Now, is it just me, or does this seem a little good?

Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, put a 1/1 red Elemental creature token onto the battlefield.

This one caught my eye as well. I'm mildly concerned about the temptation to make poor plays to ensure "proper" value vs. how much value you can pull from it naturally.
I kind of glimpsed over this the first time around, I saw it but kind of shrugged... Then I realised it's a Goblin Piker that makes tokens in both Mono-Red and UR pretty offensively, while also being on curve with Guttersnipe which I loved. Really Guttersnipe is a pretty awesome card as is, and I think this can make a pretty good addition to the decks that play Snipe, so it will probably make the cut.
I guess my issue was that it's awkward with some of the good UR cards, like Pyroclasm, but that's not the end of the world. Maybe UR won't even need Pyroclam once it has this guy?
Edit: Also the art is terrible on the card, I hope we get a promo with something nicer.
I think this card is pretty strong. Aggressive red decks naturally carry a lot of instants and sorceries via burn, so it could generate a lot of attackers. A turn 3 pyromancer into one of the many one-mana burn spells seems like an extremely strong play. A second point of toughness would be nice, as it dies to everything, but definitely worth testing.
Red 2 drop have gotten the goods lately. I remember the time when it's kind of lacking. I think this is the new card that was spoil so far that had the biggest chance of it making into my cube.
Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
I'm just curious, how many 1/1 tokens do you have to get before playing a vanilla 2/1 for 2 mana is worth it? I don't think this guy is going to have the same exact problem that getting a delver to flip in cube has, but I'm not sure how good he is going to be.

I am really not on the bandwagon for this card. You're looking at getting your first token's attack in on turn 4. At what point in time is this this actually dangerous outside of a christmasland scenario?
I don't think the point is that he's making tokens, but rather that he's aggressive and benefits you for doing what you already want to be doing anyway.
Like it's not uncommon to play 1 drop 2 drop Removal spell in a cube game, and when you're getting extra benefit from the removal spell it's pretty nice. The benefit is also permanent so it's not like Kiln Fiend which is a very "Smoke it if you got it" kind of guy, but rather one where you can play both offense and defense with it if needed.
This is a red two drop that creates card advantage. The only other one of those that anyone even really considers running is fireslinger. I think this will be an exemplary UR tempo/control guy, a great red midrange guy, and a decent aggro drop.
I think at 1 token it's worth it, at two it's nuts. Definitely worth testing.
edit: also worth mentioning is his value in pox/stax decks. casting pox, smallpox, innocent blood, any of the one sided edicts, any LD, etc gives you a token. red is getting more and more tools for this kind of deck. right now you could make it a subtheme of red with this guy, squee, goblin assault, mogg war marshal, siege-gang, etc.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

I'd say he's either going to replace mog war marshal for me or supplement him, not sure which. Since war marshals role was for red pox decks. This guy attacks better than the marshal.

i'd like to report that so far this guy has been pretty awesome, i played him in a boros aggro deck w/ both ravages of war & armageddon. in 1 scenario, i was up against a naya aggro mid-rangy deck & early in the game, my opponent cast a scavenging ooze & swung in w/ his student of warfare, i incinerate'd his ooze & used the created token to trade w/ his student. other games he just kept giving me repeated value, a turn 3 ravages of war off the back of a mox pearl when you've alrdy nuked their 1st 2 mana dorks & have him, a token & another attacker out, is pretty nasty!

I'm confident this guy will find a home in my 360 as well. Best card spoiled in the set so far.
Of course, we are running both of these already so there is a chance we'll test Pyroboy anyway.
If you dont play Kiln Fiend you should try that as well.
