Is this good enough for larger cubes? It seems like a nice roadblock against control's weakest matchup, aggro.
Walls have to be pretty good to make it in cube. Wall of Blossoms and Wall of Omens are staples, and Wall of Roots sees plenty of play in many cubes. Is trying to grind out some lifegain over the long game a worthwhile investment? You could also pump it up and attack, since it's technically not a wall, but that seems to be a corner case.
I also think the fact that it's a sheep is a huge plus
In larger cubes, aggro is less of a problem. I don't think that the card is maindeckable - all the other creatures with defender that you can find in cubes either replace themselves or come with an ability that is not exclusively for defensive applications.
The only maindeck application for this card is together with Doran, the Siege Tower, but not in cube.
I'm not sure if I am misreading your post, but this guy doesn't actually have defender, so he can suit up and attack if he needs to.
Not that I think he's cubable, I don't (maybe in C/U cubes). But he's better than if he actually had defender.
I liked the card when I read it, but then realised that I much prefer Perimeter Captain who is basically the same thing for half the cost.
Yep. It's far better. Not only is it half the mana, but it can't be disenchanted either.
Well, captain is worse against burn (as opposed to creatures), does have defender, and has 1 less toughness, but really, neither of these cards are gonna make it in a normal cube. =P
@asmallcat: Sure the card doesn't have defender, but typically 0 power creatures are intended as blockers.
Of course, and as I said I don't think this is close in normal cubes (maybe peasant cubes, which I have 0 experience with), just that it is occasionally relevant when you have a sword and no other creature in play. I was just a little confused by the "all the other creatures with defender" language (of course, the Doran reference immediately after made me think you probably did know it could attack) so I was just clarifying just in case.
Card does have great art though. It'll be great in a terese nielsen cube =P

I use descriptive language. Assume that I'm being nice and respectful. (I'll tell you when I'm not.)
