Well, Bonfire would kill my tokens, for now, but Norn's 7 toughness is pretty safe, lol. Then I just make 3 more tokens on the next turn.
Doesn't Bonfire also take Elspeth, though? But wow, you're right that Elesh Norn's big behind just laughs off a full Bonfire on curve! I haven't played against her in a while. That's terrifying. You'd have to bonfire for 5 to Elspeth's face, then burn to finish Norn off... and that's just to come out even.
I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
I think it's expendable. It's pretty much never cast for 3, which is the whole reason people put it in their cubes. If you explicitly support tokens its stock is higher of course. It's still a good deal at 4 mana... Just not a great deal.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I played this card in a standard fnm last night, and she's disgustingly powerful. I know she already looks powerful, but in practice she's even better. I think she's easily a staple.
I don't know if this is still a thing, but this card is probably better than most the 6 drops in white other than Sun Titan. If you're still running Yosei, I like Elspeth better.
Picked one up in a pack. Surprisingly her minus ability is awesome when she hits late game. As discussed, the 1/1s are great chumchange while you build up to her ultimate.
Elspeth has been fantastic for us so far, able to turn losing games around. She’s been an absolute house of a finisher and without evasive guys with 2-3 power, she’s been near impossible to deal with.
For anyone currently not running her, I suggest you proxy one in and try her out... no matter your cube size.
The one time she was played, she was unable to stop the player from losing. However, I'd say that's a small sample size and the card warrants more testing.
ESC has had its first real competition printed in The Eternal Wanderer. I'm curious how they stand up to comparison, now that it's been a while since the card's release.
I admittedly haven't had a lot of chances of playing with either lately, so I sadly don't have much to contribute.
It's 2024. How does Elspeth, Sun's Champion hold up in powered Vintage Cubes today? At what size Cube would you play Elspeth?
I was wrong on this Elspeth when it first came out, but it absolutely justified its 6 CMC cost and was a staple for years.
HOWEVER, I recently cut it when I trimmed my list down to 375 and I don't particularly miss it. We're sort of at the point now where 6 mana plays need to basically win the game on their own and with so many evasive threats and efficient PW kill spells now, even getting 3 soldiers off elspeth only to have her die to a 2 or 3 cmc instant still feels like you're worse off in the exchange.
Still a strong card, but cuttable now IMO. I think 4 years ago I would have said it's insane to cut her.

Why would you cut Spectral? Card is literally insane + builds synergy with any Elspeth, especially 3.

Please don't cut Spectral Procession. That card is crazy good.
