The printing of the Jest made me wonder if this could be playable in a larger Cube as a Blue combat trick (which are otherwise hard to come by). Sudden Spoiling has existed for a long time, has a superior effect most of the time and has split second, which is quite useful on a card like this, but they obviously don't compete directly with each other.
Anytime two or more creatures are involved in combat on each side, this is going to be quite a blowout, but that situation is not particularly common in Cube.
Has anyone tried Sudden Spoiling? Any experiences to share?
I've played Sudden Spoiling. It can randomly be a blowout, but most often it's much better to play a removal spell that works outside of combat. Or something like Ashes to Ashes if you specifically want a 3cc removal spell that can kill more than 1 dude. Sudden Spoiling is a lot better than Polymorphist's Jest is, so my experiences with the one make me want to not play the other. It's arguably in a better color for the effect, but I'd say it's in a worse color for the competition. I don't want to cut any blue cards for that.
It does get untargetable creatures which is especially nice in cube. I agree that blue is THE hardest color for anything to break into, but I wouldn't fault someone running this as an answer to gods, hex proof dudes and the like. I'm considering testing it out but I am having trouble coming up with the slot myself.
I was surprised there wasnt an scd for polymorphists jest as sudden spoiling is actually quite good in my experience. I figured it must be a pet card, but what stinks is the split second on sudden spoiling was a huge boon for the black variant, 1/1s are easier to remove then 0/2s but the jest isnt a fog like its black brother.
Regeneration and firebreathing still go through the U variany which in my opinion makes it worse.
SS is the better of the two by a wide margin, I think. Split second and zero power mean a lot, and it's also a lot easier to cut a black card for this instead of a blue card for Jest.
But its much mor wanted in blue, and through experience with SS makig something a 1 toughness creature could have won me unwinnable games before. They arent as far apart as I iniially thought in power but split second is just huge especially for a card like this.
Sorry for spelling and grammar. I usually post on my phone and I have large fingers.
Second edit: is black easy to cut for you guys? In my experience cutting ease goes U B W R G, from hardest to easiest to find cuts. They vary at cmcs and card types but in general thats my order.
