This seems like a pretty reasonable support card for WU tempo decks (the same kinds of decks that would like to play Geist of Saint Traft). Getting extra value from dead creatures is always welcome, it contributes to token-based strategies. And because it's a land, it has a good opportunity cost. Plus, WU doesn't have the most stellar group of cards (really hoping RtR will help us here) anyways, so cutting a mediocre card to try it out seems fine.
Does anyone have any experience with this land? How has it been?
It's in my cube for testing, but sadly has not come up yet. I'm worried that it won't come together for any deck though. Basically, I'm concerned that it is too slow/small/colorless for tempo (after all, the last thing tempo wants is to drop things off curve due to a colorless land) and too graveyard dependent for control.
I've had this card in my cube for a couple months now. To be frank, it's done nothing. The mythical ideal U/W tempo deck comes up once in a blue moon for us, and even then, it's hard to justify taking this over a good blue instant or efficient white threat. Geist of Saint Traft seems like it would fall in the general vicinity of this card, but would be stronger overall, as it kills very quickly, and is good in any archetype (aggro, tempo, control) as long as your opponent is playing control.
I haven't acquired a Geist of my own yet, but as soon as I do, I'm booting the land for the dude.
This goes best in a deck w/ plenty of powerful equipment. The point of this card is to just *always* have a guy that you can strap a sword to.
Without equipment to strap to the creatures, they are kind of expensive for what you get. But with equipment they are amazing. It's a good reason to play Steelshaper's Gift--so you always have that equipment.
I like the card but the deck doesn't always come together. Bant decks are really popular here and this card is an all star in those decks acting as a really beefed up Kjeldoran Outpost (that even takes a land slot!). It's also surprisingly good in certain control builds that run a decent number of utility creatures but in your traditional U/W control with just a couple utility creatures and a finisher it's not a good card. In a way it's a lot like Geist of Saint Traft, if your deck is U/W you may not necessarily want him but if you do want him he'll be great.
Interesting find. I agree that UW could definitely use a solid card, and agressive blue is well supported in my cube. I may give this a whirl, although with a new Rav block coming up, I may hold off and wait to see what new stuff we are getting. I wonder how many of the original Rav block's gold cards still see regular cube play?

I think there's just one for WU. Grand Arbiter Augustin IV; and I don't run him anymore. Not because he's bad, but because the competition at the 4cc slot is too brutal.
There's a lot more if you look to the other guilds though.
Moorland Haunt worked really well in our cube. Honestly though, I think this card works best is a smaller, tighter cube where the cards that work best with it are more likely to show up. In my 360 list, swords were common, Geist of Saint Traft was common, esper/bant tempo-midrange builds were easy to put together for this card to really shine. I can see in a larger list how this card would get lost among the dispersed power level and lack of direct support and fail to shine.
I feel like moorland haunt doesn't offer what a lot of U/W decks try and do and that is why some people may not see it being played. It is a very strong card I won't lie, however I don't like it in cubes to be honest and I wouldn't include it in my 540 list.

I'll just quote myself.

Sadly, Moorland Haunt did not show up much. If it ends up the way it works for Donald I am fine, though.

Control would want the card, but it can't use it because of the lack of creatures.
Interesting card, but there is basically no home for it. A clear no for cube IMO.
