Gold cards are rather narrow: 1/10 2c decks can play it while a hybrid can be played in 7/10 decks. In a small playgroup, gold cards not only become late picks, but can even be a complete blank, with nobody in that color pair.
So I need to add a black card to my black section, but I'm not exactly sure what that card should be. There are a few option I'm torn between because they don't really fill the same roles. Please take a look at my black section and let me know which of these 3 cards you would include if you could only include one.
That's what I was worried about. Does anyone agree or disagree?
I also think Profane Command is too much win not to play.
Depending on which Black archetypes you want to support more you could include Dauthi Horror. I would consider cutting Massacre Wurm or Consuming Vapors for it. Profane Command wins more games then these cards and they are unplayable in decks that like Dauthi Horror.
Profane Command, for sure. I'd probably then cut Massacre Wurm for the Horror (other options are Geralf's Messenger, Fleshbag Marauder, and Contamination).
I was lucky enough in the pre release between my original 6 packs and the 6 pack I won I got a Xanthrid Necromancer, Shadowborn Demon, and a foil Jace. I was thinking of adding either Xanthrid Necromancer or Shadowborn Demon into my cube. Which one would you think is better?
I have fair amount of humans in my cube that could work with the Necromancer. I have around 13 humans in white including Silverblade Paladin, Mirran Crusader, Student of Warfare, Hero of Bladehold, Mentor of the Meek, Precinct Captain and Elite Inquisitor. In red I have at least 7 humans including Kumano, Ash Zealot, Lightning Mauler, Stormblood Berserker and Keldon Marauders. In black and green I have at least 3-4 humans. Blue is the only color where I don't have many humans.
Those numbers are useless when you don't specify the size of your cube.
My cube is around 400 cards. I should have around 30 humans in my cube. I don't know if that is enough to supper the Necromancer. Normally I would rather not have a 2/2 creature for 3 mana unless it does something really spectacular.
I don't know many are playing the Shadowborn Demon. The demon sounds like a better choice than the Necromancer. Where would you rank the Necromancer in comparison the other black 5 drops? My black 5 drop section is already crowed but I could always add an additional black 5 drop.
I don't think the black 5-drop section should be crowded. The Shadowborn Demon is my 3rd favorite black 5cc creature, and there's nothing beyond Shriekmaw and maybe Ob Nix that challenges it for a spot.

What is exactly needed to make the Demon work good in a deck? I see the Demon as something that can get rid of one of your opponents creatures. After this you have to have tokens or other creatures you can sack to him. This shouldn't be problem because black has cards like Bloodghast and Reasembling Skeleton.
Nothing really. Just other cheaper creatures and/or recursive creatures. A 5/6 flying body that murders a creature when it comes into play is good. if you can keep it around for a couple of turns after that, it hits really hard. Occasionally you'll reach 6 in the 'yard, but it's not imperative that you do. Outside of a creature-light hard control deck, it'll play nicely for you.
I've never particularly liked Prophetic Bolt - Impulse + 4 dmg has always felt like it could cost 3 mana and shoudl cost 4 mana, not 5. I want something more exciting in this slot, but have been unimpressed with Niv in the past. Hypersonic Dragon offers a fairly unquire effect and is also a hastry dragon. If he was a 4/5 or even a 3/5 he'd be a slam dunk since he both makes Wildfire better and survives, it, but he has 4 toughness so this doesn't help.
Note sure what to do here. not happy with this guild slot.
The Strix and Tezz are non-negotiable as the cube supports the artifact deck and these cards have both been a HOUSE. I hate this section though, it just feels so bland an unexciting and UB should feel AWESOME. Any thoughts on making it better?

Fully agree on Strix and Tezz. I've recently added in Tezz and he's been a HOUSE as you've said. Either way I'd say Duskmantle Seer is also a non-negotiable.

I understand what you are saying about PBolt, and while we have found it better than you, I still think you have to keep it over those two mediocre beaters that will never get played over mono colored equivalents.
i guess I'll just have to see how Tog plays out. I just feel like it's one of those cards that can get chumped to infinity.
P-Bolt over Dragons eh? Alright, <le sigh>, I guess it is still a 2 for 1 at worst.
They can chump 'Tog, but unless they leave 2+ blockers back all the time, black/blue's suite of bounce/removal can end the game with one spell.
And definitely PBolt over dragons. Not much better at the top of the curve than killing their best threat/walker/doming for 4 and then Impulsing into another high impact spell right before you untap with big mana.
Can you kindly elaborate on this? I'd very much like to know the reason why

I'd move both Far / Away and Recoil to make room for Psychatog and Creeping Tar Pit.
Tar-Pit lives in the lands section in my cube - I don't sort lands in the guild section, so it's already there.
Is Tog actually good anymore? He seems so... 1999 to me.
What about Oona?
What about the Izzet section?
