Absolutely. I even said as much directly earlier in the thread. That's why I hate the term "Sacred Cow" when talking about cube cards. They should all be included based exclusively on merit and performance, and if that's the case, every card should always be under direct and constant scrutiny.
Was this directed at me? I feel like I've been providing pretty objective observations of Venser's consistent performance throughout.
It was certainly a general statement. We are all just as guilty of saying things like:
"I'd play this card in every deck all the time." I am no exception.
If we assume everything should be explained its more likely someone reading will get more out of your conversations.
If people are afraid to post what they feel, there must be some truth to this.
This isn't an attack on anyone, just an observation that might help us as a community in the future.
a) venser is really, really good. i would be happy to play him in most decks... probably all decks, but i'll shy away from hyperbole here. tempo (the concept, not the deck type) is important in control decks, too. control decks need to survive into the late game and invalidating one or more of your opponent's turns spending mana to cast something, equipping, attacking, etc goes a long way toward accomplishing that. venser provides tempo in a variety of ways, often more than one in a single casting. he sidesteps the card disadvantage inherent in bounce, which can be really powerful despite -1ing you. i'm confused that he wouldn't perform well for anyone. i understand the sacred cow and groupthink concepts and actually i think there's some weight to them, but in this case i think the card really is just that good.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I like Venser, he's really useful and can really cause huge tempo swings. I'd play him in pretty much any blue deck. He's not on my chopping block yet, probably not anytime soon.
The only reason Venser isn't in my 540 is that I don't own one (yet). Context is everything with almost every card. If you aren't running enough of the enablers, several of which have already been mentioned, and cards that Venser can act like a hard counter against or severely weaken (Giant Growth, Oblivion Ring, Treachery, then maybe he is under performing for your playgroup. All card selections for your Cube are valid as long as the people playing it are having fun.

True, but if cards like Mind Twist ever become bring up for chopping block (due to card power level raising or whatever), it's pretty time for me to stop playing magic.

Mind Twist is a lot more debatable if the cube is unpowered, it's even remotely fair or at least near the next best black cards. Three mana for a random Mind Rot, four mana for random discard three are good, but not unfair deals if you're not getting them two turns ahead of time.
Specialities about the cube: U tempo, B aggro, R slow-ish are supported. G aggro is not.
Currently trying to support tokens in all colors but blue, in different ways: W pumps them, B sacrifices them, R suicides them, G has decent-sized ones.
cube list outdated
*literal C/U definition according to gatherer
**some cards are banned. Library of Alexandria, Land Tax, Sol Ring.

Just saying..
I know this probably belongs in another thread but Mind Twist is way way more fair in an unpowered cube. Its the ability to mind twist for 3 on turn 2 that is devastating. That is a real Rarity for unpowered.
