After some discussion, this is how Power Ranking voting is going to work:
* Voting will be open for 4 days.
* Votings opened on Monday will be closed on Thursday (pending participation).
* Votings opened on Thursday will be closed on Monday (pending participation).
* The VOTING thread will be for posting your votes only.
* Results will be posted, in their own thread after voting is closed.
* Discussion regarding the results will take place in the RESULTS thread only.
* Voters are to rank the Top 20 cards for each group according to what they would take at Pack 1, Pick 1 (P1P1).
* Please rank your cards from #1 through #20, with #1 being the card you would take over all the others.
* Votes will be tallied with each card getting a composite score to determine its ranking in the group.
* Please rank all 20 cards. Partial lists will not be accepted.
Here's how the Power Rankings have been explained in the past:
Quote from Silent Edge »
February 8, 2010
This is a resource to be used in as many ways as possible. I originally had the idea on my drive into work to help myself and my friends who were new to the Cube determine which cards are the best to be picked early (read: have decks build around them). There are the cards that we've all used in other formats that were absolute houses that are probably complete rubbish in the Cube (Anyone actually run Arcbound Ravager in their Cube?). The concept here is that the experienced and inexperienced alike share their thoughts and ideas on what cards are most worthy of being taken first. Power level, castability, splashability and core strength (when I say "core strength", I refer to "cards that decks can be built around").
Last year, we learned that there are cards that are better than others. We also learned of cards that we should have in our Cubes that may not even be there. Personally, I don't care WHAT we learn, as long as we all learn something.
ANY AND ALL CARDS ARE OPEN TO BE VOTED ON.
This includes Unglued, Portal sets, etc. If you truly believe it to be one of the Top 20 cards you would take at Pack 1, Pick 1 -- then place it accordingly.
Here's a couple of cool quotes I found that will help all the voters in understanding what to/what not to vote for:
CARDS WITH THE DIFFERENT NAMES BUT SIMILAR EFFECTS:
Some are keeping it the same card and some are keeping them separate, any consensus on what we should do?
Quote from wtwlf123 »
Geddon and Ravages of War are the same. Wrath and DoJ aren't.
Players can assume that the power-level of Geddon and RoW are the same, so you don't need to vote for 'em twice. If you want Both Wrath and DoJ to make the top 20, you need to vote for both of 'em.
For the record, people listed "Armageddon/Ravages of War" as a single entry. Wrath and Day of Judgment are separate entries. It's convenient that these are White cards, but this will hold true for any cards, in any group that have the same exact effect but may have different names (Wildfire and Burning of Xinye immediately come to mind).
CARDS YOU MAY NOT HAVE IN YOUR CUBE, BUT HAVE PLAYED WITH/AGAINST:
Quote from Konfusious »
This is quite hard to do. I did not include cards I do not play in my cube, namely Moat that would probably make my list but I have no idea where I would put it, not having played with it and all.
Quote from Silent Edge »
Perfect. If you don't run the card, haven't never played against it or just don't know about it -- do NOT vote for it. Well done.
"Taking a stab" at what you think a card is ranked at based on what you see other people rank it, or whatever you think it may be can skew the numbers. If you're not sure, it is PERFECTLY acceptable to not vote for it. I doubt very much that anyone in the group will call you out on it, but "I've never played with or against the card" is a great answer for not ranking it.
Quote from rantipole »
Well I don't have Moat in my cube, but I've played with and against Moat often enough that I feel comfortable with how high I would pick it in cube. That said, I mostly agree with you. It's going to be very difficult for me to rate Power 9 as I have rarely come in contact with those cards and have never personally played them.
Cheers,
rant
I'll be throwing all the above information into EACH voting group, so as we may add voters who missed a group or 2 or 5, they can jump in and have all that info available to them.
Alright, enough with the pleasantries. Here's the 2009 and 2010 Power Rankings for Land...
PLEASE NOTE:
Since Lands's last Power Ranking, the following sets/blocks have been released:
Magic 2011 - Magic 2014
Rise of the Eldrazi
Scars of Mirrodin Block
Innistrad Block
Return to Ravnica Block
Theros Block
Commander
Commander's Arsenal
Commander 2013 Conspiracy is NOT to be included in this year's Power Rankings
That's just a reminder that while 2009 and 2010 can be used as a reference, that's ALL it should be used for. Be sure to compile as complete of a ballot as you can.
With ALL OF THAT said...2014's Power Rankings have now begun.
Silent Edge's Tidbits of Wisdom: The Lewis Theory - When the presence of a single card makes every other card in your deck better (see Lewis, Ray). The Rubber Edict - You'd rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it. The Shotgun Wedding - Don't commit early unless you absolutely have to.
Are guild-alligned lands like Dual Lands and Man Lands and stuff voted on here? We included Stronghold in black, are we going to be including Tar Pit in gold, or in this one?
Stupid Dual Man Lands. They screw up everything. EVERYTHING!
I was trying to streamline the Gold/Guild voting by putting the lands here. If we gave a Top 5 for each of the 10 guilds, lands would take up a large chunk of that, not leaving a lot of info for the actual spells. And in what I thought was a brilliant move, I overlooked those Dual Man Lands.
I'm going to lean towards keeping the duals, shocks, fetches, etc in this group and moving those Man Lands into the guilds; given their dual-colored activation cost (and despite their dual mana producing ability). That seems like it makes sense to me. Volrath's Stronghold is Black because of it's activation, not because of it's mana producing.
I'm really grasping for straws at the bottom here, there just aren't that many great lands to make a full list of 20, especially with Tolarian Academy, Shelldock Isle and others being voted on in their respective colored sections.
I am only playing #1 through #13 on this list, the bottom 7 are not even in my cube.
I put Horizon Canopy in this list and not the respective guild because it's color-aligned based off fixing, not activation cost, similar to Duals/Shocks/etc.
But ya, this list exhausts pretty much every land I have in my cube that meets this requirement.
Good Lord, Horizon Canopy isn't very good for this. My brain tells me it should be a Selesnya Guild card, but I'm positive it sees play in more than just GW decks (GX, WX decks use it). Let's put the Canopy in this group. Any deck can use it.

If we haven't had extensive experience with a lot of lands, is a partial list allowed? For example, could I leave the bottom 5 slots blank, simply because I've only every cubed with 15 lands/cycles that fall into this category? Or should I abstain from voting for fear of skewing the data?
1. Library of Alexandria
2. Strip Mine
3. Maze of Ith
4. Wasteland
5. ABU Duals
6. ONS/ZEN Fetches
7. Mana Confluence
8. Rishadan Port
9. City of Brass
10. RAV shocklands
11. Ancient Tomb
12. Mishra's Factory
13. Mutavault
14. Karakas
15. Horizon Canopy
16. M10 / Innistrack checklands
17. Fetid Heath (and the cycle if needed, only play this one)
18. Blackcleave Cliffs (and the cycle if needed, only play this one)
19. Undiscovered Paradise
20. Reflecting Pool
If Karakas is not accepted (I think it should, it gets played in non-white decks in our cube), then add to 20. spot Mirage fetchlands.

Plenty of people haven't voted for Library of Alexandria which is one of the best lands of all time. I assume it's because they haven't played with it, so I'm sure if you have your last five as Forest / Mountain / Island / Plains / Swamp no one will bat an eye.
You could just guess where you'd pick them too, my bottom 7 are cards that aren't in my cube.
Given the amount of people voting for pure insanity such as Terramorphic Expanse and not Library of Alexandria, I'd have a hard time believing in the results of this particular section of voting. It's also apparent you've all never seen a Tabernacle in action before. Who can blame you though, that card's ridiculously expensive.
Tabernacle is completely oppressive to tokens and aggressive strategies in a very unfun way. I don't play it for the same reason I don't play Constant Mists -- it's not that I don't think the card is bonkers good, it's just not what I would want to cube with. Same with unglued/unhinged cards -- City of Ass is probably awesome.
All three of the cards I just mentioned are actually awesome in storm, and we love us some storm, but the cons are just not worth the pros with any of those cards.
I'm fine with people not voting for Library of Alexandria if they don't cube it. The rankings will better reflect the community at large.
EDIT: I've actually considered adding both Tabernacle and Constant Mists, but I think my playgroup would crucify me.
These are the only lands I've had some play with in cube. Alexandria was cut for being far too powerful in comparison to the rest of the cards in my cube (maybe one day it'll get put back in). Just about everything else is either in it now, has been in before, or regularly rotates in and out.
1. Library of Alexandria
2. Strip Mine
3. City of Brass
4. Rav Shock Lands
5. Grand Coliseum
6. Maze of Ith
7. Evolving Wilds/Terramorphic Expanse
8. Ancient Tomb

NOTE FOR LAND VOTING
Please include all non-single-color related lands in this group. This would include all colorless producing lands such as Library of Alexandria, Rishadan Port, Ancient Tomb and Strip Mine etc. This would also include cards that produce the domain such as City of Brass, Grand Coliseum and Mana Confluence. Lands that do not produce any mana, but still are non-single-color related such as Maze of Ith and Evolving Wilds are included here.
Please include "ABU Dual Lands", "Ravnica Shock Lands", "ONS/ZEN Fetch Lands", "Vivid Lands" and similar cycles as single entries.
Cards that are directly colored related such as Kjeldoran Outpost, Academy Ruins, Volrath's Stronghold, Barbarian Ring and Gaea's Cradle have already been included in their associated color groups.
That's just a reminder that while 2009 and 2010 can be used as a reference, that's ALL it should be used for. Be sure to compile as complete of a ballot as you can.
