While this card is not very good, and we certainly won't run it around here I find it pretty strange that a community that to an extent embraces Venser, the Sojourner to completely trash this card. Neither are good, both are sweet in their respective decks and both are fun - but this guy is for sure better.
This Garruk is a cool card with an interesting design. I don't think I'd run it, since you're not really looking to cheat in creatures that cost too much more at that point and a 6 mana card draw engine isn't something I'd be too interested in when compared to other options. The other 6 drops give you a lot of value too, but they can also close out a game on their own.

Comparing a five drop that abuses board assets for immediate gain to a six drop that uses library assets for potential future gain is where your reasoning falls apart, in my opinion.
Additionally, I don't think people really defend Venser PW as a staple, so I don't think the evaluations are that far off.
Venser the 'walks is INFINITELY better than this card. This card says "-3: Conditionally defend itself" while the one-ability-ish Venser generally says "-1: You win the game." No comparison.
I was quite pessimistic about Garruk when he was spoiled but I aggressively test new cards so I threw him in my powered 540. He's not even close to the best green card but he's not the worst either. Whiffing with the + ability can be pretty brutal but getting to cycle through your thinned green deck in a few turns is pretty sweet. I also saw him get played then have the player minus out either a Hornet Queen/Terastodon to protect him. It was pretty nice. It's a totally different planeswalker than any of the other Garruks so he will stay in my Cube for now.
If you run 450 or more & haven't tested him yet then at least give him a test run to see how he plays in your Cube.
I played him for a while. It's good and can take one of the 6-drop spot. But he seems a bit too fair IMO and is certainly the less good Garruk.
Otherwise, he could be just fine. He helps Natural Order's strategy and act like a Harmonize's Planeswalker that can recure. His ultimate is absolutly awesome as well. At the end, cutting him s does make me feel sad when I did few weeks ago but I don't really miss him since. I really needed to find a green spot at that moment and his was use for that. Also, there's just so much Garruk out there and for that reason he could be though to maindeck him sometimes.
At the end, it is not a bad card, but 5 Garruk is too high for me. Could see me bringing in again one day if I get rid of Apex Predator.
EDIT : Oh, and by the way, I think he is better than Baloth as a 6-drop.
I wouldn't worry about shoving him in just because you need a green 6-drop. Just put a better 5 or 7 drop in, it won't affect the balance of your cube much or at all.
I dont think this is true, but I do hear what you are saying.

I dunno, maybe this guy will be way more fun then he looks, but I already have lots of ways to cheat green fatties into play, like Natural Order.
