Agreed and it's not even close. Hypnotic Specter and Huntmaster both provide card advantage, Carrion Feeder and Mina and Denn do not. I ran Carrion Feeder for a little while when I really needed an extra 0 mana sac outlet and it was pretty bad.

Slayer would be my pick. Splashable evasion in black that actually trumps most of the other shadow creatures in the cube.
Splashable? Are you thinking of Dauthi Horror? I would run Horror over both Slayer and Hexmage. I value Hexmage higher than Slayer though, because using your early game beater to kill a planeswalker is good value. Plus, her ability can come in handy in a few other situations, too.
I didn't have great results with Scrivener, too often it was just a Goblin Piker if you couldn't get Hellbent fast enough, but I'd still run it over Fledgling Djinn. As evasive 2-drops go, Dauthi Horror is great. I've also been really enjoying Silumgar Assassin. It's great removal on a stick, and the evasion is often relevant.

I recently acquired a Shambling vent for my cube, and i'm struggling with a cut decision. is the right cut here gerrard's verdict? or am i missing something else?
i only need to cut one card to fit this back into my cube... im thinking verdict? though you recommended two cuts. do you have another WB card that i'm missing that should go there?
Looking for a sweet black aggro 2-drop. How often is Blood Scrivener drawing cards, and would you play it over something like Fledgling Djinn in a cube with a peasant-ish powerlevel?
I think the Scrivener would be fine there. In our experience, it didn't draw enough to be "too good." Though once you get hellbent, it's usually pretty easy to keep getting the extra card (unless you draw two lands or something like that).
The body on Scatter is a bigger advantage than the scry 1, which doesn't really seem worth the 1 mana premium over Counterspell.
That's not a fair comparison though. You always get the scry 1 with Dissolve but you only get the body on scatter if you spend 6 mana for it.
Cancel is probably not worth a slot in most cubes. A six mana counter spell that left a 3/3 animated land is not cubeable IMO either. Combine them together though, and the two options make a decent card (though how good is up for debate). Is that better than cancel + scry 1? Probably, but it's not that far off even if it is. To be fair though, I value scry pretty highly.
