ofcourse it couldn't be destroy target creature with casting cost 2 or less because what would all of our lovely tarmogoyf players think! I think that the restriction of 'power 2 or less' is too big drawback in other formats.
In cube its great though. Kills sower of temptation, hornet queen, deranged hermit, siege gang commander, etc. That's pretty good for something that can also counter tons of powerful cards, screw their draw, or set up reanimation.
This kills a lot of the problem guys for a Dimir based deck. It nabs many of the important mono red 1-2 drops and also gets all mana dorks (just to name a few). The part I like about these modal cards is that they are NEVER useless. At the VERY worst this is a card gets the card you want the most in the top 3 to the top of the library (not good but it's like Vamp tutoring when there is an Aven Mindscensor in play). The counter portion will be more relevant than we think as some of the best spells in cube are sorceries.
Shadowmage, Psychatog, Baleful Strix and Tezzeret definitely rank higher for what I want to do in my Cube (although I'm currently missing the Strix). In my case I'd replace either Agony Warp or Undermine with the charm
I'm only trying to say that this card provides a versatility that disfigure does not. Also this card is able to kill all 2/x creatures which is not irrelevant.
Testing with this has proven well so far. All three modes are really useful. If I don't get 1-2 bomb Dimir cards in this set, I'll be happy to cube this card.
I'll happily run this card over probe. The CA isn't as high, but the variety of very different options is what makes this charm interesting. In consideration for one of my 8 slots.
Unlike with Strategic Planning, You are generating card disadvantage if you are using it on your own library, so the last ability is nowhere near Impulse.
Lets clear this up, the third ability on Dimir Charm is ALWAYS card disadvantage. But can, occasionally, be virtual card advantage. It is always -1 card.
My section is infiltrator, tog, oona, and havengul lich. Oona and lich being crowd favorites of my playgroup. If I can convince my group, I'll likely replace oona, as she rarely gets played anymore anyway, and I still find the lich to be very fun.
With a space for a fifth card that is currently empty.
I am hoping that this block will provide 3 cards to go with Tog & Finkel, as those are the only two that I'm truly happy to run. This charm *may* be one of the three cards. I am looking forward to testing it.
Psychatog
Shadowmage Infiltrator
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Baleful Strix
Dimir Signet
and Forbidden Alchemy (which was in for testing)
I'll be replacing the Alchemy with Dimir Charm and be pretty happy about it. The rest of the section is pretty solid, and I'm not desperate to replace any of them.
I honestly feel this card will end up being a surprise to everyone. It's not going to be a blow out card but it's going to be a card that people are going to like. Being able to kill guys like Meloku while also being able to counter Upheaval is a nice option for me in 1 card.
It's very strong in all three modes IMO. I would absolutely definitely include it at 5 cards deep and maybe at 4. I wouldn't blame anyone for running it even at 3, really. But the spoilers could yet produce some U/B bombs - I wouldn't mind a big finisher for that pair.
It's in order of cube inclusion, according to the amazing work of Eidolon. You're obviously free to rank cards differently, but I think it's an interesting tool to compare new potential inclusion.
Oh I absolutely agree. I wasn't being argumentative I was just curious.
I've never understood the love for psychatog though. Is it mostly historical? Or does he still hold up? I know I cut wild mongrel ages ago, and he never seemed to preform to well when I played him.
Dandy_Lions;9580201']I'll probably be swapping out recoil for it.

There's already a thread for this. I like Psychatog, but he might be better in my cube because I support reanimator, where he is a helpful discard outlet and also gets to feed on the cards that looting effects dump into the graveyard.

I continue to be surprised by the praise people are giving this card. As a removal spell it's weaker than any of the 2-mana black removal spells that are good enough to play (and most of them that aren't); as a counterspell it's very narrow, countering few of the impactful spells in the Cube; and the third mode is only conditionally useful. It's not like Izzet Charm either, which is more than the sum of its parts. It's not what I want from a gold card, especially one in a colour combination as deep as U/B.
It's a worse removal spell, a worse negate, and a worse card selection spell. But it is all 3. And all 3 of those kinds of spells are good in cube. I agree that it's narrow, but it hits very clutch cards. I'm on the fence about including it. My section is likely too small and it may prove less useful than I imagine, so it probably won't even get a chance for me, though I sort of like it.
I don't agree about Dimir being deep. Infiltrator and psychatog are the only cards I feel particularly attached to.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
I would only play Rakdos Charm for artifact removal if I absolutely needed it, and if I'm in red chances are I won't. That card is pretty much the epitome of a mediocre card that is terrible in cube.
Likely going to put all 10 charms into my cube once they're all spoiled.
But I don't have a normal cube. With 90 creatures with morph, 2 toughness is a thing in my cube. This also makes Izzet Charm & Selesnya Charm also very good.
edit: What I was really hoping for was the return of split cards. I have all 23 split cards in my cube and I want more.

So the question is: Is this better than Recoil? Because that's the only Dimir card I could see cutting for Dimir Charm.
