I saw this on reddit, it's a brilliant read and put a few thoughts into my head for what will be episode 10 of our podcast where we will discuss 'power'. We recorded episode 9 this evening and funnily enough a lot of similar discussions on Grim Monolith were had. I also consider that card ok in unpowered cubes.

good stuff, thanks for reading! Grim Monolith is a funny card.
On Lotus - it's a better Mana Vault. Does the same thing, does it a little bit better.
The card missing from this list is Skullclamp, which I would rate higher than Jitte but lower than the really busted stuff. It draws about as many cards as a Library of Alexandria in most longer games, but requires a bit more investment.
Loaded wrong version. Proofreading is not my strong suit. Thanks for the spot.
I thought about adding Skullclamp at least to talk about why it isn't good enough, but I felt that I wasn't the only player who experienced the kinda-meh no-creature-dies-to-my-clamp "problem", whereas something like Jitte is just about always going to be finding you value in those situations if not more consistently overall. This is no knock on skullclamp, but the investment you mention of maximizing Skullclamp's potential was enough of a knock for me to not include it.
Like I mentioned when you posted it on facebook, I think skullclamp belongs in that second tier of power that can take over a game but just isn't on the same level as real cube power. Recurring Nightmare, Symbol Status, JTMS, Swords, etc.
Agree with cuttups. Clamp is really great, but it's not in the same tier as the cards discussed in this article. The only card I'd consider adding is Balance, mostly because it's so powerful but so often misunderstood and underestimated.
Balance was another one I thought about mentioning, but it really does take at minimum some set up to really abuse it. The results are often brutal, but you must do some work most of the time to gain such results. I'm thinking about doing an almost-power article at some point to talk about top-tier non-"power" cards.
Hey man thanks for writing this article. It was a great read and a great resource for the cube community. I would be curious to ask if you would write an article about the next step. Something that I think most people don't grasp very well is when adding powerful cards you have to add answers. Is force of will appropriate in a low power cube. At what point is True Name Nemesis ok to run? When should cards like fastbond, jace the mind sculptor, tinker or show and tell be included in a cube. Answers are key and I think most people don't quite grasp this concept.
