Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Seeing how cogwork librarian is in conspiracy, i think this new mechanic could very well be appropos to this forum.
Finding design space in the mechanics of drafting. That's pretty awesome.

We do not know how the card type Conspiracy works. Cogwork Librarian is not a card with this type, so the "draft matters" mechanic is not tied to the new card type.
Does anyone play with Hero cards in their cubes? Hydra heads? Could be the same thing, as far as we know.
If they wind up not being Vintage legal (like Un-cards, Vanguard, hero cards, holiday promos and the like) I won't be cubing with them.
Seems a bit premature. Don't you think you'd at least try them if they are fun? Though the fact that they have regular backs (I think) and are thus probably meant to be drafted, lowers their chances of being "good enough." They may just not be cards that work in constructed but work fine in draft.
othing so far says the are regular backed. I'm guessing they are not. I'm guessing these won't be like unsets at all, which I play. These will be secret agendas or global bonuses like planes. If I'm right it decreases my interest in the whole set and certainly won't use them.
If I am wrong, and these things have a casting cost, I'll try them.

Isn't this as constructive to the discussion at hand as someone popping up in a thread and saying "If this winds up being rare, I won't cube with it because I run a pauper cube." ?

I was just sharing my disappointment that the cards weren't going to be designed to be integrated with other formats. Sorry to pollute your reading experience Pringlesman.
tbh I have no problem with cards not being vintage legal (see: Fruitcake Elemental), and I still probably won't use these if it really is a full extra card type. I just don't know if it could add enough to be worth having to explain what it is to anyone who didn't draft conspiracy.
If its like a subtype or something maybe.

I originally interpreted this to mean that cards from the Conspiracy set weren't going to be Vintage legal. If all it means is that there going to be 13 "other" cards that are included that are kinda like Vanguard/Planechace/Hero cards or whatever, and the rest of the cards will be Vintage legal, this is no big deal at all. I happily cube cards from the Commander/Planechase sets that are designed to be integrated with other Magic cards, even though I don't use Planes, etc. Carry on, lol.
Yeah IIRC there's like 52 new cards in Conspiracy, which would mean 39 new non-Conspiracy cards in Conspiracy. . . Which is the most confusing sentence I have ever typed.

My wager: the conspiracy cards will be formatted like the flip cards from Kamigawa, with different messages to send to drafters based on which orientation you pass it in. (For example, something like "I am drafting aggro/control" or "Keep/pass blue.") This will probably imply a different, symmetric back.
I can't wait to see what design space within the draft process is going to be tapped here. I hope some of it could be applicable to a Winston draft in some way. Cogwork Librarian is a promising start but until we know how exactly the other mechanics and their variations will work, it's impossible to say much more. I'm not fundamentally opposed to including something like Cogwork Librarian if it fits our format.

Ral is great, but I wouldn't mind a second super powerful izzet walker.
I couldn't ever make my cube a vintage legal cube. Blast from the past has made itself my favorite card recently. So I'll be looking at conspiracies, but even then they sound as fruitful as schemes. I've never played archenemy and have an irrational hatred for schemes. Planechase planes were cool, even though they took a bit to get used to because of lands existing. My cube sometimes runs FFA-multiplayer drafts using planes as an alternative to swiss 1v1 competition.
I think they might affect drafting or something of that matter.

On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
I just read that Dack Fayden will be a walker in Conspiracy, and he was designed with the fact that he won't be legal in standard or modern in mind.
We should be getting a very interesting planeswalker. . .
He is blue/red, in terms of flavor, powers and personality. Hopes for something more playable than Ral Zarek.
