For those of us who run silver-bordered cards, is this playable? Its a lot of mana, but I'm not sure how many token cards cost enough for this to be worth it.
Also silver-bordered cards look so cool in the M15 frame

Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Well, looking at how even big Powered lists with artifact support rarely include the way less narrow Mishra's Workshop, I don't think this one is good enough.
Of course, if you do want to run silver-bordered, you could be struggling to find enough options...
Way too narrow. Does it even work on spells that don't put tokens onto the battlefield as they resolve (like Cloudgoat Ranger or Garruk Relentless)? And even if it does, there will always be more artifacts for Mishra's Workshop than token makers for this card. Especially since most artifacts are colorless while token makers are spread over all colors. And as willdice said, Workshop is already too narrow for most cubes and too swingy for my liking.
And what the hell is up with that frame!? Why doesn't the silver border run around the whole card? A two-colored frame? What the **** is this *****!? This thing makes gold borders and white borders look smooth and slick!
Yeah I didn't think it was good enough but wanted to see. I would assume you can't use it on EtB effects and Walkers which I didn't realize at first and was basically the only reason I thought it had potential.
And fwiw, I really like the look of the frame.

I also think it is intended to be able to cast Cloudgoat Ranger, since that card puts tokens onto the battlefield. If this were real, I would actually test this if I were running un-cards/holiday cards.
Yes, it's narrow, but 3 mana is a huge game. Mishra's Workshop has been really good for us. Sure, it sits in sideboards most of the time, but when it's in the maindeck, it's a scary card. That's worth it for me when it comes to that power level, just like Bazaar of Baghdad and Time Vault.
A lot of these cards get hated because they are so ridiculously powerful in the right deck.

It is a silver-bordered card. It works the way your group wants to work.

The main point of the black lower part is to be machine-readable. If they did this one the way it is, it's probably because extending the silver border for the whole card would not work with the reading machines.
Yeah, I have to say I think the border looks fine. Cool even.
With regards to what it can cast, I think silver bordered cards can be more "spirit of the card" than normal cards can be. If I wanted to run a card like this (and I don't particularly) I'd let it cast anything that had an intrinsic ability to make tokens. Any of the elspeths, Garruks that make wolves or beasts, battlesphere, Rhys the Redeemed, Bitterblossom, etc. The whole point of the card is to get as many token toys on the table as possible.
Yeah, I'm not quite sure why they didn't make it colored mana. Mishra's Workshop producing colorless makes sense, since you're going to be casting colorless spells.
That's the biggest strike against this card. Not only is it limited to token-producing cards, but it's further limited by needing that spell to have at least 3 in its cost.
It seems to me that I would want this in any deck that had a lot of token producers. If this was standard legal, I would be running four in my jeskai tokens deck. Imagine this:
You have an R/W tokens deck. You are on the play.
End of opponents turn 2: you have a plains and mountain in play, you cast raise the alarm.
Your turn 3: play your workshop. You cast a second raise the alarm. Tap the workshop and convoke triplicate spirits. You now have 7 tokens (3 fliers) in play on turn 3.
Unless they have a sweeper on turn 3, you are in a pretty commanding position.
This is one of just many ways that you could use this to exploit a broken card. Of course it would only be broken in the perfect deck.
Not to mention the fact that you could cast 3 raise the alarms on turn four with 3 plains in play, or a hordeling outburst and raise the alarm on turn 4 or any number of other spell combinations that are probably even more mana efficient that I am missing.
If it could turn cast a turn 4 suns champion that would be gross. It would give more opportunities for colors other than green to ramp. I would love to see a whole series of these types of lands in Fate Reforged, although that kind of fast mana will probably never happen again even if it is extremely limited in its uses.

Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
And fwiw, I really like the look of the frame.
idk about the pointy-ness, but does the "oy" look way too close together to anyone else?

This card is awesome and flavorful, but too narrow, IMO.
