It's the next best black one drop, it provides zombie synergy with Gravecrawler (plus other shenanigans), and it's a sac outlet for Living Death or something.
I liked Carrion Feeder in decks that can take advantage of self recurring creatures. It was decent in aggro Pox shells and the like. It's the tenth best black 1-drop, so take that for what it's worth.
It's gotten better since the printing of cards like Gravecrawler, Blood-soaked Champion, and Ophiomancer, as you can use that recursion. I like it since it's decent enough in aggro and gets really really good when you have an endless chain of creatures to sac that come back.
Black does have access to Thoughtseize/Duress/Inquisition which all make fine turn 1 plays. Perhaps a Sinkhole and/or a Nether Void would do more for your black aggro decks than the next best 1-drop you're not already running would.
I'm with wtwlf on the Putrid Imp > Carrion Feeder statement. They both can play a decent role in aggro, but I do prefer the reanimator upside of the imp to the pox upside of the feeder.
I have played both cards before, both were terrible. They are dead or nearly dead cards if you do not draw your synergy cards, and anyway they do not fill the role of an aggro one drop
Amen. My point was that they're both bad, not that they're both reasonable. I'd never play either of those cards in a generic aggro shell, and they'd only make the final 40 if I was deep into their respective archetypes.

That's precisely how I felt looking at those cards. Thank you.

Putrid Imp isn't even good in reanimator. The only deck it's even borderline in is with Haakon.
Discarding a card is a significant cost. Flying on a 1/1 dork is not worth a card, so without the whole point being to get said card in the yard, this is just garbage.
Carrion Feeder is much better than that. Next to nobody tested Outpost Siege here. It's really good. Try it. Blood Artist? Not in any cubes here. It's crazy. Try it. Goblin Bombardment in the same deck? Completely nuts.
Even without a dedicated sacrifice deck, carrion feeder is playable. It turns all your dudes that were going to die anyway into +1/+1 counters. It's sort of like modular for all creatures not just artifact creatures. No, it' doesn't go in a tight 450 powered list. But depending on what your black section does, it can go in a lot of cubes and be useful.
Feeder is definitely a card for larger cubes, but I don't think it's out of place there. It's a card that I thought was utter garbage for the longest time, but the more I play with it, the more impressed I am. It makes sense that people would think it's garbage and maybe it's over performed for me, but I really mean over performed, as it has gotten pretty damn huge for a 1 drop.

I don't even remotely understand the black section of almost any mtgs listed Cubes (or let me rephrase: I understand it, but I'd just as soon I didn't). Black is the most insular color (other than if you are being argumentative and define Magic history as "blue" and "everything else") . I don't see how Cubes that nominally survey the tradition and history of the game can ignore this simple (and glaring) fact.
In what universe is a non-entity of a card (if it never saw print its absence would barely register as a whimper) like Reaver Drone better than Carrion Feeder? This is especially true in Conspiracy Cubes with Muzio's Preparations and cross color synergies (Ranger of Eos, Academy Rector, Goblin Bombardment,..)

By "insular", I'm taking that to mean you think more cube designers should embrace a mono-black theme?
I think that's a fine argument, but I just don't think it's very much fun to be drafting black devotion if someone else is doing the same. You either end up with an amazing deck or nothing at all.
As for Carrion Feeder, I'm just not that impressed. It requires too much synergism to be outstanding and often ends up being mediocre or dull. Moreover, if you're supporting aggro, a 2/1 for 1CC is always going to do predictable work. When I go to draft aggo in limited, I want reliable, non-contingent aggression.
Reaver Drone is actually playable in a deck without a dedicated sacrifice theme. Carrion Feeder isn't. Including one and not the other is pretty easy to understand.

I have no idea.
Is your cube list somewhere? I'd like to look at it. I feel like I need to steal some ideas from it.
Reaver Drone doesn't require any additional setup to perform. You just need to be in an aggro deck. For Carrion Feeder to be good you need to either have creatures dying for you to sac in response (in which case, they'd probably just kill the Feeder instead), a steady supply of sacrifice fodder, or something recurable to loop with him. I never thought Feeder was terrible, but I do think he's the 10th best option for black 1cc creatures.
Do you think Viscera Seer is better than Carrion Feeder?
I have Carrion in my cube, but that's mainly because of the scarcity of good black aggro 1-drops. The Seer could be an alternative as a sac outlet (not for aggro though).
I like Feeder more as well, because it gets beefy. If I add him to an aggro shell, I'd rather have a creature that gets bigger and hits harder in combat. And also points for being a zombie.
I like Carrion Feeder as well. The investment is just so low and there are lots of upsides and synergies. Zealous Conscripts is my favorite, but I also love Gravecrawler/Bloodsoaked Champion. If anyone ever spends removal on it, chances are you've just gained some tempo. And if they spend removal on your other stuff instead, he just gets bigger and bigger.

It's not. The card was never even really playable for us. Outside of a deep sacrifice theme or a deep zombie theme, I think it's a safe exclusion.
You could try Putrid Imp if you want an extra archetype support 1-drop too. It's an okay reanimation support creature.
