Leaving a 1 loyality planeswalker behind your 5/5 flyer for 5 is nothing to sneeze at, even if it takes a turn for your walker (where it only drains one life) before it becomes a threat again. The worst case of this card is pretty solid, you get your 5/5 and they spend their attacker or spell to kill the walker. If they don't manage to do that (withing two turns) things get ugly with a second 5/5.
I kind of like this guy at 450. Solid control finisher, solid in midrange, and ok as an aggro curve topper. I still run Puppeteer Clique though, so I might have an easier time finding room than most. I agree that he is best evaluated as a creature with upside. Wether or not he sticks in my cube will depend on how frequently his upside occurs. I feel like he has a good chance of performing well.
I think this guy is easily better than Bloodgift Demon. Demon will net you a card if it lives a turn, but dies to Wildfire and more removal and when they do kill it before you untap you're left with nothing. New-Ob may not draw you a card but making 5/5s every other turn if you can will often be better than a random card in your deck, and if unanswered provides a quicker clock more consistently than Bloodgift Demon. Plus if they do pressure your PW you're gaining life, and you can't attack a Bloodgift Demon.
I'm still not completely sold on this guy vs Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief. She's been really good for us in black control decks. She's removal and a quick clock. I don't think this guy will be making it in at 550 for us.
It's only kind of a bigger body. Drana is at worst a 4/4. Typically she's a 6/4 or larger. And she kills things. Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I don't like this more than Drana.

The first one is only kinda bigger, but it doesn't seem too tough to get 2 5/5s since the first can block long enough to bring a friend along. Once you get 2 5/5s this card is pretty nuts, but it remains to be seen how consistently that will happen with a flip-flopping set of abilities re:loyalty counters.
I also run Puppeteer Clique, which is probably my weakest black 5-drop, although I really like that card, especially with the new Flesh Carver
I've never been a fan of Bloodgift Demon, so I'd try Ob Nixilis PW over that if I still ran him.
I really like the Clique as well, but it tends to suck against Aggro and can totally wiff more often than I like to see. I've been waiting for a solid black 5 drop threat and I think Ob Nix will hold down the fort until we get something better.
Hm, I actually like this card more now that I accept that he is mostly about his -2 ability. I was just so disappointed that his +2 ability grants so few life in a duel. In the end, he might be good enough as a big flyer with a bonus.
I wonder how many posters here missed that his -2 ability also costs 2 life though. That isn't much, but with all the other black life payment cards around, it is worth noting that this "5/5 flyer that comes with a planeswalker attached" costs 2 life in addition to its five mana.

This should definitely be taken into account. I've recently taken out Graveborn Muse and Phyrexian Arena so that's two of those off for me.
Yeah, the more I think about this guy, the more I like him. He has a very large potential upside. -3 life and 3BB for two 5/5 flyers (along with draining your opponent for 1) over 3 turns is really good. His worst case scenario isn't bad either.
I'm definitely on board. Planeswalkers with +2 loyalty abilities are very difficult to get rid of via combat, and his -2 is fair if you activate it once, and gets more and more ridiculous with each subsequent activation.
After testing I'm liking this guy a lot more than I thought I would. An immediate 5/5 flyer is a lot more potent than I originally anticipated. Pox, Stax and Wildfire love this guy. How has he been doing for others?
Similarly, I've been liking it more than initially thought (and I liked it quite a bit.) Getting 2 5/5 fliers is crazy-good value for its cost and isn't terribly difficult to do either; its +2 isn't that great but hey, it keeps him alive and +2 makes it harder to kill with attackers/burn.

His +2 is a warning, like taking a turn to pull back the string on the big crossbow.
I playtested him at 360 this past week. I faced him down in match 3 and he was very good for my opponent. The 5/5 demon was a very scary threat and ob-nix immediately became my focus until I could remove him. I found I was willing to do whatever I could to get him off the board before that 2nd demon came. He seems to be an upgrade over Desecration Demon, who was just taken out.
Yeah, he's fine. A 5/5 black flier for five is OK, particularly since you can get another in three turns. A really strong black 5 drop would push him out but for now he's seeing play and doing well. After all, -3 life and 3BB for two 5/5 flyers (and also draining your opponent for 1) over 3 turns is good.

I agree, a really strong 5 drop and Ill probably cut him. So his day are probably numbered. Have to figure a good 5cc creature or PW will come out in the next year.
Making a proxy and testing this guy right away.
