EDIT: Right now I'm giving him a 50% shot of making the cut. I may be underrating this guy in my cube, as he does make Mirari's Wake 1GW, or Yawgmoth's Bargain 2BB.
I think it's decently playable in aggressive decks if you have 1 5cc curve-topper floating around and/or some Swords and other 4cc guys that would benefit from the haste. But ya, aggressive midrange decks is where he'll be great. There are a lot of creatures that are really powerful when they're 2 cheaper and have haste.
If you didn't have to tap it, I would immediately be testing this. As-is, it's a red ritual that is delayed a turn (Like a 2-mana Grinning Ignus.) but gives your creature haste. Or it's a Goblin Piker. Having to pick one mediocre mode or the other kind of sucks, but being a ritual that is also a creature is quite interesting and the haste granting is unique as well. It might be good enough for mid-large sized cubes.
Being able to get a hasty Baneslayer Angel or Hero of Bladehold or casting Plow Under a turn early seems really strong. This guy makes 4cmc and 5cmc creatures so much more threatening and also will a lot of times just ramp to create very powerful plays.
We haven't gotten much testing in lately, but I'm really excited to see how he does in a small cube. I think he may even be better there than in larger ones because all the guys you're ramping into are that much more powerful.
I think ritual effects are stronger than usual in your cube, and that will help. But I have literally nothing in red besides Inferno Titan for this guy to ramp into and there are better cards for an aggressive RG strategy that I'm not even playing.
I find it interesting how appealing I find this when satyr hedonist seemed like a big waste to me. Haste is so huge in cube, it is like trimming off and extra mana. I was playing some test games with a bunch of M15 forced in to sealed pools last night.
To be fair, most limited formats are midrange based, so it's not surprising that it'd do well in that particular context (that said, I think it's sweet.)
He's very good. I had the pleasure of drafting him in a ridiculous G/r ramp deck yesterday that had both Generator Servant and Orcish Lumberjack. I didn't see him often, but in one game I used him to churn out an early Maelstrom Wanderer (which cascaded into Hornet Queen huehuehue), the haste was irrelevantly redundant but just casting Wanderer two turns early won me the game on the spot. I also had Kalonian Hydra, Primeval Titan, and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth in my deck but didn't get to live that dream unfortunately. However, it was easy to see that he supplants the archetype very well, whether he's giving haste to something that really shouldn't have haste, or just providing a back breaking mana burst. What I also like about him is that he's good in other archetypes -- red aggro, R/x midrange, sometimes Storm (not ideally but still)...very unique and effective overall.
Gagen?? Didn't know you post here. Unless it was a coincidence that someone from someone elses play group had that exact group of cards haha.
Yeah, early testing of generator servant has been very positive.
Played him in a B/R/g agro-midrange deck and he was super sweet. Had marginal ramp of mana crypt + deathrite shaman + mox.
Curve topped out at grave titan.
The deck had some very explosive agro starts , that his goblin piker stats were relevant.. but he also served as ramp for a couple of my game enders. Obviously being absurd with the titans.
The other thing I liked about him, was he was a lightning rod. People were using valuable removal spells on him, because of the threat, of what he represented. They couldn't beat a hasted grave titan on turn 3, so it forced them to use a kill spell on him. I played him, then followed it up with a Dark confidant/Grenzo, dungeon warder all much more "must kill" cards. His death allowed those cards to stick.
I really like Generator Servant, he can go in regular aggro decks or some kind of ramp strategy. At his worst, he's a Goblin Piker, which is fine, but at his best, he's powering out a 5 drop with haste on turn 3 and that's very good.

Agreed. I very much enjoy the fact that the mana isn't strictly for creature use only.

HA, I guess it was only a matter of time before I ran into someone I knew here, is this Jordan?
I think I should really try this guy out. I recently added Through the Breach as a one-shot Sneak Attack and in a way, Generator Servant is also kind of a one-shot Sneak Attack, thus creating more redundancy for those decks.
We've had one draft with Generator Servant and it worked out very well in a RG Wildfire Build. Basically exactly the deck I was hoping it would play out well in. Will update when we test more
Not too long ago, I tried my Gruul section to be a ramp strategy. This card was very good in that strategy! I wouldn't play it in any other deck though.

I really wish he had haste or didn't tap so I could produce mana with him via Nightscape Familiar + Yawgmoth's Will.

Now this wasn't a real draft but damn. Once in a while this guy is going to wreck things.
