Garruk, Caller of Beasts 4GG
Planeswalker - Garruk
+1 : Reveal the top 5 cards of your library. Put all creature cards revealed this way into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
-3 : You may put a Green creature card from your hand onto the battlefield.
-7 : You get an emblem with "Whenever you cast a creature spell, you may search your library for a creature card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library."
{4}
Casting him then dropping an Eldrazi or Woodfall Primus is cute, but I think 5-mana Garruk is just better. A 6 mana spell that doesn't affect the board in a topdeck situation is kinda meh.

At least he digs you into gas if you're in topdeck mode.
But yeah, I don't like him. His +1 doesn't directly protect him, his -3 takes a huge amount of his starting loyalty and you're fairly unlikely to have a dude more expensive than 6 to drop in (and no, it can't be an Eldrazi as it's limited to green creatures, unless you're in love with Nest Invader or something :P), and his ult takes too many turns to get to. For a guy coming down for six, Lead the Stampede is not enough.

I'm excited that this will be inexpensive ($$$) for my edh cube
This is true, I will definitely slot him in to my EDH cube, especially when I expand and go up to a third walker per color (I was going to have a hole in Green because Nissa Revane is garbage and Garruk Relentless counts as Golgari).

I will not be testing this unless there is a great outcry from you all that he is the bee's knees. In my cube he has 4 targets that cost more than he does (Primus, Hornet Queen, SSS, and Terastadon - which is on the cusp of being cut). Not worth it in the green ramp deck.
1) There's nothing else worth even considering for green in 6cc beyond Primeval Titan (which I don't run). I've noticed that I often find myself in green ramp stuck on 6 mana with nothing to cast, which is annoying.
2) It's another on-color way to get fatties into play in the Natural Order deck, which could use a bit more consistency.
Yeah, even in my cube which is dropping to 695 cards tonight and leans heavy on green fattys ( I run freakin Wolrdspine Wurm FFS), this isn't good enough, not by a fairly long shot.

Highly doubt this is good enough. In cube, if you want to draw a ton of cards in green for 6, play Prime Speaker Zegana, which will also see more standard play than this Garruk.
Like Killane, I should be more inclined to include this Garruk (I'm more of a Timmy than I like to admit). However, I share eidolon's sentiments exactly.
I'm actually relieved. When I saw this thread I thought, "Damnit! Another Garruk?! I don't want to fit another Garruk in!"
I think people trying to build "the Natural Order deck" aren't thinking about it right. You don't build a natural order deck in cube as much as you build a good green ramp deck that Natural Order goes really well in. The great thing about Natural Order or Tinker is that the shell of the deck they go in already exists and is good without them and they feel like cheating when you actually get them. Blue is closer to having a tinker deck since they have mystical tutor to find tinker but even then its one card and one card that can find that card.
Honestly, as a green deck, you should already be in a position to protect something you cast on turn 5-6, so that's not an issue for me. So it comes down to how often I'm drawing two plus gas cards from this guy, which really would be the bees knees in any creature heavy deck. I'd need Eidolon to do the math though of hitting this on turn 5/6 and being able to draw on average 2 cards from his plus ability 2-3 times consistently. How many creatures would I need to run for that?
Paying 6 mana to put the largest green creature in your hand onto the table along with a PW at 1 loyalty isn't the worst thing you can do. Especially when his +1 is a noticeable effect.
As to whether I would run him or not though, I'd say most likely not but does deserve testing all the same.

I feel pretty much the same, but I don't run Terastodon. That said, the fact that you can cast him and get a creature on the same turn is pretty cool. For six mana, landing Garruk 4.0 and a reasonable creature seems pretty good.
I doubt he's going to knock anyone's socks off in Standard or Modern, so hopefully he'll be cheap. EDH players may drive up the price.
I don't think there are enough big green creatures in the average cube list to take advantage of his -3 reliably. And his ultimate is broken, but takes too long to reach. His +1 should draw you 2 cards in a creature-heavy midrange build, which is really good. But does green want a 6cc draw engine that can be attacked to death? My gut says no.
This is a side issue, but I am also starting to think of how many copies of the same walker I want in my cube (and also how many walkers total). I currently do not limit it, but it seems like it could be an issue soon. Green really needs a non Garruk walker.
When thinking about ot some more, this might be good enough as a draw engine only. A green walker that basically says +1: Draw two-three creatures, seems like it can put some real pressure on your opponents. If they don't kill this you'll swarm them pretty fast. 6 mana is a lot though, so that might be a lot for a 'future sight' like card.
This Garruk looks insane in the almost mono green ramp deck we see all the time in our cube. dropping it turn 4-5 should be par for the course, then either drawing 2-3 cards or dropping something ridiculous to protect him should mean game a lot of the times. I think I like it better than the 5-cost Garruk, which is great but less of a roleplayer.

I have thought about this from time to time, but I stopped when the new rule changes were announced.
As for this guy in Cube, he certainly would never make my 360. Even in 500+ cubes I question his application. Even in a ramp deck I think it is better to go for the extra 2 to Entwine Tooth and Nail or just hardcast your biggies. The fact that it is only green is the deal breaker.
What do you guys think of this guy?
