Enchantment Creature — Demon
Bestow 3BB
Flying
At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life.
Enchanted creature gets +3/+3 and has flying.
3/3
Thoughts on this? I think I'm gonna be slotting him in as Bestow is a powerful ability even if black does not need additional cards that produce self-inflicted damage.
So much beats. He doesn't have Serendib Efreet's easy casting cost or extra toughness but he sure does make your dudes fly and in a more aggressive color.
Black's existing 3 drop creatures aren't particularly spectacular, and this seems like an extremely solid card for aggressive black decks. As a 3/3 flier for 3 it's only mediocre, but being able to grant flying to your creatures with its bestow ability makes it a much more powerful and flexible card. In any cube that supports black aggro, I don't see how you can pass this one up.
If you want to see a mockery of constructive discussion, go check out the Rumor Mill thread about this guy. Apparently, for some people, he's the second coming of Homelands.
I would imagine that this is in the competition for us, as good black 3-drops have always been rather hard to come by. A slightly-better Necrogen Scudder isn't bad at all, and Drake Umbra gets a whole lot better when it doesn't get blown out by removal and always leaves behind a flying 3/3.
Sweet as! I liked Nighthowler as a Bestow 3 drop but this is better. I will play an evasive 3/3 for three all day, and wanted a black aggro three drop.

To be fair, this could be said about just about every card, hahaha.
But yeah, I think I like this guy. A smaller Serendib (granted, with one of the more important toughnesses, especially vs red) but with a huge upside of coming out of nowhere seems worth it.
I certainly like him. I'm hoping we get a cycle of playable bestow rares much like this and Boon Satyr. Part of why I liked Boon Satyr so much was from flash, but flying is also quite powerful. He will get a testing session in my cube, I think.
Welp now im up to 2 probablys and 1 definite yes!
This card fixes all my black problems!. A 5 drop and an aggressive 3 drop. Thank you wizards.
The standard evaluation is painful. Sayin that specter is better?! All specter has is devotion going for it, it would be a nickel without devotion.
The card got my attention as well. A 3/3 flyer for 3 is not bad and bestowing it creates a big "finisher" that protects you from overextending. I have this on my watch list.
I must be the only one that doesn't like it. 5 mana for the bestow effect is a lot in the cube, and 3 power and evasion is featured on a lot of three drops, and not all of them damage you, and some have better casting costs. I don't even play Dauthi Marauder, which I think makes this card look silly.
I'd be interested to hear how this guy plays out for people but at first glance I don't think I'll be playing him. It's a nice body for sure but the bestow cost is a bit steep. I would also run Lifebane before this guy.
3/3 flyer presents a pretty strong clock, and turning a random creature into a must deal with threat AND then back into an evasive threat itself once that creature is dealt with?
Provided with the option?
Id be really surprised if this wasn't a 360-450 staple.
I really enjoy primarily cubing because cards like this get evaluated drastically differently in this format. I think this card is quite good. It has a great body for its cost and is quite flexible as well but the Rumor Mill thread would have a reader thinking that this is complete garbage. My Black 3 drop spot is somewhat weak so I'll be trying this out.
I think this is very solid. I hate 3 drops with one toughness which rule out many black cards others are running. Additionally the value 4 drops like neckratall and skinrender would love to fly over if they are outclassed.

I'm right there with you. Bestow (and creatures for that matter) need to have very aggressive power-to-cost ratios. I like bestow as a concept...whereby your enchant creature spell doesn't suck if the creature dies...but nothing solid has been released. Every bestow cost is overpriced and this thing is no exception. Do I want a vanilla 3/3 flyer for 1BB? I don't think it's the bee's knees. It IS interesting because black 3 drops are nothing special -- I'm just not convinced this is the card I've felt was missing.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.

I'm with ya, man. I might even play Ogre Marauder over this guy. I think Bestow is a sweet mechanic, but I also think it has to be priced highly in order to make it fair, which ends up making even the good Bestow guys not good enough for cube. I don't think this guy is better than any of my current 2, 3, 4, or 5 drops.
Boon Saytr has shown me that 5 mana is a fair bestow cost if I'm getting big enough aura bonus (which also usually means the creature's normal body is probably pretty decent too). I feel like people who are going on and on about "ZOMG Bestow is so overcosted" are doing more theory crafting than actual playing and testing (I'm of course only referring to the creme de la creme of Bestow cards, not the limited filler cards). I'm not saying the card is necessarily a slam dunk, it very much depends on the composition of your black section for example, but the card shouldn't be dismissed outright.

You prefer Ogre Marauder with its worse evasion, less toughness and no secondary Bestow mode? C'mon man this has to be hyperbole.

Boon Satyr has yet to be cast for his Bestow cost and will likely come out with the next solid green three drop that we see. So I don't think I'm theory crafting. Bestow is a sweet mechanic and it's super fun in Theros limited where, no doubt, this guy will be a house. The only reason I think Satyr made it in is because he has the surprise factor going for him. He's a solid dude, a good buff, and in a pinch he's a decent removal spell in a color that doesn't get removal spells.

I meant no hyperbole and maybe if I were still running either of the Marauders, I'd want to at least have a discussion with my group about Herald and which they thought was better. I might even put him in that slot to see just how good he really is, but I'm not running either of those guys and Herald doesn't come close to any of my current three drops.
black does nothing turn 5, this is a black 5 drop sometimes. I feel like the bestow is being underrated.
As a 3/3 flyer for three its on par with other options, lifeloss is kind of insignificant, but because it has that second mode, that does something pretty reasonable at the 5 slot i think it warrants a testing.

I used to write cube articles on StarCityGames, now for GatheringMagic and podcast about cube (w/Antknee42.)
I can't decide if I like this guy's beefier toughness to Lifebane's discard / peek ability... I'm wondering if I should just find a slot for him.
