I think Elspeth outclasses Sun Titan pretty hard. For us, Sun Titan's floor is the lowest of the titans and doesn't exactly have a high ceiling. Luckily I run a large cube so I can fit both and will be replacing Elspeth Tirel with Sun's Champion.
Agree about the lowest floor for a titan (which doesnt say much) , but I disagree about the ceiling. it has a really high upside and encourages synergistic deck building more so than any other titan...
Just last week I sun titaned into phantasmal image (turning into sun titan) into strip mine recursion.
Id say thats a pretty high ceiling =P
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Ya, Sun Titan has the worst WCS, but easily one of the best BCS of all the Titans. Because of that, it lands right in the middle of the Titans, and is my 3rd favorite one for the cube. Being able to attack and block with a 6/6 is backbreaking.
I think Elspeth is amazing, but I really don't see cutting Sun Titan for her. Sun Titan is the tits. I have no idea what to cut for her.
I'll probably end up cutting Ajani, Caller of the Pride. I know, not the same type of card, doesn't go in the same decks, different casting cost, etc. But Ajani hasn't really done much even for aggressive decks.
I wouldn't cut any of those three for her. Not even close, actually.
I'd see if there's something you can squeeze out from another spot in the curve, or simply pass on her until it's an effect you'll want as a part of your composition in the future.
Sun Titan is a total baller, and I don't think the new Elspeth is close to it in powerlevel.
Agreed, plus the titan is a creature which makes it way more versatile. Elspeth is good but I will always pick a creature finisher to help reanimator and other cheat strategies. Which means just Elesh Norn and of course the Titan for me, but Elspeth would be the next one down. It's really strong.
I think I'm gonna try her in place of Catastrophe. Catastrophe can seal the deal when you're ahead or reset the board when you're behind, but I suspect that Elspeth will be more useful in average board states and will be drafted higher overall.
Catastrophe is very well liked around here and I loved it when my cube was slower, but I ended up cutting it for being too expensive. I think this card is definitely worth the mana.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a pretty cool card. While she may cost a lot and her ultimate feels good but not great to me, though synergistic with her +1, her +1 and -3 are great abilities and are enough for me to want to play her. Having said that, I love Elspeth Tirel way too much and would never cut her for Elspeth 3.0.
What I am thinking of doing however, is cutting Angel of Serenity for her. I never much liked the card and Elspeth 3.0 seems to be much better in most situations.
I would cut the Angel, especially if you are also running Elesh Norn. I'd like to have one really good reanimation/Sneak Attack/ramp target in white. Elespeth is better than the Angel, but the Angel might be more necessary if you aren't running Norn. That said, really cutting Elspeth 2.0 is probably your best move. Another option would be to cut a redundant Wrath effect (not Wrath, DoJ, or Catastrophe).

The Quote function doesn't work for me on this forum. Sorry for any confusion created.

Cut Elspeth Tirel? That one additional mana gives you so much more than what Tiriel offers.

Austere Command or Yosei would be my choice.

This. This is the problem I'm having. I had already cut Tirel. My 6+ sections looks like this:
and I'm not really looking to up my curve in white. I'm not sure what to do.
I'd see if there's something you can squeeze out from another spot in the curve, or simply pass on her until it's an effect you'll want as a part of your composition in the future.

Glancing at your cube,
Id cut degree of justice if you are desperate to keep your average CMC the same and play elspeth.
I doubt cutting a 4 drop for a 6 drop will do much to your curve either.. Seems pretty glutted at 4.

Pretty sure this will be my cut for her. At least that's the spot I'm testing it in for now.

That's so greedy... and hilarious. You're just asking for him to topdeck Bonfire, but otherwise he stares at the board and just cries.
