I feel so young with all these people talking about kids XD.
I only feel old when I hear players talk about when they started playing. As if Onslaught was a long time ago. I've been playing since Antiquities (although I was in elementary school at the time). If only I had any kind of disposable income to have gotten power for $50 or whatever it was when I started...
I'm right there with you. Dual Lands were cheap. Revised was on the shelf next to 4th (and we bought 4th instead), and packs of the early sets (except Arabian) were also available, and we were all picking up Ice Age and stuff instead.

Yeah it hurts. If I only knew what I knew now, all the money I spent on cards would have added up to an extremely impressive collection rather than a nice collection with a bunch of boxes of junk.
I remember Dual Lands being $10 bills, and seeing packs of Legends and Arabiands on the shelves as 'back packs'. Specifically remember one kid working in a store asking me if I wanted to buy a Tabernacle of Pendrell Vale, even though they didn't carry singles. When I asked, he told me he knows which Legends pack it was in (when you could search!)
in a deck with anthems and equipment it might be worth it but i agree, a 1/1 isn't worth a card and you can't guarantee it will be any better than that. on turn one with another one drop, it would be pretty cool. most of the time it won't.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

Ya, I know. I just like it, and want it to be good.
Nim Deathmantle is starting to grow on me. The 4 removal insurance is expensive, but I think it has the potential to win the game outright when you're ahead on board position. And it's really good with Braids, Smokestack and Avalanche Riders. It's INSANE with Avalanche Riders.
I like the idea of being able to re-use sacrifice effects, and abuse ETB effects when I have this out and a sac outlet. EOT, sac Ronom Unicorn, destroy your enchantment, and then pay 4 to get a 4/4 intimidate. Or sac Hexmage to kill a 'walker, and then pay 4 for a 4/4 fear. It seems good with ETB creatures and outlets like Greater Gargadon too.
It can also make combat a nightmare for your opponent. Not to mention the wrath insurance. Also, sometimes just giving a creature +2/+2 and intimidate can straight steal wins.
I'm not going to call it an auto-include staple, or anything... it's not even a slam-dunk include. But I think it's a card that's hard to evaluate, and I want to test it to be sure. I'm going to test it out instead of Precursor Golem when Scars comes out, I think.

I'm not too sure.
It's not an aggro card - even though it provides evasion, 4 to equip is super high.
It might be okay in a mid-range deck. Mid-range decks sometimes have an excess of mana where this card will be fine, but even then, would you want to play it over a must-deal with threat or removal spell? Probably not. If anything, it will be filler.
It doesn't do anything for control decks. While control decks might have mana up because of counterspells, when combat happens and you pay the 4 to regen your cool blocker, you're often forfeiting your counterspell in second main ... and just retaining your cool blocker. You might not even have a cool blocker at that.
-------
I'll test it this Tuesday/Friday just to see though. It might be way better than I'm thinking via combat discouragement.
Yeah, it's pretty baller with evoke, especially Shriekmaw. It's way more baller if you have a sac outlet for Mulldrifter or Revillark (sp?), but that's just wishful thinking.
Sac outlet + evoke guy + nim = rare scenario = not really a selling point for me.
He's okay. Red's 4-drops are pretty competitive, and it being a turn later than the competition sets him back a little.
It's also, like it's little brother, not a 'may' effect. Why does white get bears with the 'may' hate ability for two mana, and red can't get it for three?
Even when Nim Deathmantle isn't used with a ETB creature, I think it is a decent card. It's a Zombify that can be used over and over again, saving your creatures in hand for later. It helps out your dead draws when you NEED a blocker on the field, and allows for some interesting combat tricks:
Leave 4 mana open, attack with your creatures, and your opponent will be thinking about whether killing your creature is a good thing or a bad thing (since bringing it back will create a blocker).
People are viewing this as a "win more" piece of equipment, but I don't think that's the case at all. The ability to stall and bring back a blocker that immediately turns into a stronger, evasive attacker is a huge temp swing.
Scars has a a bunch of cards that fit this criteria, which at least makes the testing process fun, even when only a fraction end up being good enough for the cube.
I agree. The set has a high complexity level when it comes to evaluating what decks will shine or be enabled in different formats, and the infest/proliferate mechanics are hard to judge without testing.
I think Infest isn't too hard to call. You'd need a critical mass to be able to build around it, which would mean you'd need loads of individually good Infest creatures. SoM won't give us that, however good the likes of that Praetor guy and Skithiryx are.
Ah, I didn't catch that Skithiryx doesn't deal actual damage in addition to the poison counters. Yeah, not so good without poison/infect back-up.
Masticore will have a spot in my cube.
Thanks for pointing out the Search, eidolon. It worked very poorly on the Wizards Community forum, so I completely forgot it existed. It seems to work great here though.
the problem with skyxthphchthryxcx is if he doesn't win the game, he did nothing for you. if rorix bladewing gets in for one hit and then dies, you dealt your opponent damage that will help you on your way to win the game. if nemesis of reason mills for 20 and then dies, your opponent may well draw out anyway or die from additional damage on top of the 6 nemesis dealt. if skythwuthxryxyxrx lays 8 poison counters on your opponent (and you held down BB for regen and paid for his haste and everything) and then dies you just screwed yourself and got nothing out of it.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I really like Spikeshot Elder. I think he'll find a home in my cube. Actually I think it'll come down to him vs Magus as a replacement for Mox Monkey which has been almost a complete failure for us. I know a lot of you will disagree with that change, considering that my cube is powered, but it really just hasn't done much of anything and hasn't be popular among my group. I love repeatable effects and I'm fine with blowing up a Mox for 1 and then blowing up a Jitte for 5. But any artifact that's more than 2cc is way too hard to remove with the monkey. And some drafts don't even include Moxen or amazing 2cc artifacts like Jitte. He'd be a lot better in a powered 360 card cube I think. He was medicore to bad in our games. Most likely I'll be replacing him with Spikeshot Elder.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Cliffnotes:
* Sktherithingdfsiopjnix is unplayable because Infect is too much of a drawback and he has too much competition by better black finishers.
* The new Masticore might even be better than the original one and deserves a spot in every cube.
Bingo.
I think the new Masticore is the best Scars card for the cube.

edit. I really don't know how I can ever post again with this post count. too bad I joined the forums on September 3.

How bad is Memnite? A free 1/1 seems cool for aggro decks?

That's probably right. I just like the notion of dropping both the Memnite and the Isamaru on T1.
