Now that we have thread prefixes, like the "Read This!" plastered on this announcement, we can making the [SCD] and [MCD] tags on card discussion threads a smoother and more organsied process.
From here on out, if you would open an [SCD] or [MCD] thread, instead of typing the tag into the thread title, please instead choose the appropriate prefix from the Prefix dropdown options.
Previous discussion threads will not be retroactively editted to reflect the new tag system (well, not now, and probably not in the future, but you never know), but new threads from here on out will be fixed up if they're not tagged properly.
The SCD and MCD tags are searchable. By integrating them with the forum software, it streamlines what users were already doing and improves the speed with which users can identify threads of interest by capitalizing on the benefits of colour coding (colour coding thread titles without these would require HTML coding be turned on for thread titles, and that creates major security risks). We're still in the testing phases, but this is a new feature that is slowly being implemented where standardized tags apply (coincidentally, this doesn't apply to cube lists due to the high variance and compounding of tags there). If it doesn't work well here, we can fairly easily go back, but this feature is being tested on site-wide level due to the potential benefits.
As to the indexing, there are tons of SCD threads that have been created since the inception of this forum. Like multiple index pages. That is just not nearly as practical to search as the index. I can say from my personal browsing habits that the index has allowed me to dredge up relevant discussion on key cards of interest much faster than the search would, and I have accordingly come to rely on it for finding card discussions not on the front page.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

I think it's neat to have it be an option when creating a new thread, but making it blue is distracting. I think having red text on the thread titles is cool for threads that members need to read concerning the forum rules or set up, but I see no need to change the colors for SCD and MCD threads.

Would you prefer it be bold black then? Or do you have another colour in mind?

I use the dark view, so bold black would be even worse for me. I don't see a need for a color at all, to be honest. I can clearly see that a thread starts with [SCD] and realize that it's a single card discussion. I suppose if there were only a few SCD threads amongst a sea of other threads, color coding them would be helpful, but they're all located centrally. I like being able to choose what sort of thread I'm created, but I think it looks fine the way it is. No need for color coding.
Checking the other forum styles, I agree that the blue [SCD] tag is quite bad. I've put in a request to make them the same green as the [MCD] tags; it at least seems to work well in all of the styles. Is that acceptable?
If not, we're still figuring out other solutions that might work.
Edit: Nevermind. We figured out the technicalities with the prefixes and now it's just bolded text, changing with different forum styles like any other text. This should be the most appropriate solution given the suggestions. Any more comments?
Maybe I'm just being nit picky now, but do they have to stay bold? I typically go through the forum and click the bold threads that I haven't read yet. Now I'm clicking threads or at least rereading titles to threads that I've already read.
Keep it simple. Change is only good when it makes things better. Change for the sake of change is bad. Add in the ability to choose what sort of thread you want to create. That's good. Leave everything else the same. No need for fancy colors. No need for constant boldness.
Hmmmm, that's an interesting point. For me, I found the bold to be better at drawing my eye, so I liked it better than unbolded because my eyes always glossed over the unbolded (there were some tests and implementations elsewhere). Changing it would be no problem, but I'm interested in gathering the opinions of some more people.

I don't really feel like unbolding it is necessary. However, it's not my call, so if more people want unbolded text rather than bolded text, we'll go with it.
Mod discussion will take place, probably leading to a new thread with a Yes/No poll on the matter. Stay tuned.
