deck and if it looks like it's there, I'll put it together every single chance I get. I don't think it's anymore oppressive than the light combo decks (blink shenanigans, pox/stax control decks, reanimator) that come together.
Never thought we would get this one, especially after we got the firebreathing dasher. Love it.
For me I think it is just an add, but if I did bump it might be Jackal Pup, not the swiftspear. Maybe pup is better but I feel Firedrinker Satyr is a better pup and swiftspear is really good in certain decks.

I have to disagree. Red doesn't need more 2 power one drops. The more aggressive red gets, the more oppressive the deck is.

The cool thing about cube is that every new set is only a good thing for us. You don't have to include anything if it's not your style
