I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
I hope this is promo'd at some point, as I don't much like the art. It's just too icky.
Yeah, I think the art direction for this card was a bad idea considering that it will get played for sure in Cube (a fact which the developers SHOULD be aware of even if they don't care at all about Cube). The problem is that whoever draws the promo will be tasked with depicting the same description, so it won't be that much different.

Uhh.
I don't think developers pay attention to cube, and they definitely don't have anything to do with the art. And the creative team doesn't know the strength of the card.

Excluding commander products where they deliberately plant overpowered crap (and don't print it in foil, so I don't put it in my cube).
SO yes, I guess we got a red one drop, a white 3 drop, and a green 3 drop creature. Such variety for a block!
If you want to talk about the block, say that, not just "nowadays". New cards from special products are still "playable cube cards we get these days", and no one is forced to know you are talking about your own shiny-only cube when you say "we".
Besides those listed, Theros gave us Soldier of the Pantheon, Spear of Heliod, new Elspeth, Thassa, Master of Waves, Hero's Downfall, Whip of Erebos, Tormented Hero, Purphoros, Lightning Strike, Sylvan Caryatid, Xenagos the Reveler, Kiora, and Steam Augury.
And some will also play Ashen Rider, Boon Satyr, Unravel the Aether, Spirit of the Labyrinth, Pain Seer, Satyr Firedancer, Reckless Reveler, Omenspeaker, Hammer of Purphoros, Polukranos and Ashiok.
Sure, Return to Ravnica probably gave us twice as much new good cards, but that doesn't mean we are starving for playables this year.

Guess I'm just bitter about Theros because it's such a poor limited format.
Yep, you just sound bitter. There are tons of great cube cards in this set. Also, Theros is a pretty fun limited format. What don't you like about it?
Heroic is one of the worst limited mechanics of all time. Actively encouraging "all-in" strategies does not lead to fun game play. It leads to one player being blown out and miserable games.
Devotion is an obnoxious, swingy mechanic.
Bad removal is bad for limited.
I would be happy to discuss my opinions with you in the limited forum, but I'm fairly certain I'm not alone in this opinion.

I say 'developers' in the generic sense. Point being, there is a disconnect somewhere because anybody who has ever heard of Cube would say "instant staple" to this card because it takes no analysis whatever to figure it out.To give it art that is borderline on the inappropriate side for some portion of the audience seems like a miscue.
What exactly is "inappropriate" here? It seems to me like an even more flavorful hit than usual - a one-armed fighter would indeed have difficulty blocking and attacking at the same time
I guess he meant repulsive or repugnant? The arm stump and the scarred face look rather nasty. Perhaps he means that the picture is too nasty to be appropriate for younger players?

This has gotten weird. I admit it is frustrating that wizards feels black card art need to be super black to avoid confusion. It makes interesting detail difficult. Also our 2/1s are rarely/never going to look awesome because they are one drops. I consider it a victory that 2 of the 4 we have from this block are sweet looking. The foil Satyr is especially cool.
Easiest card to replace with this has to be Sarcomancy. I already didn't like blocking with that, and the Gnarled Scarhide is useful no matter when you draw him!
Not to mention Gravecrawler shenanigans and the occasional bounce trick on Sarcomancy. Any two-power Zombie one-drop is guaranteed a spot in my cube virtually forever thanks to the old Crawler.
If you're cutting another 2-power 1-drop, Vampire Lacerator is the one at the bottom of the list currently. But that doesn't matter, because I'll be running all of them!

It is amazing how many great black 1-drops we got lately. They have basically doubled in only three years!
Now, Wizards, do the same with green aggro 1-drops, please.
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
The drawback on the bestow has to be considered, falter sneakyness etc. Lots of interesting strategic decisions.

Ahh yes, Courser of Kruphix, Firedrinker Satyr, Toxic Deluge, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, some of my favorite black one drops haha.
