I also want the rw and wb versions of the dual lands.
As for the semblance anvil I feel it is so much worse than worn powerstone, hell I would rather run palladium myr.
I like carnifex demon but black is too loaded at the top end.
it basically costs 7 or 8, so the question is do you need perma-infest stapled to a 6/6 flier for 4BBBB in your cube? like you said, there's pretty serious competition and i don't think he's even close.
maybe better than drana but it's a different kind of card. i don't think it's better than geth or clique.
I don't think it's nearly as good as Drana. Drana can both control a game and win incredibly quickly. This guy doesn't do either.
Hm, it's pretty ridiculous with an equpment. Just imagine it carrying a Loxodon Warhammer. 1RR: Deal 4, gain 4.
Even without equipment, it's alright. It can trade with 2/2s if you pay 3 mana... I think it's at least worth testing.
He doesn't seem too similar to Magus. At first glance I prefer Magus, in all honesty, but Spikeshot should be worth testing. Spikeshot is obviously sick with Anthems and Equipment like Noobhammer and Basilisk Collar (I swear I find new applications for that thing on a daily basis).
PS: Does anyone else find Spikeshot Elder's artwork more than a little disturbing?!

I think this card is a pretty nice upgrade to Magus, but I think I might run him in addition to him.
The first thing I thought when I saw the art is that this will be the first card I ever get altered so I won't have to look at this garbage.

This, most likely. Both are good cards.

For those of you considering Slice in Twain, how do you think Mystic Melting compares? I think it's probably better, being more splashable and in any case, if you're using it in an opponent's turn, it probably won't matter that you dra the card next turn.
I'm going to run Spikeshot Goblin and Magus of the Scroll.
Magus of the Scroll is awesome, I can't believe you guys are considering replacing him but w/e, maybe you've had different experiences / your cube is a good bit different.
magus has been good here, i dealt something like 8 damage with him the other day. by the time you're using him to deal damage your hand is usually down to one card, and keeping it that way isn't hard.
i'm not impressed with this guy (he deals less damage for the same price with more colored mana) but he's a damage dealing one drop in red so i'm open to being convinced otherwise. if i include him it will be next to the magus, who deals 2 damage whether or not i have an equipment out. i just hope that's not really his art in the set, or i might have to exclude it for that reason alone.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
The Elder requires other cards to be good, or large quantities of mana, and at that point I'd rather be playing Fanning the Flames. The ability seems way too expensive on way too inconsequential a body to be worth considering against something as stellar as Magus.
The only benefits I see to him is that he can sneak in under countermagic and would be amazing against a deck with nothing but X/1s in it.
I disagree, Elder is a great one-drop creature and quite possibly better than Magus of the Scroll. Of course I want as many one-drops as possible, so I try to keep Magus in as well.
Does it really matter whether he's better than Magus (not directed at the post above me, just to thoughts of him in general)? Most people agree that Magus is a solid creature, so then wouldn't the better question be, what can we do to red to make room for both? Here are my current red 1-drops:
In my case I think I'm either going to cut Goblin Welder or better yet, cut one of the less efficient burn spells (I'm looking at you, Sudden Shock). I personally think increasing the number of red drops is the way to go.

Sudden Shock could indeed be the right call here for many. I probably prefer Flame Slash to that - twice the damage for half the mana, even as a sorcery speed, swings it comfortably.

i think sudden shock is better but it's close. they're both on the edge of cubeability, and both worth dropping for another damage dealing one drop. even if it's hideous and clearly pooping.

Oh, but slow-rolling Sudden Shock is one of the most enjoyable things to do (shame damage no longer uses the stack)! People think they are getting back in the game, they are about to win...
Sudden Shock you?
(We cut it years ago, but it still rides my bench because it is so fun)
I have a favor to ask (don't worry, it's an easy one). I haven't been able to follow the thread recently as I've been distracted by the only thing that can trump the arrival of Halo Reach, cube cards mailed from the lonely cube cards thread and Scars spoilers... the arrival of a brand new baby boy!
So my favor is, while I'm not on here as much, I expect you guys to keep churning out these great evaluations and pages of discussion so I can get back up to speed quick once I get back and keep my cube in shape. Ok, so I know you'd do that anyway, I guess maybe its more of a thanks to everyone on here for all your feedback and testing rather than a request. Keep on cubing!
Now the next question is, how long before I can get him drafting....
Yep. We're very excited. Also, bonus points because when we came home from the hospital, Calibretto's package of a couple cube cards for the common/uncommon cube I'm building was in the mailbox.
Though babies come with a hefty upkeep cost:p I know as I have a 8th month old crawling around here:)
I do most of my forum reading and make most of my cube decisions while I'm up at weird hours feeding our 6 month old. I don't even remember what I did with all that time when our 2-year old was in the same stage of life.
